Had many of them apart from the RS1/2 but I sold my GS1000 last year to fund bass purchases. I'm left with the SR325i and SR80i and I'm more than happy with them. Head-Fi wil give you lots of info.

Although I was never really a fan of Paul Chambers' bowed passages I still like the odd fours he trades when he's plucking. Now if it was Scott LaFaro, Charlie Haden or Henry Grimes I could listen all day long. It all depends upon the context for me too. Those live gigs at the Five Spot or VV you expect some soloing, the van Gelder or Koenig recording sessions of the '50s and '60s did become a bit formulaic (don't shoot me for saying that). A lot of recent (ie. last 30 years) ECM stuff has bass solo at length. SOme good, some out of place IMO.

I like the idea of putting an anodised gold one on mine...

Hi. Been listening to this on repeat for three days now and loving the tone this guy gets from his bass. I'm assuming he's playing a Jazz but was wondering if he has all three controls turned up playing near the bridge. Can anyone give me an idea how to get this sound. I've tried but it falls short! Either way, if you ain't heard it, do it soon.

I'm feeling out a local open-mic night tomorrow with a friend who's a sh*t hot guitarist; he also lacks confidence! If it looks do-able, i'll be there the following week to vomit all over the stage. I've recorded a few clips playing (from an ipod) and sound ok but find that all a bit depressing. Once i've got through one tune ok, it'll be easier. Interesting to see how many other on here are in a similar position. We all need to come out!

Just turned 40, but a very young 40.... bedroom bass player of just over 1 year but dying to get out there. Play along with iTunes as much as I can but know there's no substitute for doing it properly. Just need the confidence to brave a local open mic night. Like the simple but effective stuff. I I can get some way to emulating Colin Greenwood, that'll do for me.

As a one time sax player, i'd hear stories about player's tones. One claim was that, if you could section that tone, cut it in half and study its composition, some would have a an oval, or elliptical profile with a solid middle. Some would have grainy fillings, some would be hollow and so on... is this bollocks in the bass world? the P is thick, heavy on the fundamental, whereas the J has the ability to 'spread' it's tone.
