  1. That's a lovely colour. Almost Pelham Blue. Or is it, in fact, genuinely Pelham Blue?
  2. I be interested in reading that. Can you remember where you saw it?
  3. I dunno about that. The first album and 'Paranoid' are widely regarded as being a benchmark examples of a four piece rock band captured live in the studio. Both have a great, dry, in-your-face- quality that really helps the power of the band cut through. The next three have got some muddy moments I'll agree with you there (however many people will argue that 'Master Of Reality's sludgy sound is what they like about it) but it doesn't detract from their appeal.
  4. Apologies for dragging this thread up from a few months ago but I noticed from watching the California Jam footage today that 'Children Of The Grave' is played with a pick, which I was surprised about. The only bit of Sabbath I thought he used a pick on was the outro of 'Iron Man'. So, I did some more trawling through Sabbs footage and saw that he played 'Neon Knights' with a pick too, in the footage from New York in 1980. That took me by surprise too, as he definitely played it with fingers later (see the Wacken 2009 clip of Heaven And Hell live). Anyone aware of any more Geezer pick moments?
  5. Have you just made all that up?
  6. The recent 'Space Ritual' reissue is definitely a new mix from original multitracks. It is totally different from the original, not just a slightly tweaked version of it. Whether it is better would be a wonderful discussion. I'm in two minds about it. To answer the OP's question though, at least in the case of 'Space Ritual' the target market is exactly me- been listening to it for 40 years, now 60 years old and more then excited about a new version, enough to want both the CD version and the £100 box set.
  7. No. But they are a great source of ideas.
  8. I've had a couple of record and publishing deals and have never officially filed any lyrics at any point. Have never been asked to either. This was pre-digital though so maybe, with the existence of the internet, that's changed in the recent past.
  9. As if to prove the point, went to a record fair yesterday and found this...
  10. I remember the term Shoegaze first being used back in the early 1990s. It was originally coined as a term of derision, by Sounds Magazine journalist (who later became head of Food Records, home to Blur, Jesus Jones etc) Andy Ross. Having been shackled with the term myself for a long period, back in the days when I was musically active, I derive great amusement from the fact that it is now a genuinely respected and admired musical genre. Its frequently used a reference point in musicians wanted ads and you can wander into any record shop, anywhere in the world and find it in use in the racks as a genre definition too. Not bad for a term of abuse.
  11. According to my diary notifications, it seems it was one year ago today that I started the search for my old Rickenbacker 4001, serial number PL7996, which I was daft enough to let out of my sight for a while back in the 1990s and as a result ended up being sold without my permission. Still no sign of it popping up yet, despite numerous appeals on forums and various socials and alerts set on all the usual selling sites. There have been a few near misses- PL7986, PL7998 and PL8021 have all turned up online but I’m still no nearing tracing the real thing. I have found a few more pics though, mostly from a gig at the Manchester Boardwalk in October 1991, which nicely show it as it was after my modifications (black scratchplate added and Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge position). I have no idea, obviously, if it still looks like this, wherever it is now. I’m still searching though and not giving up…
  12. Played all of those, although The Marquee was the second version unfortunately, in Charing Cross Road. Someone mentioned 1st Avenue, played there too, and the Whisky A Go Go.
  13. Popular in Austria, by the looks of it...
  14. I will check that out. Thank you.
  15. It certainly is, thank you. Much appreciated. I didn't want to go hassling the seller for dims etc if it was generally accepted to be a 'fat neck' period. I'd rather just carry on looking if that was the case as I'd be wasting his time. In light of your measurements, I think I'll follow it up.
  16. Does anyone here have an '81 4001? If so, how's the neck profile? I can't deal with a chunky neck. I have a 1980 that I like a lot and used to have a '76 that was skinnier. I'm looking at a '81 online that I fancy but am nervous about the profile around that time. My '80 is 23.2mm/0.92inches at the 2nd fret. Same at the 5th and 23.6mm/0.93inches at the 12th. So barely any taper at all. I will be happy if this '81 is the same or very close. Does anyone have a '81 and a caliper they could use get any specs please? I understand that individual instruments may vary slightly, so I'm looking at general trends for the year. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help. NOTE- I originally posted this appeal in the wrong section. Mods, please delete the previous post in the 'Rickenbacker Porn' thread.
  17. I had a mint, still in the box with manual, Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal that I bought for 68 Euros. Then John Meyer started using one and the value went through the roof. Sold it just before they announced the reissues for £650.
  18. Just missed out on this 1977 Jetglo 4001. Can't get to check it out until Friday but it unfortunately sold yesterday afternoon. Pretty gutted. Look at all that lovely wear...
  19. Possibly not. But then also possibly. Its a misconception that just because any given piece of gear will usually work flawlessly from day to day, that its not going malfunction if the circumstances conspire. I've been touring internationally for 30+ years and have seen (and heard) a lot of weird stuff.
  20. I think you misunderstand the meaning of isolated. Many multi power supplies, like the MXR Brick, have multiple outlets but they are not isolated from each other. This can cause noise problems in certain circumstances. MXR makes the Iso Brick, a better version of the Brick, to avoid this potential problem and many other manufacturers have products which do the same i.e Voodoo Lab, Coiks etc. Many of these are available with more than 9 outputs. It is also worth adding up the current consumption of all those pedals and checking that you are not exceeding the rating of the PSU. That can cause noise.
  21. I'm also not a fan of these metal framed pedal boards. Its easy to set up earth loops via the pedal chassis and frame. I'd recommend covering the whole of the front of the frame with velcro in order to isolate the pedals from the frame i.e so none of the outside of the pedals (or the jack plugs) are touching the bare metal of the board.
  22. I think I see your problem there- that daisy chain power cable. You should be running all these pedals off a dedicated power supply with fully isolated outputs. Also- what is that PSU rated at?
  23. OK. Give us your exact signal chain.
  24. A first step would be to try to clarify the terminology. Are you sure you mean buzz and not hum? Many people use these two words interchangeably but they are not the same thing. Hum would be indicative of an earthing problem and the causes of it (and the solutions to solve it) are many and varied. Buzz, however, is usually inducted noise from another source and must be dealt with differently. So firstly, was the noise a constant tone that didn't change with the position of your gear or your orientation i.e which direction you faced? Did the noise go away if you touched your strings or another part of your gear (amp chassis, jack plug casing etc) When you moved around or changed direction did the volume or tone of the noise change?
