1.
A personal favourite of mine is the concept of a "custom made" bass built from a coffee table offcut, a reclaimed neck with "Encore" rubbed off of it and hardware fixed using assorted woodscrews leftover from an Ikea session is going to be "far better than all of the Wal's, Overwaters and Jaydee's that I've owned as a professional musician".
When did you see my bass then?!!
 2.
Why would anyone publicly admit to having kept this monstruosity for 20 years?
I love the pick up routing, I mean you just would not want to cover that with a pickguard (even if you could get one the right shape). I also like the machine heads, set at different angles because they're closer to the edge of the headstock on one side than they are on the other - design brilliance & well ahead of it's time. Strange thing is there's something about it I like.............................. oh dear I think I might need help - repeat after me I must buy a Fender Jazz, I must buy a Fender Jazz...........
 3. Aria Pro ii XRB - pointy headstocky!! I think this may be from the late 80's? With a case too. Seems quite a bargain. 5.
That's because it's the P Bass special model so it would have had the Jazz neck also. Unfortunately it's no longer for sale. There's another one here starting at £99: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Sta...=item335f23f35f
Looking at again though - I see what you mean, it does look a little odd. The bottom control knob looks out of position compared to the one in the other auction & there looks to be an extra screw in the scratchplate so not sure now!

Not much info in the auction description so you can't really tell what condition it's in but the standard series usually fetch between £80 & £120 on eBay. If I could collect I'd go for it. If you buy it let us know what it's like.
 8.
I have a parallel thread running on the Westone forums. It's been pointed out that the Thunder IA bass being sold for £350 was recently bought for £230. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Westone-Thunder-1-Ba...=item19bd905f8f There seem to have been a few Jedson basses and guitars on ebay recently. I haven't heard good things about the Jedson brand though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-JEDSON-TELE-...=item335f1d6d02
I started playing on the guitar version of this - bloody awful!! Very high action, you couldn't set the intonation & the bridge height adjustment screws were just in the right position to cut your hand to shreds... & they did!! Horrible things - it's a wonder I carried on playing.
 9. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-Bass-Cop...=item1e5d1acd27 "This auction is for a gorgeous Black Jazz Bass guitar i got my hands on. Beautiful guitar! Fantastic for any type of music. It has a Jazz Bass style maple bolt on neck with a chrome neck mounts and is really nice, the action, playability, look, the lot ! It also has a Fender style shaped headstock for that classic look." "This guitar has been labeled with a fender decal so it looks the part." It sure does(n't!) - Just why would you bother doing that? If you're going to rip something off at least do the research.
 10.
Stick some pics up & let's try & ID it. J.
I'm just about to go on holiday for a few days but I'll try to get some pics up on this thread when I come back. The logo had been removed when I bought it but I was in a recording studio a few years ago & the owner had two identical basses (one fretted & one de-fretted) - they were badged Columbus. I've tried rubbing a pencil lightly over some thin paper on top of the logo but the impression it left wasn't clear enough.
 11.
I hope this just is a case of genuine ignorance on the part of the seller! Anyway it's a low-end Jap jazz copy. This probably had a tin "Avon" badge nailed to it once. Under the black rattlecan paintjob it will have a 3-colour burst, and under that there will be genuine vintage plywood. This is typical of early/mid 70s MIJ cheapos - it would have had chrome ashtrays originally, so for pups they just used whatever was lying around, in this case chrome single-coils intended for Telecaster copies. These pups do actually sound OK though. In Telecasters. Here's one of these that I picked up a couple of years ago, for about £30: Jon.
I was 99% certain that was the case. I've got a similar Jap one in pieces in my garage at the moment awaiting refurb. It's got Jazz style pickups though & the tuners are not the elephant ear ones. I've had it since around 1980 & I think it must be early 70's. I'm glad that someone has contacted the seller so that they have the chance to amend the listing (hopefully they will).
