1. Cheers Alan, thanks for the light cab, my back and shoulders will be eternally grateful. Drop in for a cuppa if you're over this way, you're always welcome Thanks again Alan Tom
2. Picked up a Berg AE112 from Alan. He was kind enough to let me play some of his bass collection to help me test the cab - some damn fine basses you have there sir Great to have a chat as well Alan, hope the day went well. As others have said here, i'd have no hesitation recommending Alan - good communications and easy to deal with Cheers Tom
3.
OK here's the thing - the best way to build stamina is actually to play some long sustained notes on the bass - and rather than just banging away through fast, relentless songs, why not just play some simple scales or melodic patterns, slowly, in time and a few minutes at a time? This way you'll be not only building the muscles in your hands/arms you'll also be improving your coordination, timing and by holding the notes longer your tone as well. It's also worth looking at your bass's set up and making sure you're not fighting the instrument - if the action is too high, strings too heavy etc - you could be wearing yourself out just be fighting the physicality of the bass - get some medium weight strings and your bass set up properly - by a pro if possible - and playing should be a lot easier. Stamina/endurance also comes from playing a lot but can be helped hugely by working on your basic technique - it'll also help avoid any serious injuries bad posture and or hand position may inflict over time. Hope that helps M
Good post
4. Tape some dynamite underneath the drummer's stool and connect it in circuit to a decibel meter with a set limit to make contact. Stand well back !
5. BTW - if you're stepping up the amp power, it may be a good idea to invest in some ear protection ASAP ! There's a good thread about ear plugs /defenders pinned on BC
6. In a previous band - Ballroom Blitz My preferance of the moment - Can't Explain, the Who
7. Oh my....... That is utterly adorable Pm'd in the desperate distant possibiity I'll find a way of affording it
8.
For a backup, get a power amp and a pre amp like a THammer. That way, you have to power amp to serve a P.A failure as well, unless you run actives. and a DI for the bass ...
That is a really good idea
9. If you love it, why not get a jazz and have two basses ?
10. I don't know the answer to your question Paul, but I'd really like to hear some feedback about the sound if the plan comes together Hope the gig goes well
11.
I was going say they were made in Italy, but I expect you've figured that out already. I saw a review of one in Bassist Magazine which IIRC would've been the late 1990s but it's too long ago to remember any details. Not much help then
Even that's more than I knew, thank you. It's a place to start ! Cheers DT There's a wee issue with doing piccys at the moment. Hopefully, it'll get solved sooner rather than later.
12. Hi all Anyone heard of Kempton bass amps ? I have a Kempton Bassbooster BB200 and would like to find out more about them. Google searches just bring back very few results, all in Italian. Anyone know anything about them ? Thanks in advance all
13. Apologies for the slight comedy moment OP, not intended to be unhelpful there. The clip posted by stingrayPete1977 did appear to give some useful info about the input stages. The presenter seems indicate that a clean sound can be obtained by keeping the control on the far left at low levels, while turning up the other volume controls. If you don't find this with your amp, it may need inspection ? I havn't used a shuttle myself, but the clip does seem to be clear on that info. BC is usually a helpful friendly place. Perhaps other Shuttle owners will be along soon. All the best in solving this one
14. He's the one that's still in the matrix (oops - derail)
15.
Yep been using one for a few years now and thats where I am with various basses from Jazz, P and Musicman. Start with everything pointing up and maybe back off the input gain and boost the input volume (the preamp pair on the left) if its not as smooth as your after, it should sweep from smooth to pretty filthy just using those two knobs. Also should be fine keeping up with that LH500 Ed's clips are always worth a watch in this respect too
The name is NEO !!!! (so who's Mr Anderson ?)
16. Rikki don't lose that number Dreamer Rosanna Sylvia Moonage Daydream Drive in Saturday
17. Spare leads and a DI box, plus other bits n' bobs as mentioned above. Always carry painkillers as well (loud guitars !)
18. This should have gone ages ago. Great basses these
19. Hello, hello, it's good to be back it's good to be back (no connection !) Suspect a lot of bass practice happened yesterday....
20. Worries about reduced road tax from fuel efficient cars ? then apply road tax to fuel efficient cars. It's not hard, it's straighforward and honest. It's also the way to go to garner any public support for further tax proposals.
21.
Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I just can't see anything about this that I don't like.
I have one of these and it's as close to 'that jazz' as I've ever found. I had issues to begin with about the whole road worn thing, would ponder how to tidy it up etc (I still may one day), but I play my RW Jazz and RW Precisions because they're just great instruments to play. They really are that good (for me at least). When I put them down after playing them for a gig, the whole relicing controversy doesn't seem to matter that much at all. In fact, I'm going to play it right now
22. Just a thought. Is it possible that certain areas of the church develop natural loud sound pockets ? lots of potential reflective surfaces ? If it's possible, it may be worth finding out where said person sat and spending a little time there while someone else plays your bass with the band playing too. Once you've heard what he did, you'll then be in an informed position about his comments. Also bearing in mind that there won't be so many people around if you try that exercise (unless it's another worship day).
23. Sounds like your sound engineer is not really considering the role of the bass or other low frequency generators here. If the engineer wants to use FOH subs like that, it would be to the band's advantage to have monitor foldback onstage for all the instruments that generate low frequencies, bass and drums included. Otherwise there will be competition for low frequency space, with all the problems that competition generates. Just my 2p.
