I’ve got a new bass amp potentially incoming this week for a week’s trial pending purchase & there is ZERO info from anyone who has played one online. The beast in question is the Ashdown DP200H Head which will be replacing my SVT. I LOVE the SVT but I just don’t get to crank 300 valve watts to the sweet spot so want something slightly less powerful but still all valve. I’ve had several Ashdowns before and always liked the tone (the big bug bare was always that they just seem quiet compared to their ratings – maybe due to the vintage style voicing?). Anyway, there is really not much info around on the DP200 other than they brought out a B15 style flip-top combo featuring the head (flipping a 200w valve amp! – Ouch!). Do any of the Ashdown users/endorsers here have any experience with this amp at all? I’ll be looking to use it mainly with a flats loaded P or flats loaded Thunderbird through an Ashdown 4x10 4ohm sealed cab. Type of music is indie, mellow rock with the occasional punky effort thrown in. Playing small/medium size venues with no PA support, don’t mind a bit of valve breakup but don’t want to be getting full on distortion just trying to be heard.

Need some advises on a new P bass pup for my PB70. Im looking for a thick bassy sound, not too fussed about the usual Precision woody tone – something a bit more meaty but retaining the P punch. I play with flats but mainly use a pick and this can often result in thin/harsh/brittle top end. Ive read great things about the Wizard Thumper and wondering if a hot/overwound pup is the way to go or the Dimarzio DP122 which is also hot (not as much as the thumper from what ive read). Ive read about the dimarzio having a growly mid-range, higher output than ‘standard’ and a bit more bass - that would seem to go well with a Valve amp. I play through an SVT valve rig and sometimes find my current bass sound is a little thin/weak and maybe almost plasticy sounding particularly in the upper register. Others ive read about is the Fender Original (feel this is going to be maybe more traditional ‘woody’ P bass tone), the various Seymour Duncan QP’s (I believe the SP2 sounds like what im after from their range) and the Fender True ’58. Anyone recommend any of these or anything else that fits the fat, beefy, bassy with maybe a bit of high end roll and and bit of mid hump bill?

Original 1976 Fender Precision pickups. All original except the hook-up wire which was changed to wax-cloth wires during a service at PMT Manchester. I bought these to go in my PB70 to try and emulate my 1976 P bass but i am wanting something more modern sounding now for that bass. Would consider part ex for a black Dimarzio DP122. Collection from Bolton or can post recorded delivery for around £5.00 Pics to follow asap

I used to play one througfh a VS-112, your not going to get gigging volume from a 15w hybrid amp but it does sound nice. On the other hand i seem to be the only person on the planet who didnt like the CTM 100 and 300 i tried
-
Always have covers but I stay away from Roqsolid nowadays, very overpriced for what they are. Hot Covers seem better made (miles better padded protection, better outer materials) and usually quite a bit cheaper
-
Keep your class D's micro whatsits and emulators with a knob that says "valve" - this is the real deal, you just cant beat a real valve amp

Same here regarding heavy weight. I ditched my SVT and embarked on a mission to get that sound through lighter gear - Orange bass terror, TC RH450, Aguillar Tonehammer, Ashdown Spyder.....just didnt cut it. SVT is now back in full swing and im back happy again

Ive got an old Bullet coiled cable that needs some TLC. When used it just gives an earthy hum. One of the jacks looks slightly corroded but i can get to the soldered parts to check them. Anyone know anywhere in North West that does cable repairs? Normally id just buy a new one but this was about £45 and niwhere seems to do the mini version anymore
I consider every Class-D amp a compromise, simple give-and-take: you get the lightweight amp that does the job, but you give away some of the sound quality.
Pretty much where i am. I think the lightweight phase wont last, people will realise they just dont sound the same as the big old traditional amps
I assume the ecc83 is just a phase inverter then? A little naught of Ashdown considering that they are marketed on gear shops as being all valve. This is something Ashdown need to address, their retailers should be not listing it as all valve if it's not. It was one of the reasons why I brought it (an inexpensive way to play around with valve amps), although it's not the end of the world as I do like the sound and can't tell it's not all valve from the sound. Even the manual states the preamp is an ecc83 and yet if you look at internal pictures online you can see opamps in there.
Anyone ever pulled them to task on this? All their ad's state All Valve

The CTM 15 isnt all valve tho, its a solid state front end pushing a valve power section. As a side note, id still love to try the Ashdown DP200H

As per my other post regarding 4x10 cabs im currently having a bit of fun with a Bugera 1960 (technically a guitar head, a clone of some old Marshall 100w). It seems a great amp so far and is handling the bass well. Obviously the circuit is designed for guitar so my usual EQ settings don’t quite sound right (as much as setting EQ with your eyes can haha). Usually I have:- Bass - 12 o'clock Mids - 2 o'clock Treble - 11 o'clock This is with a P bass, flatwounds and 2x12 Ashdown cab. Im finding that on some runs the upper regsiters (anything above 5th fret on D string and most of G string) get a little lost in the mix. Im considering sacrificing some of the mid for a little more treble and maybe boosting the bass to beef it all up a bit:- Bass - 2 o'clock Mids - 11 or 12 o'clock Treble 1 o'clock Im looking for a nice pillowy thump of a tone, lots of beef and girth but no picky treble or twang (think Fratellis - We Need Medicine LP). You think this would help? I play with a plectrum, using a 1976 P bass and La Bella 760FS flats. Any EQ help always greatly appreciated

Ive recently been rocking my Bugera 1960 valve amp at practise where the SVT is just too much, great sound and a real nice amp so far. However, the amp is very wide - 79cm or there abouts. Its fits perfectly on my Ashdown VS212 when it is set horizontally but id really like a 4x10 to go with it. I know its only aesthetics but im not keen on the whole 'T' look (where the amp over hangs the cab either side) but am really struggling to find a 4x10 wide enough. Anyone got any suggestions at all? Needs to be around 300w, 4ohm or 8ohm. Cheers
Never took up with this new-fangled lightweight malarkey. Walkabout Scout is as light as I want to go.
This. Im defo a valve guy but have tried the Orange Bass Terror (really liked it), TC RH450 (awful), Aguillar TH 500 (ok). None of them copped the valve tone and feel despite claims to the conterary (the TC valvetone thingy sounded less valve like than my Ashdown Spyder!) For me i just NEED a big 'F off' valve amp
