  1. Oh well, you live and learn. Turns out it only works one way round - Fender neck on the Charvel body. Looks like I need to brush up on my tape measure skills.
  2. I’m guessing they only put those cheap preamps in to to help disguise how naturally awful these basses sound 😂 (joke)
  3. I have a similar problem with my neighbour. I sometimes think am I playing too loud, but then think ‘f*?k that guy’ because his tv/home cinema system is on at ridiculous volumes at all hours. I’ve only just got up and can hear it already. No complaints though as yet from him or me.
  4. I only swapped it because the Charvel sounds really dark, too much so for me. It seems to be a mixture of the DiMarzios and the roasted maple neck. The Charvel body and Fender neck (along with the DiMarzios) now sounds fantastic. The Precision with the Charvel sounds OKish. Definitely darker with less clarity. I’m now thinking I might get some DiMarzios for the P bass and another Fender neck!
  5. I believe they did start off as some parts place, yeah. Interestingly, the Fender neck has gone on no problem. The Charvel neck on the P body as proving a massive b**ch to set up.
  6. Yeah, they are. I think I read somewhere that not all the necks fit each other though. These two are both from the Mexican shop as well so that probably matters.
  7. Possibly useful to someone, probably useless to everybody! I have just swapped my Player Series Precision neck onto my Charvel San Dimas body and it fits perfectly (but not visa-versa):
  8. Probably a Squier precision and upgrade at leisure. Or one of these - Yamaha TRB174: https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/13100717285058--yamaha-trbx174-old-violin-sunburst
  9. Sounds good. I’m gonna listen to it properly when I get to some decent speakers later (on my phone atm).
  10. Swap the upright for a P. Bass and that’d be perfect (joking). I just listened to ‘Talk to Me’ - on Jools Holland. Is it Coltrane’s My Favorite Things the piano reminds me of?? I’m too tired and drunk to be confident about that lol
  11. Sorry, I’m a bit worse for wear 😂. That should have said ‘that’s the first reggae bass line I ever learned’. But yeah, it’s a great bassline. Family Man is a beast.
  12. Arrogance maybe? More about going for the money than the material? Less ability than they’ve led everybody to believe? Bad day? People are weird, who knows - that being said, it’s really disheartening to be in that position when you’ve put someone you know forward and they let you down. What did they say/how did they seem when you approached them? If I didn’t wanna do something , or I genuinely thought it was above me, I’d say no. It sounds a bit of a p**s take. Is he/she normally reliable and competent?
  13. Snoop Dogg - Gz & Hustlas/Bernard Wright - Haboglabotribin.
  14. I should change the title to What basslines make you happy to play including your own (explanations or links welcome 😂).
  15. That’s a good point that. There’s nowt wrong with making something your own - it’s the basis of musical evolution.
  16. Ooh, deffo. That’ll get added to the playlist. One for the first reggae basslines I ever learned that.
  17. I’ve never heard that song. I’ve just put it on 👍
  18. They don’t have to be the ‘best’ or most technical, just lines/songs you like playing. A few random ones for me I’ve been playing recently are Paranoid (Black Sabbath), Nowhere to Run (Martha Reeves), Where Eagles Dare (Iron Maiden), Higher Ground (Chilis), Bombtrack (RATM), I’ll Take You There (Staple Singers), I wish (Stevie Wonder).
  19. Amazon Music is not much better. The main reason I signed up to it, was to download albums and have them offline for travelling/work etc. The first thing it tries to do is connect to the internet and then not detect your downloaded content. A few updates later it’s better, but not by much. I think I’ll stick to CDs and MP3s.
  20. That was my initial plan until I saw the sienna sunburst MiJ! Now I’m trying to talk myself out of spending the extra money I don’t really have 😁. I already have a Player series and it’s a very nice bass so either way I’ll be happy. I was curious what the Vintera brought to the table but that’s off the cards.
  21. I think both the Player and the MIJ models are around the 40/41 mark. 44 would be way too wide for my Hobbit hands. Another reason to go for the MiJ.
  22. Is that one of the 40th anniversary models?
  23. I’m not sure I could tell much difference sound wise with a Badass II, but at least the saddles didn’t jump about and undo every time I changed strings, it was in every way more stable. The other thing it did though was add unnecessary weight, not a huge problem. I payed next to nothing for it used though, so it went on. Not sure I’d pay full price. I’ve got a Charvel with a Badass style bridge and I’m tempted to try a vintage style one. It’s a really dark sounding bass and I’m sure the bridge might play a part in that.
