1. *NOW SOLD* As the title says, an 8ohm Peavey Black Widow equipped 1x15 (BX?). Very well used, & once upon a time, very well respected. Been stored for a few years with no use. Photos show; bobbling to carpet, lightly rusted corners (relic? ) generally tatty but perfectly useable cab. £50 ono (any offers considered) Prefer collection, but would be more than happy to deliver in or around Kent, Sussex, Surrey, etc., for petrol money. John.
2. Welcome Loula +1 to what discreet said for a wide strap!! I use one of these; http://www.gak.co.uk/en/levys-m-4-gf-3.5-garment-leather-black/24587 works great even with my 13.5 lb Jazz. When even that gets too much, a Hohner B2A does the trick @ 4.4lbs!!! You'll find as much help and advice as you can handle from a great many very helpful, experienced people on this site. But, you may find it gets a bit addictive! especially the porn and for sale sections John x
3.
Of course, but i can't listen to Frank Zappa without hearing Webern and Varese but it doesn't make him a European classical composer. It just reflects his musical influences.
very true, 'cept maybe for when he's playing Ring Of Fire (back on topic )
4.
...or more Rock than Country?
maybe, but I can't listen to Creedence without hearing Buck Owens in spades! Love 'em both to pieces
5. A quick apology, it was me who started with a long list! It's only really in the last ten years or so that I even acknowledged C&W as, personally, a legitimate musical genre! Guess I've got a bit of a passion now....just the faintest hint of pedal steel makes me go all misty eyed (adopts Homer Simpson voice: mmm, Buddy Emmons...) Sorry. John x
6. +1 for Luxury Liner. Also feat.another great country bassist Emory Gordy Jr. John
7. I too avoided country music like the plague for far too long. My current favs, and therefore recommended, by me, would be; Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen The Byrds The Flying Burrito Brothers Hayes Carll Dwight Yoakham Buck Owens JJ Cale The Dillards Joe Maphis Townes Van Zandt Gram Parsons Emmylou Harris Asleep At The Wheel New Riders Of The Purple Sage The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Michael Nesmith Pure Praire League Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys Hank Williams Sr. Hank Williams Jr. Hank Williams III & don't write Dolly off too soon (like I did), give the album Jolene another go, sublime! as far as country bass players go, Norbert Putnam can do no wrong in my eyes John
8. well, hopefully it's still available......have PM'd OP but so far with no response?! Ben?? John.
9. i'd forgotten just how tasteful & tasteless Frank can be, often both at the same time! oh, and it's a Supernatural Series II http://bassaxe.blogspot.co.uk/2010/01/jay-dee-supernatural.html John
10. & for any Rush fans who don't know this site http://www.cygnus-x1.net/ I highly recommend it :-)
11. oh, and almost ashamed to say last time i saw them was in 1980.......god how i miss the Hammersmith Odeon :-(
12. Hi Hiram, we were sat in block 104 (but to save you looking for the seating plan) 'bout three quarters of the way back off to the left hand side (Alex's side) in the lower raised seats (so below the gods & boxes). Fantastic viewing spot for the whole show (gotta love them pyros:-), personally would have liked to have been closer, was offered £200 seats by a friend on the night, balked at paying that much.........kinda wished i had now, but all in a corker of an evening. Oh, and i'd agree with you on trying to sort a setlist with that size of back catalogue to choose from!!
13. Minor gripes here too........was it just me or was the sound really awful? couldn't hear Alex half the time, Neil was tooooo overblown in the bottom end, but Geddy still had the tone to die for :-) Must add, one of my companions was rather miffed at the setlist, too much mid-era. Personally I thought it was a good mixture of old & new, specially when the encores left me almost in tears of joy :-D
14. hmmm, well kissing the sky ain't so easy!! (unless he really did sing 'kiss this guy', in which case; easier but by far less pleasant!!)
15. you will get used to it after a while, but, one way to stop it 'leaning away' is to hoick your strap over the the rear horn, looks pants, but it worked for me (till i got used to it) +1 for a suede, or at least suede backed strap. bargain price too, nice one! John.
16. Hmmm, seems to me, you can pay £150 to go see The Beach Boys in the barn that is The Royal Albert Hall. I'd have said £65 to see two of the finest virtuosos of their respective instruments, at a cosy and IMHO acoustically superior venue like Ronnie Scotts, is a veritable bargain? But maybe that's just me? I say, nice one cjd. Have a great time! I'm sure you will. Afraid I'm going to be out of the country, otherwise I would have been there too :-( John :-)
17. Bought another(!) Hartke 4.5xl from Dan, (this is becoming a habit!) As always, a pleasure to do business with, and great to see him again after all these years :-) John.
18. Thanks again so much Dan, I feel 'complete' again! 7 years it is! Hopefully you'll be ready to part with the Kilo then, eh? ;-) John.
19. cheer's korerok, sorry you missed it :-( this will be the second 4.5 i've bought from The Dood! & Dan, the pleasure truly is all mine :-) john

21. Cheers Ed, I had a listen to you latest recording too! Very nice. Unlike most of the other comments, I liked the first 40 seconds very much....and the rest as well! Good to hear an english accent, and a damn fine voice too. Shame your taste in M/C's isn't as good though ;-) (mind you, life would be boring if we all liked the same things) John :-)
