6.
Wow..thats cheap!
Yep, and made in the UK for a refreshing change of manufacturing scene....

 8. Hello all Up for sale is my incredible “Otter” five string acoustic bass, made by the wonderful team at Brook Guitars down in Devon and finished in September 2008. It is the first fiver they ever made, so they really took their time to make sure they got it right. The build quality is fantastic, from the detailed purfling to the slight bow in the back of the body to give extra strength and projection to the sound, it really does exude quality all over. It’s quite loud acoustically, especially played with a pick, easily coping with one strummed guitar and not doing too badly against two, and plugged in it becomes a total tone monster. It's set up with a low action, much like a typical electric bass, so if you want to dig in acoustically I'd suggest a tweak of the trussrod to raise the action a touch. Specification:

European spruce top with flame myrtle back/sides and walnut/rosewood/maple/ebony purfling
34” scale mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard and headstock veneer
Ebony bridge with bone saddle
Hipshot Ultralite tuners
LR Baggs Element Active piezo pickup
Elixir strings
The neck is incredible, 1 ¾” wide at the nut with 18mm spacing at the bridge (same as a Ken Smith 5 string), it feels really skinny and is very fast. The LR Baggs pickup replaced the original Headway Snake that I felt was a bit too harsh, and also a bit uneven in string balance, to my ear. The Baggs has the added advantge of volume and tone controls inside the soundhole, which are very useful for adjustments away from the amp. The original ABS case is also included. And now for some more pictures… The following were taken with flash so they aren't the best, but they do show the fantastic attention to detail and finish on the bass. Obviously, a high end, hand made acoustic bass is going to have a limited appeal in the market place, so I am not expecting people to rush at me to buy this. To buy the same bass new would cost you around £2195 today (and to show what a good deal even that is, a 4 string made by Fylde would cost you a shade under £2900!). This one is in superb condition, with just a few nicks in the edges and a shallow dent on the top, and is available for £1750. No trades thanks. Collection from NE Hampshire or Central London preferred, but will post at cost if required (and I can find a suitable box!). Cheers Gareth

 13.
Looks good where did you get active cab from and what is cost if you dont mind me asking ( I have a bass buddy looks like an ideal solution)
I googled those pics (there's also one of them using it with the Buddy), and although the cab is listed on the PJB site it won't be available until mid-August.

 18.
I'm sure I read somewhere on here that the reason Aria added the neck PUP was to get a more 'real' upright tone. Was I dreaming? BTW, I'm putting the new strings on my upright tonight Gareth (apologies for not replying sooner, it's been along week), I'll keep you posted
Well, I think the bass sounds way better just using the piezo, but hey, what do I know? Glad the strings got to you safe and sound.
 19. I don't even use the mag on my Aria any more Chris, it buzzed and also had a much lower output that the piezo, so wasn't much help anyway. I've just put Innovation Silver Slap strings on mine as well, and it has totally transformed it for the better, both in terms of tone and playability. Gareth
 20.
But it's *tiny* and *shiny* and dear
Indeed it is!
 21.
phil jones D200 is tiny, fits in your coat pocket, but it's only 150 watts.
Quite loud though, although I wouldn't say it does grit very well, if at all.
 22.
I have just acquired an Orange AD200B amp and am aware that valve amps are sometimes troublesome ... so I want a very small head to carry in gigbag pocket as back-up. I am assuming the SWR Headlite, Genz Shuttle or MarkBass F1 are the smallest but there are others. Which one would you choose in my situation (bearing in mind I prefer a valve pre-amp for some extra warmth/grit and as it saves me having to carry a separate pedal)? I have excluded the Orange Terror Bass as, whilst dinky, it is not quite tiny enough, likewise the Mesa Walkabout head (which I already have in my combo). Yay, poll time!
I'd say Shuttle 6 or Headlite. I've owned both and personally would go with the Headlite because it has a better feature set, however the Shuttle probably does grit more easily and will be found used at a good price. Does that help? Cheers Gareth
