Yep got Seymour Duncans as standard. Weird getting used to the massive pick up cover and not sure how the muting bar works yet. Impossible for me to palm mute with the pickup cover in place. My amps not at home as my band are doing some recording at the weekend. Tried it through a peavey wedge monitor as its all I've got here and even on that the bridge pick up sounds stonking.

Managed to bag one of these for £180. Been looking for a Ricky copy for Darkside my Floyd band and chose this one due to recommendations on bass chat so thanks guys. Bit of trouble with neck pickup but think it's just some dirt in selector switch. It wasn't working at all at sellers house so took 20 off original offer was 200 but a bit of fiddling at home and it's coming through though not as loud as bridge. Just needs a new set of strings and a slightly higher action as d string is buzzing. Just started using flats for the first time after 20 years or so. For Darkside my floyd band they work great on the seventies stuff and I agree that their clunky tone full treble on my 50s P is a very distinctive sound. Using rotosound flats. I'm still using rounds on my musicman for the eighties stuff and bits of the wall stuff. Listening to our live recordings the flats manage to fill the sound without being too bassy or toppy which can happen with the musicman. Funnily enough on my fretless bass (j Davey p bass copy) I preferred it with rounds as it was strung when I bought it rather than the fender flats I put on it. I'm going to try some nickels on that to get more expression

Hozier has a great varied album with some fine groove feel playing. Need to watch that Glastonbury set!

When I first started playing bass I used to listen to music as a whole. In fact I found it hard to pick out individual elements in music apart from solos etc. When I look back I had an incredibly poor understanding of what was going in terms of individual instruments and their interactions. As a result of this it took ages for me to truly get a handle on what the bass does in music, which again slowed down my progress as a player. However, when I listened to music the fact I heard as a whole made it immersive and magical. Now my brain immediately picks things apart and can understand the bass part and all the other aspects working together. But it's lost some of the magic as a result. Anybody else had this experience?

A few weeks in and two gigs under my belt I love my 50s precision. It is just right for the 70s floyd stuff and so nice to play. Nice to have a passive bass where you can dig in been playing actives for so long forgot that you can really give a p bass some welly Cheers for all the advice it was dead helpful and I certainly wouldn't have driven and got it without advice from the forum so thanks!

Two nights of Floyd with Darkside at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry. Used my new Fender 50s precision for the first time which sounded great. Strange night on Friday though as for some reason the first three rows were all 10-13 year old French exchange students. This was bizarre as although some of them enjoyed it, there were some trying to sleep and others with fingers in their ears. Standing ovation from the rest of crowd but it made the whole band feel on edge. Saturday night was great though! Get to pick it up this afternoon so it's ready for rehearsal on Wednesday and all things being well should be using it at our two gigs at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry this weekend. Being strung with Roto Jazz 77 flats. Will post some audio from the gig next week to see how it's faired.

My floyd tribute band is at the Coventry Belgrade theatre for two nights next week. Complete Darkside of the Moon alongside numbers from throughout Pink Floyd's career From Remember a Day and Set the controls to Learning to Fly and High Hopes with plenty of numbers from Wish you were here and The Wall as well. Just a handful of tickets left especially for Friday night.

I think the saddle could definitely do with replacing as its a bit rusty. Otherwise aside for a couple of dinks its in reasonably nick. In my budget I have around £250 to spend on mod it up a treat!

Well it's back home after a 3 hour round trip. Sound great. Desperately needs a set up, clean and a new set of strings so it's off down the local shop as with one year old baby I don't get time for such things.

Lucky I checked my spam mail today. My gumtree replies have gone there. The guys reserved the 50s precision for me! Going to pick it up today!

Think I've lost out. Seller was initially enthusiastic and said he'd reserve it for me if I was sure I could realistically buy it on Friday. Replied back saying no problem asking for address and asking if I needed to bring gig bag and now no response. I think someone has made him a better offer.
