1. I've found that the velcro holds fine to the carpet. More than fine - so much so that the weight of the pedals can quite easily pull the carpet up from the board. I pulled the carpet off, used PVA glue to stick it back own, an once it had dried, used about 15 roofing nails to hold it down. Don't just nail round the edges though - a few in the middle will help I've had no problems since doing this. But not everyone can be arsed, I know.
2. I think I'm going to be doing one clean, and one with pedals. I actually did this recently with a Peavey Triple X for the dirty channel, and my god it sounded beautiful But some pedals will be before the split, and some after. Whammy would sound daft just running through one cab, for example. What I may yet do is try out some different preamps for the dirty channel too. Currently running an Ampeg SVP Pro, but I wouldn't mind something with just a little more filth.
3. Incase anyone is interested, I did a couple of dry runs with various cabs, and I think for me the best sound is with two full range signals, not split with a crossover. It isn't space effective, it isn't cheap, it isn't efficient. But damn, it sounds killer.
4. I have too much sustain anyway
5. Yeah, I'm kind of considering not letting it go D: Not really looking for trades though at all, sorry dude
6. EBS sold pending payment, Okko still available!
7. I'd love you to buy it as well
8. FWIW, we (Mae's Lost Empire) played with your band a while back at the Matrix in Grimsby, and I was using my 1212L there. I was barely pushing it. So if you remember that at all, then you'll know how much of a brute it can be. When it was working of ocurse - one of my patch leads kept cutting out If not, then never mind ;p
9. Hi all, Bought this around 6 months ago off the forum, and can\'t really afford to keep it around. I have other things I need more than this bass! I do already have another one after all Basically, the original sale thread describes this far better than I could, so I\'ll link to it. Hope you don\'t mind Guy! HERE I\'ve barely touched it since buying to be honest, so that advert should be considered up to date. Looking to cover what I paid for it, which is [s]£1200[/s] £1100. I\'m in Sheffield, and would prefer collection, but I will try to be as flexible as possible. Just be aware it costs money to put a bass in the post Any questions, feel free to ask Cheers, Chris EDIT: Cash only - No trades. I\'m not interested in other basses.
10. Nowt wrong with either of these, I've just decided I'm not a compression man. There's a thread about it in the effects forum, but it isn't all that interesting. Anyway, means I can pass some good quality compression on to you lot. Black Label EBS Multicomp - you all know what they do, and how highly they're thought of round these parts. Bought this a couple of days ago off the forum, so I'm just asking to cover what I spent on it - £85 posted Shame to let it go so quickly, but there's really no point in me keeping it around! Also have an Okko FX Coca Comp. http://www.stompbox.de/coca_english.html You can do some reading up about them through Google, and there's soundclips on that page. If anything, I prefer it to the EBS. I find it actually adds a little sparkle that the EBS doesn't. Very cool hand finished pedal really. Current exchange rate places it at near £150 from Okko. I'd like £110 posted for it. The EBS is in good condition. The Coca Comp is in perfect condition - it has lived on my pedalboard - completely unstomped - since I bought it. It has velcro on it, but that's a good thing, right? Can be removed on request. Both are boxed, no manual. The EBS manual can be found online, and the Okko doesn't have one! Photos can be arranged if you're interested, but not until I get to my practice room (a couple of days) for the Okko.
11. I don't find it even controls my dynamic range, so much as suppresses it. At the point you can really notice its on anyway. Otherwise all it does is just make me sound worse. Think I will be selling. Far more fun toys to buy.
12. Obviously, I'd also join the queue to be complimenting Mr Jon Shuker here. His J and P style basses are actually exceptional, if that's the kind of thing you go for aesthetically. He's more than happy to take that classic design and add your touch to it. The only changes he makes to them are all improvements as far as I'm concerned.
13. I do quite like the sound of that Animato, but not enough to spend £200 on it I don't think. As for masking the LED, are you wanting permanent or non-permanent? I'd say tipp-ex, but maybe masking tape would work better.
