As i am looking for a Japanese JB matching headstock and binding (the JB65B and JB66B) i though that we could share our matching headstock basses. Yes you are right ikebe and Ishibashi shops are the places to find these beauties Yen/Euro/Pound is quite interesting these last months. Actually they are called JB65B or JB66B (for the limited 2013 pearloid blocks bass). They have matching headstock and binding on the neck. You can choose among white, black color and less spread Candy Apple Red and Silver. I wrote to BigJohn and Stacker who previously posted their picture in 2010. BigJohn has already answered me and we are in contact. I may create a topic about these Japanese basses. Any helping infos welcome

After some PMs (special thanks to Nigel), i post this to sum up. As a big fan of Fender History, i checked my "tons" of books, Gigabytes of pictures... The cool details are : - Thin frets (not period correct, but better for me. The early 1966 JB with binding and DOTS had 60's thin frets. When Fender decided to add blocks in late 66, frets became larger, 70's style. - slightly-creamy white matching headstock. - 60's style headstock logo (even if it is not exactly the right 60's copy) - Binding strip (even if the originals 1966 JBs had no varnish on it). I think a luthier can put off the tinted part and let the white binding be seen. - "Build quality is high. No gaping neck pockets or misaligned tuner bushings". To improve the bass, here on the forum, one can find cool picks (tortoise, mint white, white...) and all kind of pickups. One also would have to find lollipop tuners not too expensive Finally, the main subject is the neck which is "noticeably thicker than the early 60s and modern ones". I have to try one to make up my mind. What a good subject ! I often wonder why printed Tortoise pickguard exist. Cheaper ? No because they are too expensive for being ugly ! Only cellulo material gives the right color, vibe, harmony with the instrument. Upper there are beautiful examples. I also play it with black nylons. I think these strings suit this bass. Even with a fretted version (mine) the sound is both warn and precise. I like the mix between the magnetic and "piezo" pickups. After having put some lemon oil on the neck, fingerboard and rosewood bridge, the first cheap look has gone away. I also had the neck "fixed" : the bridge is high (strings too far from the fingerboard) so my luthier added a piece in the neck pocket. When i play this bass, there is often someone in the audience to ask "what is this instrument ?". I play in a gypsy Jazz 4tet and it is a interesting alternative instrument to my "huge" double Bass. Especialy in small clubs

I voted for black coat and a Tortoise pickguard. Dark as a black pick but more complexity in a tortoise But black with gold anodized pick is also splendid. Meshell plays a PJ black with a gold pick. She takes it at 2:40 but starts playing at 3:10. A bass "duo" with Pino Palladino. Even with 2 basses playing at the same time, it sound musical.
