1. Surplus to requirements. Brand new, never strung. Probably 'B' (groan...) a couple of quid in postage. Drop me a PM if ya want it.
2. I use a Line6 Pod Studio GX I really like it. It works great with Garageband. Costs £80 - so not cheap, but you do get a load of amp models which are good fun to mess about with. Here's an example clip I made a while back for a related post a while back. Main track fades off about halfway through so you can hear what I'm playing a bit more clearly. The shame of it.! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:60501] Download the above file and change the suffix to .mp3 and it should work fine - the attachment editor thing seems to have screwed it up a bit... Hope this helps.
3. Yeah, I think I know what you mean when you say 'written' - It's kinda by numbers, but still works because it's so well crafted. A couple of mistakes in my rendition, but it's a very satisfying line to nail all the way through. Cheers man! w./
4. Strictly speaking, this probably isn't what this forum is intended for, but I've seen a few other YouTube play-alongs posted so thought 'why not?' Here's my effort of 'You're the One That I Want' - yes, the one off Grease - excellently good fun to play..! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FHjiPRw0XQ
5. Hi all. Just moved into a new place and decided that what I really needed was a guitar wall where my basses could hang out together. Well, most of 'em - 2 are still floor-bound, but I can live with that. I picked up a load of long-arm wall hangers like the ones linked to here: http://www.djmmusic.com/Itemdesc.asp?ic=G904BM and then decided that rather than nob about drilling loads of holes into plasterboard in the hope that I'd find brick over mortar, I'd mount these hangers on a backboard of some description and then fit the backboard to the wall with 3 huge coach screws. A much more effective solution... So began the hunt for some suitable timber which culminated in the discovery of my gran and granddad's old armchairs which my dad had broken up for firewood and had stashed in the garden. Tut. Not only would they have made half decent restoration projects, but now being beyond repair the wood and it's shape (which kind of alludes to a weird head-stock) really caught my imagination. The backboard problem was solved! A light sanding, 2 coats of Ronseal walnut satin and a couple of hours measuring and lining up the hangers and voila! My new guitar wall. I'm really loving the look and convenience of it, despite it's somewhat epic nature... There are 3 bits of timber which I have left over, if you fancy me building one of these for you then give me a shout. I'll probably want a few quid for the additional bits and pieces and the few hours of my toil, but hey, there you go. Check out the pics and let me know what ya reckon. Cheers!
6.
not quite the same but... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ecial_Jazz.html
Not black enough..! Still nice, though - have 3 P's at the mo and hankering after another jazz - otherwise that would be worth a closer look!
7.
a big factor will be in what part of Nippon it was actually made in. For instance if it was made in the Manchurian part it might be worth less than a Korean but more than the Dutch East Indies
China, Korea and Indonesia are all in Japan? Wow. Who'd have thought!
8.
I did partially buy it with a view to sell at some point in the future
Oo. Give me a heads up when (if) the day comes around. '73, birth year and all that...
9.
Was just about to post the same thing.
It would implode from sheer blackness. (Yeah, would be nice, though...)
10.
Just looks like a black jazz bass to me...?
Which it is - but look again at the utter blackness of it all. No plates, rear rout, black headstock, gold logo. Oh man. There's always this as an alternative: http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_del..._bass_iv_bk.htm ...not a patch on the shear class of the Japanese one.
11. All black Japanese Jazz: http://kenji-cij.blogspot.com/2009/11/jb-6...-jazz-bass.html Anyone know how to get one...?
12. Err. Now you've got it, you really want to sell it, right? Please. Hehe. Lovely looking bass mate. Very jealous!
13. I think this guy is amazing: Shame that the sound quality lets the clip down a bit. He plays with a clarity and conviction I can only dream of... Love the neck bend at 36"... Also this guys play-along to Rio: A great rendition and he's changed it enough to make it his own. Awesome.
14. Haven't had a chance to open it just yet - waiting to move into my new place, just planning it as a project for now... Hmm, i can see how that would complicate things - unless I built a switch and resistor module into the the DI box which would allow me to have a 'use with speaker' and 'use without speaker' mode. I've probably got it all hopelessly wrong...
What's the amp in the organ - valves or transistors? If it's valves you'll need to have a dummy load substituted for the speaker if you only want sound via your new output.
15. Cheers Bremen. Sounds fairly straightforward. I do my own soldering on my basses so should be alright with that part, it's the technical bits that confuse me So, I'm guessing that doing it this way the signal intensity going into the DI box will be dependant on how the volume is set? What if I wanted to bypass the internal speaker altogether? Just take that out of the equation altogether? Just found this circuit [edit fig.2]: http://sound.westhost.com/project35.htm will this enable me to run a cable into the DI unit (which would have otherwise connected to the internal speaker) and then run another cable back from the DI unit to the internal speaker if needs be? Cheers man.