 12. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-Bass-Gui...=item20b1ade1f0 erm..... no I don't think so unless anyone here knows different - I'm not a Fender expert?
 13.
Cheap mudbuckery Tele japes: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Guitar-Fender-S...n-/170503924985 Jon.
Yeah there's something really fishy about that. I was the highest bidder at £115.39 up until someone bid £118 for it, there was then a winning bid of £120. The bass was suddenly relisted later on with the BIN at £100 & the person who won it at £120 then won it at the BIN price. Dodgy!
 14.
This was me - woop woop! Didn't realise there was a BC thread going about it, as soon as I saw the listing on ebay I pulled the virtual trigger, didn't think twice. We'll have to see if it's any good or not, but unfortunately not for a bit as I live in Edinburgh - got family down there though who'll hold onto it for me. I also bought a rather funky looking black mexi classic 70s that was listed, thought it'd be cool to compare the sounds of different pickup positions. And now I have to sell things or I shall face ruin, sigh...
That's great news - good for you. It just shows though that if you are going to sell on Ebay, research how much previous auctions have reached for the item you're selling, take the time to write a good clear description & add good quality pics - this bass would have fetched more money for the seller had they just taken the time to do it properly. I hope it's a good one for you!

 16.
I haven't. It's one of the reasons I usually use snipe-it. That way no one can bid you up and you will never go over your original value. I usually will put the snipe-it on near the last day and I have walked away from a few collection only listings. Mainly because I reckoned if it did go cheap then the buyer would likely back out. I keep the items in my watch list mind and quite a few have come back on with a decent minimum bid or reserve set 2nd time round. I've even seen a few re-listed on a different account in the same location and the same pics and the same 'this is my favourite bass selling it but keeping the other 2 dozen etc etc' bull. I reckon they should show locations of bidders that way it would be more obvious if it was or wasn't dodgy bidding. Like if someone with a low feedback keeps bidding up an auction and the location is the same as the sellers then there's more of a chance its dodgy compared to a bidder doing it from 100 miles away.
It was better when they used to show bidders ID's because you could then check out their feedback. Now you only see the feedback score they have, you don't know how much that has been reduced by negative feedback. For instance h**c's feedback score is 26 yet the positive feedback is showing as 0% - why?
 17. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rare-Original-1970s-...=item53e165f2f9 I haven't seen one of these for years!! I began to think I had imagined them. I believe Geddy Lee used to play a white one during the 70's.
 18.
And anyway - it's not pedant, it's pedant.
Isn't that somefing you ware rownd yore nek?
 19. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1962-FENDER-PRECISIO...=item45f2f9889b If this is genuine (& on the face of it there's no reason to doubt it is) it looks to be a good buy for the future. Nice authenticated history to it, although I would have thought for that amount of money you would want to try to put some clearer pics up because the main pic makes the finish look a bit too shiney shiney for such a used instrument.
 20.
give it too the drummer, may be of some use to him
Nah - you know they can't tell the time!!
 21.
Ah go on, buy it If i could get my hands on it i would be grabbing it, but i am about to buy a Aria ZZB off of another BC'r.
DONT!! - I don't need any encouragement. It would be the best of both worlds for me because I prefer the smaller width Jazz neck but I like the sound of a Precision. I would have to sell one or two of my others to be able to buy it & I think it will be gone before I manage to do that.
 22. This seems to be a bargain for the price. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT The last two I could find in completed listings on Ebay sold for £136 & £140 repectively. I was sorely tempted but I've got no money so I'm hoping that one of you will buy it before I do!! (PLEASE - I can't afford to buy anything else)
 23.
Well, if you insist: Just flung it together this evening, no strings, not wired it up yet - but I'm quite pleased with this, so far. Hope it doesn't play like a pig! Anyway - back to Rickenbuggery! J.
Wow! That's a fantastic job! How did you get the chromeware to come up as good as that? I seem to remember that Columbus did a copy of these too.
