  1. I have had Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage P alnico in my Precision parts bass before and even though I thought they sounded great, I thought i could find better. So I've tried multiple Fender, DiMarzio, Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan, Fralin etc etc pickups and I'm going back to the cheap KA. It has all the p-bass attributes you need. That's just my opinion and to my ears, but for the cheap price, why not give them a shot? You won't be disappointed. Just play with that tone knob and you'll find the sound you want. If not, tweak a little on your amp. 👍🏽
  2. 16 years later......is anyone still rocking the Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage P? I have a set ready to go back in my parts precision. I've tried all sorts of different pickup brands "Fender, DiMarzio, Nordstrand, Fralin, SD etc and I still rate the cheap KA Hot Vintage P alnico my favorite. With flats, running through my Genz Benz heads and Mesa 215 cab....I'm in sonic heaven 👌🏽
  3. If I lived in the UK, I'd definitely take the entire rig. Unfortunately I'm in New Zealand. I just purchased a Shuttlemax 9.2 from Bass Chat a month ago and always looking for a backup. If you ever change your mind, please let me know. Thanks.
  4. Hi. Would you consider selling the Shuttlemax 9.2 by itself?
  5. Yeah they were like the icing on the cake. Looks good and sounds even better. However, the Fender flats are good but I think I'm going to try the GHS Precision flats and if they don't float my boat, my fav Dunlop flats will go on. They always make a p-bass sing in my opinion.
  6. I always love the wenge necks. I'm not sure they make much difference at all in tone, definitely not noticeable once you're playing live. (Not that I do lol). The Warwick does have a real meaty tone. Especially with 2 x twin J pickups and a 3 way selector switch for each pickup. The tones I can get are great. Combined with my Streamliner 900 going through a Mesa 215 cab, I can get p-bassy, jazz bass, MM bass sounds quite comfortably. Love it!
  7. Earthing wires installed & a general service. A noticeable difference in my opinion. If you want it done to your 900, send it to Surrey Amps. They can do it for you.
  8. Good score Marty. I also am a Genz-Benz fan. I have the Streamliner 900 (upgraded via AgedHorse), Streamliner 600, Shuttle 9.2 (upgraded via AgedHorse), Shuttlemax 9.2 and have the 6.0 12T combo (that's also getting upgraded via AgedHorse). I'm thinking of selling the Shuttle 9.2 and possibly the Shuttle 6 and using the Streamliner 600 with the 12T. The Streamliner is the bees knees for me.
  9. My two dream basses are already in my possession. My custom 1994 Warwick Fortress Masterman and my parts p-bass. 80's Barts, Lollar harness with treble bleed and wenge jazz neck.
  10. A few years ago now, but do you remember how the Streamliner 900 went in comparison to the D800+ and D800?
  11. Hey Rob. In case it wasn't fixed, the following was a message from the main man behind the Genz-Benz heads for servicing in the UK: Contact Surrey Amps - https://surreyamps.co.uk Ask for Stan Lawrence, let him know that Andy Field suggested you contact him for this. He can email me directly, I can walk him through this issue. He's one of the best service engineers in Europe IME.
  12. Yeah, you're right 👍
  13. Did you get this sorted?
  14. @Stealth PM sent.
  15. Yeah that's true. It's like some people rate TI's and LaBella Flats and to me, those aren't in my top 5 flats. IMO/IME, I reckon it's how the strings mate to your pickup. I've tried the same string on several basses (p-bass and jazz) and they sound garbage. Then I put them on my Warwick and they sound perfect. So on my Warwick I have GHS Flats, my parts p-bass with MEC actives I have Dunlop Flats and my daughters p-bass with DiMarzio Relentless Middle pickups has the Fender 9050L strings. But yeah, definitely horses for courses 😊👍🏽
  16. I just tried the GHS Precision flats because I got some cheap. I normally use Dunlop and found the Fender 9050L flats are good too. I was pleasantly surprised with the GHS Flats. Very nice and they complement my active pickup on my Warwick bass. I think they'll be my go-to flatwounds for awhile.
  17. Love to hear updates once you try the regular tension..... It "might" sway me from my GHS Precision flats, but that will be a big ask 😉
  18. Yep a deep hole indeed. But that's another good thing you're doing, watching some of your favourite bass players and checking out what they use. I found though, all the bass players I like, I never gelled with the basses they use. They all use Precision and Jazz Basses and my go to and favourite is active Warwick basses. So yeah, definitely try out a few and see what sounds good to your ears and what feels good in your hands! 👍🏽
  19. Welcome Laura! 👍 I think Kiwi above got most of your questions covered. How's the bass playing going?
  20. Welcome @Cjay9 First bass guitar...............that's a tricky one. We all have our favourites & preferred brands etc. First recommendation I would say is, go to all your local music shops & try out what they have to offer. Then you should get an idea on what feels best for you & what sound you like. Let me know how you go! 😎👍
  21. Welcome Joel! 😎
  22. Welcome AJ!! 😎
  23. Welcome Hugh! As soon as I read your comment about your first bass, a Maton, I thought, he's from Aussie. Then I saw you are. Cheers mate!
  24. Did you end up selling it?
  25. If only I lived in South Shields or within a few hundred miles. Great cabs!
