1.
Nitro was the original finish back in the 50s/60s and you can see from most elderly instruments how it weathers. The HW is harking back to this, so there's no "fixing" to be done. Click on the HW1 link in my sig and you will see how they can look (albeit this had a little help from the previous owner!)
weren't the 50's and 60's finished with a good few coats of clear nitro?
2. my opinion is that if you're willing to buy a ne HW1 buy a used USA. the HW1 finish is such a cheap shortcut. i know people like a worn look and i do as much as the next guy but the cheap finish all worn doesn't look right IMO
3. i think it looks well clapton/hendrix
4. the style off basses i'm into have merged into one with a slightly gibson inspired colour. i'm currently speccing with Jon Shuker. i've made a photoshop mock up from some sandbergs
5. i've gone for a hipshot http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?...etail&p=306
6. lol
7. So i'm specing up a custom jazz bass for jon Shuker to make. it'll be through body stringing. i want something that will visually suit it as well as perform well.
8. can you get one for under £2k yet?
9. also this is the only one i could find of me
10.
But that isn't a bass face...
it's air bass face
11. for me it has to be Fender and Fender inspired style basses. mainly traditional colours. i am into the MM Big Al. kind of looks like it should of been made in the 50's/60's
12.
Although I seem to recall they had a big f**k-off PA to put it all through, and no monitors they had to waste any power amps on.
well yes of course they'd have a big PA. they did however sound rubbish.
13.
its relative...have you heard of the band who tries to play quietly
yes, and that band is called Garbage. they all went into pods then straight into the desk at one point. with butch's kit behind a plexi screen.
14. i will add here that on a typical marshall (say a jcm 800) the difference between 5 and 10 on the volume is nothing but power valve saturation/distortion. also the difference between 100 and 50 watts is that typically the 50 is 16% quieter. 40 watts seems to be the perfect wattage for valve guitar amps for both volume and tone. back to how loud is too loud. it all depends on the genre. imagine seeing motorhead at low volume. i saw the wildhearts a year ago and you could hold a convo over their volume. such a boring gig.
