1. Would be nice for playing stuff in Drop D without the awkward fingering and different tone of a non-open string you'd get on a standard tuned 5-string. Or using it as a drone note while playing something higher up the neck. I know, you could tap it instead but it doesn't sound the same.
2. Has anyone tried fitting a D-Tuner to the 4th (E) string of a 5-string bass? Is there room?

G&L Tribute? I think they're slightly above your budget but you may have better luck in the used market. Could be lucky and get a decent bargain on a USA one.
4. I had an EST96NA (4-string active Stingray copy) which was rather nice. Probably shouldn't have sold it but at the time I preferred a smaller neck. It was well put together, the electronics weren't noisy as far as I can remember, and the sound was a pretty decent approximation of a Stingray.
5. You sound like the complete opposite to me. I've been playing bass for around 9 years now, I don't have a musical ear and very little talent but I get by on knowing a bit of theory, having a good memory and diverting attention towards my pedalboard and away from me. I've always had to partially rely on other, more musical band members to tell me if something sounds awful because at times I simply cannot tell. So as long as I don't need musical talent you don't need to know theory. It would probably help and I would much rather be in your position but it's not vital. IMO.
6. Just finished putting it together. Nothing's velcroed down yet or properly wired in with George L's as I'm after an EBS Octabass and an EH Bass MicroSynth to finish it off. Layout is: TU-2 -> MultiComp -> LS-2 (A+B Mix) -> BassDrive (18V) -> UniChorus Loop A: Bass Big Muff Loop B: PD-7

8. I'm sure I heard a fill at 1:34...
9. I'm not surprised - different brands of strings have different tensions, they might even be a different gauge from your old set (isn't the standard 45-65-85-105?). I tend to get my bass set up for one brand and gauge and just stick to that so I don't have to fiddle too much when changing strings. And the roughness is something you have to get used to with Rotosounds. I used to hate it, now I love the way they grip my fingers.
10.
Does anyone know if it's possiable to split your signal with one pedal then merge two signals together just before going into the amp input?
A Boss LS-2 will do that for you, there's an A+B Mix option for the two loops.
