1. This one is probably my favourite out of all the ones I've seen:
 2.
Cool,Keep them coming folks anyone got newer than 97 then without a Dot? Do any asats have them? And what about the side of the neck? I really think the Classic Ray should of come without the dot but with the side marker just as a nod to the original but without copying totally.
2002 L2000 with no dot: Doesn't look like there's a side dot either.
 3. I'm really sorry to hear about that Mat, I hope it's nothing serious. From what I remember none of the frets had very little visible wear on them (just gone a bit shiny where the strings had been fretted) so if they had been compressed into the neck I'd imagine you would see marks from the string windings.
If the strings are roundwound with hex cores, then it's likely that the force has not only distorted the outer windings but crimped or kinked the core too. That would definitely prevent the strings from ringing true.
For reference the strings that were on the bass when I sold it were 50-110 Status Graphite hex-core roundwounds.
 4.
I do indulge in a bit of "bobbing" but he must have neckache by the end of the set?
I think at one point he was told to cut it back as he was doing some serious damage to his neck.
 5.
Hiya, I havn't recieved a pm from you. Dont know whether you sent it, but i would like the bass off ya. Cheers, Mat
Sorry Mat, should have sent one saying I'd text you. This is now sold pending pickup.
 6.
MB1. ...Silly Question?...Has This Gone?
Yeah, it has. I'll update the title.
 7. Got it included in the last bass I bought off ebay, don't have a use for it so someone else might as well benefit. Comes with three Philips screws. Free to anyone who'll cover postage (£2), or pick up in Milton Keynes. Looks like this:
 8. Got four PMs now, probably safe to say it's gone.
 9. As the title. Free to anyone who'll cover postage, or pick up from Milton Keynes.
 10.
A few weeks ago the story was that he had helped the Pastorius family get the bass back, now it seems he owns it but will sell it to them at the price he paid for it?
It does seem a bit strange, I wonder why it took a while for that fact to come out? Ok so it's still good that if the Pastorius family want the bass at any time they can get it but I don't see that much has changed here for them. If the guy who had it was willing to sell to Trujillo for a price then surely he'd sell to the family at the same price? As I see it, the only person benefitting here is Trujillo himself as he gets to own and play the bass.
 11. Up for sale is my 2002 (I believe) G&L L2000 with a Jazz-width one piece maple neck. Bought it about 5 years ago now but it's just not getting any playing time and I need the money at the minute. In very good condition as hopefully the photos will show. There are some small dents in the back of the neck between the 3rd and 4th frets where I believe the previous owner leant it up against something hard, and some flecks of white paint on the end of the headstock. The paint flecks will probably come off but I've never tried. Comes with the original hardcase which is also in good nick (I can take pictures of that if you want) and general documentation that I got with it - tags, certificate of authenticity, control layout diagram etc. As this is my first sale and no-one knows me I'd be happier if this was done face-to-face. I'm in Milton Keynes (near Jct 14 of the M1) and willing to meet people at motorway service stations etc. Looking for £550 ono. Sorry, no trades. Thanks for looking. Pictures here: http://s1022.photobucket.com/albums/af342/donutbass/L2000/
 12. One of the old-style USA Precision Deluxe models?
 13. I've got a Status MM replacement neck on a Jazz body with Nordstrand NJ4SE pickups - put together by a lad on Talkbass. I haven't got any pictures at the minute, but if you put "Status JazzRay" into Google images it should come up. Does that count?
so, so many of you talking about the 'status sound', i think i know what you mean, but look youtube and i couldn't find one video of someone who wasnt slapping the poor thing does nobody play statii fingerstyle?
I do. I can get a reasonably warm sound out of mine. I still get the hard low end, the clarity and the sustain but a lot less top end sparkle, which is pretty much perfect for me.
 14.
Taking it one step further, amputation of either arm would be my worst nightmare. Although, if it were the right arm then I suppose you might be able to hook up some sort of pick-holding prosthetic.
Who needs a pick when you can play like this?
 15. I think it's only GAK calling it a "Jaco Pastorius" bass - on the JHS page (http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintagebass.html) it's called an Icon VJ96. With a lot of references to Jaco but nothing explicit.
 16. Something like this would be nice: Except:

20 frets, not 21
Side-mounted jack
No volume knob, wired straight to the jack. No messing about.
In fact, I love that idea so much I might just have to save up and get myself one...
 17.
No, but if I ever buy another guitar it will be an 8 string, with 30"-27" fanned frets tuned F#BEADGBE or EAEADGBE (in the latter, the bottom E and A would be like the E an A on a normal bass).
Wouldn't fanned frets would be a nightmare on guitar if you want to play chords?
 18.
This place seems to be selling at £499 (if they have stock), more than £100 cheaper than every other online dealer http://www.musicwarehouse.co.uk/product.as...&image=prod
Damnit, you've just given me huge GAS for a sunburst one now!
 19.
I reckon it's down to what is the most comfortable to play (after the tone that is, but you'd expect them to be pretty much the same), the 51 being slab and the 54 being contoured. Both are nice though, I wonder what the sunburst would like with the black p/g?
Aren't they both the 51? I thought it came in both those colour schemes. Anyway, I'd get the sunburst and change the pg out for a black one.
 20.
My point? Don't you dare decry any professional musician until you've put thirty years' worth of hard practise into your own playing.
With that reasoning only politicians should be allowed to vote. My point? Everyone has an opinion, some are more informed than others but you should be allowed to form them yourselves. If you don't like something (think it's "lame") then I see nothing wrong with saying so. I didn't like the video, he is obviously talented and\or put a lot of hard work in (and I don't think anyone is disputing that), but it just sounded bad. I did quite like the facial expressions but that's probably because he looks a bit like someone I used to work with. I have no intention of emulating him because I'm happy being mediocre (or worse), I'm happy playing relatively simple lines that are part of a decent song that I would listen to if I didn't play an instrument. But that's just me.
 21.
Probably not enough room for the lever to swing, but you never know. What's the bass?
I don't own a 5-string at the moment, I was just wondering if anyone had successfully managed to do it and on which bass as that could influence my decision when I come to buy one. Looking at the back of a lot of bass headstocks there doesn't appear to be any room. Oh well. Thanks for your replies everyone.
 22.
Well, to be honest, i think you're being a bunch of knobs about this.
What he said. Bassists seem to love going on about how open-minded they are to new ideas and techniques. Don't see much evidence in this thread. Oh, and I love his tone.