14. I've come to a conclusion that I really just don't like compression at all for live work. I've tried really hard to like it, and I bought a few compressors (ranging from supposedly bad to supposedly good) to get an idea from more than one pedal, and it just doesn't do it for me. Its either too subtle (regardless of what anyone else says to me, subtle effects don't work in a full band mix for loud noisy aggressive music), or full on too much squish. I don't have a particularly noisy chain, but it usually just serves to raise my noise floor up to more annoying levels too. Question is do I sell the compressors I have, or do I keep them for when they one day might be useful? :/ Am I the only person who has this point of view?
15. Huge, then? ;P
16. What would the width be if it was laid flat?
17. I do quite like this in an odd 'I shouldn't like this' kind of way. And I agree with you about the string spacing. 16mm at the bridge is what I go for However, is it intentional that you have black hardware except for the tuning pegs?
18. Well the idea originally stemmed from splitting the signal just with a splitter, and using two 1212Ls with a full range signal to each. One would be clean, and one dirty, just like you suggested Bigwan. I may yet do this. It just expanded slightly to a plan using a crossover instead of a splitter. I will probably experiment with both to be honest.
19. Hmm. The idea was to keep it compact and neat, so all to one 3u amp/rack, and two small cabs. So I'm not sure I really want to get into actually using a second head for it. This may require some thinking. As I don't really want to have to have a massive cab. When I say it needs to keep up with the Schroeder - I don't really push the Schroeder at all. So it needs to keep up with the Schroeder in relative terms, if that makes sense.
20. soundclick?
21. Wouldn't mind soundclips of the Animato if you're capable of doing them
22. Admirably. More than enough. If you're just wondering if 1 2x12 can cope with a full band, then you have no need to worry at all. Give it a decent powered head, and it'll be absolutely fine.
23. I don't really like doing these, as I usually find the best thing to do is just go and experiment! This one is kind of hard to just experiment with though. To explain: I currently have a big pedalboard and a power/pre setup, running both channels bridged into a Schroeder 1212L. This sounds pretty good. But when am I ever happy? ;p So I am going to run a crossover before my pedals, split the signal to highs and lows. Highs through my pedalboard, into my amp and 1212L, and lows bypassing the pedals and through an Aguilar Tonehammer to the same power amp, and into a second cab. That'll give me tone shaping for both channels, as well as independent volume control. But when it comes down to it, I'm not sure what cab to buy for the low end. I've been putting together little bits and pieces for the setup for a while now, and the next purchase is the cab. I love the sound of my Ampeg pre into the Schroeder, so that combination is definitely staying. Initially I was going to buy a second 1212L. I love the look of that kind of mini stack - it'd all match and be sexy, and the footprints would be the same (sadly, I'm very much about aesthetics as much as anything else - bear that in mind). But I know the 1212L isn't exactly a low end monster, from experience. And if all its going to be fed is sub 150Hz bass, then that isn't the best idea in the world. I looked at Alex's cabs, and they don't seem bad for what I want to do, but none of them run at 4 ohms, and while they seem like they'd shit low end for breakfast, I don't need all the crossover gubbins inside them. Also, I'm really put off by the fact that the footprints wouldn't match. Unless Alex does custom orders. Which I'm willing to be corrected on, but don't think he does. So any ideas? I'm looking at something compact (similar size/weight to the 1212L really), and also 4 ohms as I want to run it with my 4 ohm Schroeder using my power amp. Oh yeah - my power amp will put out 375W a side at that impedance - reckon that'll be enough? I'm used to the full 1200 through one cab, and never REALLY had to push it. I know watts aren't everything, but that does look like a biggish drop in volume on paper, to me. Just needs to be able to faithfully reproduce a tight and strong low end well, to give me a bit of full body behind the grinding top end I still don't think the 1212L would do a BAD job. But something else might do it better that has slipped under my radar!
24. Al's looks nicer.
25. The weight doesn't bother me TOO much. I'm still a whippersnapper. But mine won't be a one cab for small gigs/two for big'uns. I'm biamping into it, and want a cab for the low end. My poweramp will run at 375W per side at 4 ohms (as I already have a 4 ohm 1212L), which should be fine. But the Schroeder does a good low end, though it doesn't excel at it. So I'm kind of not sure where to go with it. Definitely don't want to lose the 1212L though. I'm in love with it.
