My input level stays the same for quiet or loud volumes I only use the output volume for final sound level changes ie practice or gigs and this will vary on size of gig and room conditions etc. I’m now preferring running my amp close to flat in terms of EQ which will make it easier to adjust for the venue as required. It doesn’t sound as good playing on your own but with a band it works Also I always have my bass guitar volume on max and tone control wide open ( PBass )

Playing with a pick I tried adding the Shape scoop sound with 9 band EQ on but adding a bit more Mids The sound / tone was amazing and the pick helped remove the boom that the Shape sound tends to cause and the depth of sound yet still punchy was a great sound with the PBass This was one of those rock sounds you have in your head .. I also had the valve drive on slightly and the compressor on too and this all made it work well together

Also as I mentioned before when you have the Shape Mid scoop sound and you change it to “OFF” the tone sounds thin while your ears adjust and then you really hear the punchy full sound that isn’t boomy or muddy but clear and defined

Yes I agree there is a big difference on the RM, the drive is more like an overdrive / distortion and very obvious The ABM does appear to be a subtle variation from on to full on assuming mines working correctly

Can anyone with the ABM600 describe the range of the valve drive ? Off is obvious and as I turn the control it comes in ( louder too ) and the changes from just on to full on seem subtle? I haven’t had it at gig volume yet of course so maybe more noticeable at volume? Ive fitted a new JJECC83S pre amp tube as the original Chinese was a bit noisy

I will be interested if they change anything I do notice a volume lift when the drive comes in and the valve warmth I changed the original to a JJ ECC83 as the original was a bit noisy / crackly The dual fans are noisier than my RM800 but not excessive and ok

I found using my ears helped and mostly ignoring the VU meter I tried at 3pm approx on my RM800 and it added too much gain for my liking The ABM600 does seem to have a more sensitive VU meter but again I’ve tried it kissing the red ( uh er misses lol ) and found backing it off worked for me Naturally playing styles and bass spec all play a part to the input signal One thing for sure although at low volume at home the shape button is nice but for normal use I take it out.... strangely you have to let your ears settle as the change is dramatic! It appears the ABM600 and RM800 are similar in EQ tones with the ABM having an added warmth and more EQ to tweek The SUB is far more subtle on the ABM600 too Great amps though and well pleased with both of mine

Lozz196 you have a lot of input gain I see ? On my PBass it’s around 1pm played finger style with the bass volume and tone wide open

What settings do you use on your ABM600 for rock / pop tones ? The manual offers some guides but I ended setting mine as above Not too far off Flat settings and with some valve drive ( seems to add warmth ) and no compressor

Previously as a guitarist I tried the all valve ( hybrid ?? ) valve heads and there was something lacking compared to a Marshall DSL 100 head. I wasn’t tempted by the bass amps but did consider them before getting Ashdown They do tend to have many choices in their range but as someone said breaking into a crowded bass market is really tough

I was a long time Ampeg user many years back but for me Ashdown is just better in so many ways

Liking my new settings on my RM800 Rock tone using a bit of drive and SUB Inspired by the ABM600 I’ve recently acquired and suggested tones in the ABM manual. Sounds good finger or pick playing ( PBass tone backed off ) Grind and punch sounding yet with clarity

Call the U.K. office and ask for service They have Alpha pots in them I believe but not easy matching up exactly Ashdown service is fantastic and they will help you

Ok guys an update .. our singer has purchased the Yamaha DRX10 speakers and a mixer from her local music store so we are sorted now

I’m so amazed that singers apply to bands and in so many cases go not have any PA or even fold back etc They also tend not to know anything about setting one up and EQ, reverb, feedback etc etc Hey that’s band life for you !

The PSX112 are lighter which may become a preference to our lady singer !!

Yes just seen that originally advertised in 2018 !! It’s in Wales though and my singer is Cambridge
