A little off topic, but i have a 2007 VM P-bass (White with black Pick guard one) and the truss rod is broken and the neck is cracked so i'm replacing the neck! Is the neck pocket in the squires the same as the Fenders? Cheers!

How many of you out there use it? And how much does GP6 run these days? I'm considering it but not sure on pricing =/
Bloody hell - thought it would be steep but that's probably about a grand more than I would've guessed. The price of JapCrap these days, I dunno! So no, not for me, either. If I ever lose enough good sense to consider spending that much on a bass it'll be my own design, hand-built by the luthier of my choice. J.

It's still way cheaper than the Gerald Veasley model
I've had the fortune to play an SR5006E, It was completely amazing. I wouldn't really call it "JapCrap" (A term i'm not too fond of!), i've played customshop fenders which didn't feel as well put together or "cared for" to put it in a chick-flick kinda way haha, i mean you can tell that someone really worked to make it, where as the fenders feel a bit sterile construction wise but when you plug in THAT is a different story! (All entirely my opinion! and based on my experieces, i haven't played every fender/customshop fender or every ibanez £1K plus bass) I don't think you guys are taking into account that the prestige models all run through the custom shop (their bigger one). And the very top of the line ones like the Veasley run through their Master custom shop (the tiny one, BUT i still think that does justify a £4K price tag!) Much like the Yamaha TRB5/6II models, which run £2K-£3K depending on where you shop. Like wise "Mass produced" as in anyone can order that number from a book and it will be the same minus what colour/topwood you want from their collection, but they are absolutely fantastic. They are beautifuly made and constructed, they sound (to my ears/for me!) stunning, they look amazing and overall are just really great basses. Also, i've often thought about a custom bass... but i personally feel i will probably EITHER end up 10p% loving it and it becomes my go to for the rest of my life for everything or... i end up thinking its "alright" and sticking it on the wall with the others. I'm just pessamsitic but i find that a bit stupid in the end. That said, if you are sure of what you want/know/love GO FOR IT If you guys read all that cheers haha
Congrats, looking forward to seeing which finish you go for! As Adam says, both my Shukers are finished in the Mystic Dream flip paint. It looks fantastic in bright daylight! I did think about the Gold/Red flip too - but Jon had enough paint left over from my 7 string to do the 6 string all over as well! (I wouldn't be surprised if there's more left! WOOO!! do it!)
Woop! It really does look flippin' marvelous! Maybe i'll nick your idea of Gold/Red (Or TVRs Green/Orange one haha!) when i finally get one and i can "borrow" a few designs from your two Just kidding! Wouldn't do ANYTHING Shuker related with telling you, probably because of the excitement!

Yup i know all 14 are defo basses (yes i just stole a joke from above) But yep i'm pretty sure i know all 14!
Yamaha BB415. Really liked it. Good B, good sound, cheap. Ibanez SR505. Classic in the range. Tasted a 505 but found a second hand Ibanez K5, same ergonomics. String spacing is tight. Excellent bass. Haven't tried much else. Quest ended with the K5.
Actually, being picky about it the K5 has a smaller body Haha! I say Ibanez or Yamaha! Can't go wrong with either really!

That "Mystic dream" Flip paint purple/greeny one looks GREAT on Doods Doodle 7 string! Can't wait till i'm in full time employment at the end of the year and i can save enough for a shuker

