1. Thanks. That's pretty useful. Not many manufacturers go to that much bother on their website!
2.
Perhaps they're not tuned very well. I'd put up a video of me drumming but i'd rather not embarass myself.
Actually I was just referring to my lack of ability!
3. I've been considering various Lakland basses recently, and I was wondering what makes the 55-02 better than the 55-01? Different pups and the 3 band pre-amp are basically the differences I believe. If one could afford the 55-02 does that automatically make it the better option? Do they have the same body/neck/feel? As someone who doesn't play live, I tend to choose instruments based on how they feel to play rather than the whole sound angle (speaking very broadly here!) Any opinions?

I loved Stu Hamm's sound from his 'Radio Free Albemuth' record, and was really interested in these. At the time I found the shape a bit too 'out there', but there days I'm liking it! Do they do a 5 string?
5. Greetings. I'm a bit worried about the phrase "my girlfriend won't let me.................." I think that you should take back the trousers! never heard of Lana Partridge????
6. impressive drumming, but not a video high on viewing interest! I think that my drumkit must be faulty because they don't sound anything like as good when I play them!
7. Hah! that is such a cowboy fix! Unfortunately I'm too far away to help as well. Got any big DIY stores around you like B&Q? They will have soldering irons (and don't forget solder as well). I think that it's a good thing to tackle instrument setup and repairs.
8. It's the bright colour that puts me off. I wonder what it would cost to get it refinished in a different colour?
9. I'm not sure I'd refer to it as 'playing like a girl', but I know a couple of players who just tickle the strings a bit and to be honest they look like they are going to doze off! Generally I like to 'give it a bit of welly' as the technical term goes. AND I'M NOT REALLY ONE FOR STANDING STILL EITHER (oops, bloody caps lock!) I never practice sitting down. EDIT: SteveO - LOL'd at your last sentence!
10. Nice, but the exchange rate for the Euro is just sooooooooo bad at the moment.
11. OK, maybe I'll try CODA as it's convenient and has had a recommendation. chris_b: RIM??? It used to be nice and easy as Barrie Palmer used to work at Machinehead, and I'm sure he's a good a guitar tech as you'll find in this country. Unfortunately he left a couple of years ago when the shop changed hands.
12. Live in Luton, BEDS. Work in London NW9. Probably don't mind travelling within reason for a decent job. I have Machinehead in Hitchin and Coda in Luton locally, but I'm not sure that I have confidence in either of them particularly so I'm just wondering what else may be around.
13. I have a strat neck that feels great, but in a previous life some wally chose to try and stone/level the frets without taking the tension off the truss rod. Thus all the middle frets are flat! Can anyone recommend a decent place for restoration, either by a really good fret job (might just take it still?) or a refret? The joys of buying instruments unsighted!
14. I'm not sure that I'd apply the word 'soul' to that type of playing personally, but I do think that Billy is a totally brilliant bassist. There is no-one better than him at what he does. I'm lucky to have both seen him play live and also met him - great bloke with a great attitude to his fans. Note: Richie Kotken is an amazing guitarist as well.
15. A great looking bass, I could almost be tempted but I just don't really go for that orange/brown colour myself. Something darker and more earth would have really suited me.
16. I always thought that the human race had it the wrong way around??? Right handed musicians have their left hand doing all the hard work fretting etc???? Where's the logic in that? The guys name escapes me, but there's a famous acoustic player who lost the ability to play right handed, but he re-taught himself to play all his material lefty instead! Amazing!!
17. I second the motion that the Gallery is the single best shop to visit. And yeah, Denmark street as well although it's nothing like as good as it used to be. I wish I could find a definitive list of all the music shops in the country, I'm sure that there must be places within say, a 50 mile radius of me that I could visit, but damned if I can find any!
18.
...... there is no doubt that the Precision tone is better suited to my current band's sound.
I'm a totally ignorant peasant when it comes to all things bass - what does the precision do that the jazz doesn't? Are Jazz's not more versatile?
19. Thanks. I look at the for sale section every day actually, and I've seen the other similar stuff, but I really feel drawn to Fender at the moment, and in particular a sunburst finish with a maple fretboard. Irritatingly, exactly what I'm after got sold here a couple of weeks ago. Just missed out!
20. I played one of these at the weekend and it felt fantastic. I'd be very interested but for the fact I can only play 5 stringers.
21. Thanks for the reply. I actually tried that squier at the weekend! Didn't much like it , and when I tried a Fender american jazz (only 4 string though) it played sooooo much better. The trouble with the bass centre is I'm not keen on parting with cash for an instrument that I haven't seen first, let alone got my hands on!
22. I really fancy a fender Jazz bass at the moment, and I like the idea of a maple fretboard. I went into central London mid-week hoping to find something, but I didn't find a single 5 string jazz anywhere! London ain't as good as it used to be! Anyone know of any shops selling such a bass? I live in Bedfordshire.
23. This is a great idea and a very generous offer!
24. Apart from being too old, to caught up in the stuff of life (kids, morgage, job etc), and not anywhere good enough - I'd love to be doing this!!! It Bites were such a great and underrated band.
25.
Gaskets are repairable
I have replaced many head gaskets in my time. They either take A LOT of time, or cost a lot of money!