I'd buy a cheap DI box and wire it across the volume control. Do-able by anyone with a soldering iron and some basic knowledge of how not to get killed by electricity.
16. Hi all. Strictly speaking this isn't bass related, more electronics/amps/speakers. I've recently been able to get my hands on an old Hammond Sounder organ. Apparently it's the worst Hammond ever made - and that makes it more than good enough for me. It was made in the early 70's and doesn't have any sort of line-out/headphone socket, just an internal speaker. Now, how easy/difficult would it be to add a 1/4 inch output socket to this thing (at a level similar to, say, that of a guitar) so that I could hook it into external fx/amps/PCs etc.? Do-able?
17. I tried the white one he's got on the stand nearest the door a couple of weeks back. Was intrigued by the Polish connection. Yes, I liked it - but it needs a set up (and lighter strings to suit me) so it felt pretty ordinary from a playability point of view - but looks gorgeous. +1 on the weight. Not only does it feel like a big bass, it weighs nearly as much as my early 80's Korean ply precision, which is hilariously weighty. Worth a play, though. w./
18. Hi all, just thought I'd share this. I was after a way of recording band rehearsals without having to faff around too much with mics, mixers etc. and thought I'd take a chance on the Olympus LS-10 which describes itself as a 'Linear PCM Recorder' and looks a bit like a souped-up dictaphone. At around £165 it's not cheap (£80 cheaper than the newer LS-11) but the results are pretty amazing. Attached is a recording of one of the covers we do (I'm Just a Prisoner) and to put this into perspective it was recorded by leaving the LS-10 balanced a couple of inches off the carpeted floor in the middle of an average sized living room. The drums used were one of those toy-like mini kits (excuse the squeak from the kick pedal) an acoustic guitar, un-miced vocals and my bass going through my genz shuttle 3. I'm still amazed at just how good this sounds and as a tool for reference I can see this bit of kit living in my gig-bag forever. Totally chuffed.
19. Thank you all for your posts. Count: The neck's just a bit too daunting for me, really - being the business end of the project and arguably the bit that really does need to be right (playability wise) I'd sooner buy something that's 'reasonably easy' to modify off the shelf - that's not to say that I wouldn't make my own at some point, just not now, I'm far too green... Apa - yeah, the models illustrated in the OP are based on NURBS - or rather Cinema4D hyper-nurbs, which some might argue aren't real NURBS but for my purposes (so far) work in a near as dammit fashion. I do have a friend who has limited access to a machine that he'll let me put some high density polystyrene through, so I dare say I'll learn a bit from that before offering up a final model to someone with the experience to do the job properly. All interesting stuff, and should it go slightly awry, I don't mind cracking out the sandpaper... Cheers!
20. Here's my effort. A few mistakes, really needs more funky attitude from me, but it's getting there. One of my fave bass-lines (even though I still can't get it quite right...)
21.
neck pocket fits still need to be done by hand...unless you have the neck dimensions measured to fractions of a millimetre or dont have high expectations about the fit.
Nah, I'm looking for a Fender style fit... Hehe. What I imagine will happen is that I'll make the pocket ever-so-slightly under-size and then hand tool it to accept whatever neck I decide to use - perhaps a standard size Warmoth with a paddle headstock that I can rout down... I hear you on the complexities of the model - a while back I spoke to a guy based up here in the north who offers the service: http://www.woodrouting.co.uk/ Looks like he can get some pretty good results, but for my own sake I'll probably keep it fairly simple to begin with - come to think of it, I quite fancy a Warwick shape in a slab-style body. It's all a bit pie in the sky at the moment due to moving house and work commitments, but would love to have a go at this sometime! I'll stick to virtual ones for now. Cheers.
22. Hello. I've been toying with the idea of designing a body in a 3D app and having it CNCed for me sometime in the future when circumstances allow. Anyone here done this? If so, how did you approach the neck - ie. ready-made? Designed then built by a luthier to your specs? Of course, shape wise it's all been done before, but just spending a couple of hours pulling around splines in a 3D app really gets you thinking... And wanting..! Here are a couple of the ideas I've had. One conventional, the other not so...
23. I came across this a while back and bookmarked it: http://www.ekips.org/tools/guitar/fretfind2d/ looks pretty comprehensive to me.
24.
Aye the headstock really screams "make me a tele". Looking forward to the pics.
That's seriously nice man... Ben - I recently bolted my old de-fretted Aria SLB2A back together - it's been sat around in pieces for the last 15-odd years, but I finally had enough spares to cobble something together. It looks, err... indescribable, but plays very well indeed and sounds lovely! Just remember that the nut will need deeper slots, otherwise it'll play like a dog at the low end of the fretboard. Good luck with it man!