Pedal that can give you a sound like a pick player
AttitudeCastle replied to KingPrawn's topic in Effects
The Steel Leather is alright for clean tones but you can forget about using other effects (unless you like the sounds it gets with other pedals!) As it boosts certain top end frequenices is messed up my disortions as it was acting against them as it were still a good pedal if you play mostly clean! -
Mid-Fi glitch computer! CRAZY box, well... depends on your view of crazy! http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...+pedal&aq=0
Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to look out for a used TRB or Ibanez 706. How do Ibanez's numbers go for 6 strings? I think the 706 should be the equivalent model to my BTB, but their system confuses me.
Where are you looking to buy from? Last i knew The SR706 wasn't avalible in Europe... I play a BTB676 and LOVE it BUT i know many many who have tried it (a good few of them strictly 6+ string players) who hated it! SO liek said, try as many AS you can, here in scotland though basses are much rarer!
or not, in the case of Steve Harris Rotos. To be fair they did last a lot longer than the standard Roto flats of the same gauge...
I found the Steve Harris Rotos even better than the normal ones! And the guages were an Awsome Bonus! And I REALLY rate Rotosounds flats, only Flat wounds i'll ever use (I'm a round wound player mostly, which leads me too...) But also Billy Sheehans Signature set... most notable for Custom Guage E and G string in the set .110 and .43 But i found these have a more snarl and are treblier than the normal set and have an insane treble ZING for about a week till they are worn in Still Rotos normals sets are killer and the Artists are even better
I didn't like the Ashdown J-Lo and couldn't get a good sound out of it - and had similar experiences with the Owen Gremlin and Markbass Distorsore, which work in a similar way. Main problem with it is that the distortion channel has no low end, so you blend it with the clean you end up with less bass than your clean bypass sound. Plenty seem to love it though, and it's cheap! If you want a bit of throaty roar with a mid boost, a Bad Monkey modded for a little extra low end gives you the best bang for buck I reckon. If you want more of a clanky grindy mid scooped tone, the Sansamp VT, BDDI or the Behringer BDI21 knockoff are the way to go. These 2 pedals play very nicely with each other also so why not get both!
And thats why i now own your J-Lo Haha!
I've never had any problems with my MB4210. The blend feature is fantastic, allowing me the well defined and deep modern channel with a bit of grind from the vintage channel. Occasionally I have gigged with the MBC115 extension cab, but I don't need it most of the time. I went through 2 Ashdowns and a Gallien Krueger before getting this setup which has been more reliable and gives me the felixibilty and tones I want, all at a very good price point. The one downside is it is frakking heavy!
Thats why i'm at Gallien Krueger ATM one not played a Marshall (though that'll soon change hopefully!) And i need a light weight rig
My Yammy was an early 2000's, prob 2003ish, its was 17.5mm according to my callipers at the time, which was identical to my 5 string Warwick thumb. Both were the same scale length as well. My TRB went to J.R.Bass who i think ebay'd it away from Basschat. It was just too tight for me and I couldn't get used to 34" again. I strictly play 35" scale, 18.5-19mm spacing, bolt-on necks. All 3 of my instruments have that same spec and transition between them is easy... For me of course Edit - And here it is - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=838054
Thanks man! 17mm/17.5 is perfect for me, not too wide a neck, and wide enough to let you dig in! (Plus i have slightly girly hands! in a non sexist way?) I think i'm just used too 35" scale now, though i'd need to test a compare in more depth! You have good taste my man You tried a newer TRB? You should play one if you can, maybe closer to your specs now!
-
My TRB 1006 (which I believe are now out of production) was a 34". I assume therefore they moved to 35" scale with the current range due to that being the trend with basses having a low B.
TRB 1006 is still on the site, but i'm sure they have been replaced with the TRB1000J series, which have a 5 peice neck i think is the difference as well as a few updates What year as your TRB from, well roughly as you don't own it any more? Before 2005 i'd say they were probably 34" not sure though! If the string spacing IS 17mm then Yamaha has AGAIN made my dream bass haha!
The MB stuff is surprisingly good for the price tag. The vintage channel is more like a distortion/overdrive and it can be blended with the clean (modern) channel. Valve pre-amp, good selection of tones = lot of amp for the money. Like anything made to a budget though; push em too hard and you'll encounter faults.
You can only blend on the Head and biggest combos, I'd like to play one i think!

Ashdown Little Giants aren't in production any more
Laney is ok but there are better cabs and amps. You're just moving on.
The NEXUS series are really good IMHO! and not just good for the money good! Thats just a bonus I'm still a GK/Hartke man I really like Laney, though the RBs aren't the BEST sounding but i really like them too!
If I'm not mistaken you'll be after a 34" rather than 35" length (like most 4 stingers, although I could be wrong about this) and 17mm spacing. The Yamaha TRB series is a damn good weapon of choice with those specs (defo 34" and 17mm). The older Yamaha TRB 1006 comes up on here fairly often (J.R.Bass was selling my old one a while back) and for the £450 odd they fetch they are bloody STUNNING! Most Ibanez 6 ers have the same spacing etc too.. Warwick 6ers are tight and favour the 34" scale but will set you back considerably more and the neck is waaaaay thicker than the Ibanez you've played.
The TRBs are 35" scale, can't comment on the String spacing not played a TRB-6er unless you mean older ones? I am currently saving for a TRB 1006J though!

When is a Warwick Thumb NOT a Warwick Thumb...
