  1. GR Bass have just announced a 21.5kg 8x10 🤯 https://www.grbass.com/portfolio/at-810/ Seems the Italian brands are trying to outdo each other 😜
  2. Two gigs this weekend. Gig 1 - Lingfield Park for a school for epileptic kids. I was depping in the band and always enjoy their gigs because the singer messes around with the songs and structures so it keeps us on our toes 🤓 Gig 2 - tiny function room in a pub for a mate’s wife’s 60th. Completely makeshift band who’d never actually played together as a 5 piece before that evening. Drummer didn’t seem to have done a huge amount of homework (“What’s that song?”) but we had a giggle and on the whole scraped through without anything horrendous happening. Nice to be back to a level of normality with these things. A quiet august will be followed by a pretty busy September I think so that’s nice.
  3. This has the impedance switch so you could make this one 12 ohm. 12 and 4 make a slightly weird 3 ohm load if my maths is correct after a few beers… Can your amp do 2.67 ohms?
  4. Get Newtone to custom wind a set for you. They’re ace. https://newtonestrings.com
  5. Last night at Lingfield Racecourse. Same tonight in a tiny pub? Hmm.
  6. Mike from Zoot has his own moulding tools for carbon necks - he set it up about 2 years ago. But he is very much a small volume builder, not wanting to detract from his quality by subbing out any of the work. Plus he has a helluva waiting list at the moment. So whilst definitely an option (I'd love a Zoot carbon-necked bass when I can!) it's not on the same scale of manufacturing as Status were... As for the Status news itself, it's sad but perhaps not a massive surprise. I used own 4 Status basses back in the day, before I discovered shorter scales...:
  7. Mind you, a black cloth grille without the piping might be a close enough approximation from a distance?
  8. Can’t change between steel and cloth sadly, as they are mounted differently apparently
  9. Yep. Seems a sensible design feature but I know a lot of people complain it’s too loud 😅
  10. Can’t afford it after being a bit rash and buying a lovely ACG a couple of weeks ago. Nor can I really justify it… It’s a steal for whoever gets it PM me deets of the Kent trip, will see if I can come along and support you guys!
  11. Oh man. I’d love a second one.
  12. Haha, I had a very similar thought. My original request to Martin was a simple small footprint 100W valve head with 3 band EQ. That was it. Was content to let the finer aspects be left to the man designing and building. I do like some of the ideas floating around here and very much appreciate Martin’s input and ideas here. I’m confident we’ll end up with a pretty fine little amp but there will be a fair few people saying either “I wanted this” or “I wouldn’t have done that”. We can’t please everyone.
  13. On the basis of them being potentially unreliable and difficult to get hold of, I’d say not..
  14. Used mine with my Barefaced One10 last night for a rehearsal. “Bloody marvellous” springs to mind.
  15. All that being said, if we’re trying to keep the footprint small, having so many speaker outs doesn’t quite sit on the same brief for me 😅
  16. Valve amps don’t do min load like solid state amps, they prefer lower rather than higher impedances. I’d avoid the word “min” basically. 🤓 For me the 4 ohm tap would have two parallel jack/speakons, with a box saying “1x4 ohm or 2x 8 ohm” and the 8 ohm likewise but “1x 8 ohm or 2x 16 ohm” 🙂
  17. I can’t see there being an issue with providing two, but it needs to be idiot proof ideally. And that’s where the idea may fall down for the general population
  18. Thanks Martin! Bang on for me 😎 Personally I don’t use s/r or pre-amp outs but I may be in the minority 🙂
  19. Yep, this ☝🏻 Also consider two 8 ohm cabs actually present a 4 ohm load (when conventionally wired in parallel) so you need to use the 4 ohm tap from the output transformer, not two 8 ohm taps…
  20. Cool. Fender tonestack is out then. Can totally understand why
  21. Not in my original idea no but I think this has some way to run before we nail a firm spec for all of it!
  22. Hadn’t specified that far yet but I am partial to that particular set up
  23. Definitely dials - my original suggestion to Martin was a simple 3 band BMT EQ
  24. I agree @stewblack - I happily gigged a 100W Ashdown valve head many times, hence that’s where I’ve aimed my desires on this one. For me it hits the right balance between power, size, ability to drive the power amp etc.
