  1. My bastardised Charvel I call Yiggy or The Thing. My stock Precision is just The Fender. I’ve got a love/hate relationship with the Charvel - it’s complicated 😁 The P bass is just a stock P bass. I may grow to love it though.
  2. There must be quite a lot of used sets floating about from people buying them and deciding against them.
  3. Hmmm, it definitely makes sense to have more headroom rather than not enough. I’ll have another look. I noticed a used Hartke amp the other day - 350w per channel. I might have another look at that. There are plenty of people saying the Trace Elf was plenty loud enough, but I guess everything is subjective. I don’t wanna be buying and re-buying.
  4. I was getting that on the whole thread yesterday - it seems back to normal now.
  5. Who knows. Possibly just wants recognition/exposure.
  6. He’s called Treeman. He looks like some kind of Daniel Johnson type. I think in the video he’s trying to play one of his own songs. There are some more videos of him being interviewed or answering questions (possibly written and asked by himself!). I can’t tell if it’s all serious or some kind of Spinal Tap fosters take. If anyone has ever seen something called American Movie, he seems like that. Some genuinely odd guy who’s movie gold. P**s = Fosters 😂😂😂
  7. Yeah, I did wonder about the 8s. I’ve never used them before…but actually, no drummer at this stage. The beats are electronic. Which is something else I’m gonna have to think about amplification for. The last time I played live was with a drummer (every time actually).
  8. I’m looking for an amp/cab or combo that’ll do smallish gigs and a decent sized practice room - a one size fits all type of solution. Also something that I can also use at home at lowish volumes. I’ve been looking at the Trace Elf 200w head and the 2x8 cab. Has anybody got any experience with this particular setup or can suggest any alternatives? The more portable the better. I’m trying to narrow things down and not spend an eternity looking stuff up!
  9. Just had a noodle around. I don’t generally write tab out but It’s something like this in the A major key: VERSE E A - 2 2 0 0 4 2 020 D. 2 0 G CHORUS E A - 4 4 4 4 4 4 0 2 2 2 222 D- 2 0 G I’m on my phone trying to be quiet so can’t hear it all that clearly. It’s not continuous throughout the song - he kind of plays a bar misses a bar - so you’ll have to keep listening and figure it out. Tragic roundabout.m4a Tragic 2.m4a
  10. I grounded/shielded when I took out the preamp. I also swapped out all the pots and wiring and replaced it with DiMarzios. I don’t know about the preamp. It’s not at the top of my shopping list tbh, I need a new amp.
  11. To be honest, the Charvel has grown on me since taking the preamp out quite a bit. It took a while getting grips with the DiMarzios alone, which I’d never had before, nevermind the mental preamp as well. I just couldn’t seem to get a decent sound I liked. I was experimenting with different strings and stuff as well and ended up getting a bit lost with it all. Once I’d stripped out the preamp, put some familiar strings on and set my amp to flat I started getting somewhere.
  12. The neck swap isn’t/wasn’t necessarily permanent. I was just curious how it would sound matched against the Charvel neck. It definitely sounds different/better to some degree at least to me with the Fender neck. If I had money to burn I would probably change the neck permanently just to have the same feel on both my basses. The nut width isn’t an issue though really; I have always played jazz and P basses so either is ok and both have their pros and cons (I like the overall slimmer jazz necks, but they always feel cramped at the headstock end. The Player Precision necks also aren’t the widest or fattest either compared to some other P-bass models. Same with the preamp, not a massive issue. I prefer passive basses, but a preamp isn’t a deal maker or breaker. The rest of the specs looked good. I really didn’t like the Charvel preamp though and felt like it let the bass down. ‘Volatile’ would be a good way to describe it. I also tried it with a standard Fender Bridge, but it resulted in some crazy neck dive that the Charvel one evens out more or less.
  13. If it’s stock, start with everything flat on the amp, tone on the bass set at full (for me with flatwounds anyway). Then just nudge the bass on the amp if you think it needs it. Treble control is probably just personal preference.
  14. I have no faith in buying stuff from Amazon really these days other than the most meaningless household tat. There’s so much weird junk and things of questionable origin. As above I stick to the music shops, online or otherwise.
  15. Pretty nice I would imagine 👍
  16. I would’ve had that, Bought the same model in tidepool blue though a few weeks back. Really nice basses, much nicer than the old MiM models.
  17. Buy what you want I suppose. Everybody’s circumstances are different, if you can afford it and justify the expense - why not? Personally, I’ve got about £2500 worth of gear currently and that includes everything. I’ve got better things to spend my limited money on if and when I have got it spare and as long as something is nice to play and I get the sound I’m after, then I’m happy. I also sometimes just don’t understand what makes some of the super expensive gear worth the £££ anyway. The stuff I have gets used every day so it certainly seems like I’m getting my moneys worth from it. Also instrument-wise I don’t buy anything that I’d struggle to fix or maintain myself, so keeping things basic helps keep the cost down. I like to tinker so don’t mind learning how to fix/upgrade things myself as a when it needs it or I can replace something I don’t like. The only things on my shopping list atm are a replacement neck and some Dimarzio P Pups.
  18. Well said. It works everybody time for getting me out of a slump or feeling stressed out. Even if I’m tired and just noodling around after work for a while.
