1. About half of the first Audioslave album uses a low B - Gasoline, Shadow on the Sun and Hypnotize are the ones the stand out IMO. Timmy C uses a 4 string Jazz tuned BEAD. Living Colour's second album Time's Up has a lot of 5 string on it too.
  2.
Yes
While that is true - I'll expand slightly: I put a neck pickup cover on my Squier Jazz and it just got in the way, whether playing finger-style or with a plectrum. I've removed now. It did look great though. I would have tried a bridge cover but my bass has a Bad Ass II bridge so it wouldn't fit over it. You can buy the neck pickup cover off me for £10 if you want to try it.
  3.
That sounds like a plan I'd hold tight for a Rockbass $$ - any ETA on those? Eude
Yeah - I've been watching that thread for a while to check for updates on the RB Corvette $$ Someone on Warwick.de posted this link too: New Rockbass Corvette
  4. Dammit - I just posted a duplicate thread in Off Topic: Anyway here's my brief review: So I finally saw Faith No More live last night after being a fan for nearly 20 years! The gig started off great with Midnight Cowboy and a lot of the classics were played from Angel Dust, Kind For a Day and Album of The Year. Even the requisite covers were there: Easy, I Started A Joke and Chariots of Fire! They even went into the Eastenders theme during Malpractice and again in Midlife Crisis which was inspired. They never played anything off Introduce Yourself though and only 'From Out of Nowhere', 'Epic' and 'Surprise - You're Dead' from The Real Thing. Maybe they wanted Jim Martin to get less PRS payments from the older stuff? But it just seemed to grind to a halt - we got about 80 mins followed by 3 separate 2 song encores that just fell flat. The should have killed it after the first one and ended on a high note with 'Just A Man'. The gig venue, Edinburgh Corn Exchange, was rubbish and the PA was way too quiet and small for the size of the crowd and hall. Being charitable I'll forget the 2 and 3rd 'encores and give it 7 out of 10 as Billy Gould's bass sound was phemomenal - the best I've ever heard live. New Order are the other band I've loved for over 20 years and when I saw them in 2006 it was brilliant, one of the best gigs I've seen. FNM were are a bit of an anticlimax.

    Mob12 Feedback

I sold my Warwick to Mob12 (Dave) on Sunday and it was good all round. As ever it was a pleasure to meet another forum member, especially one that had a wad of cash for waiting for me;-)
  6. Not quite in the league of the stuff mentioned here but I got a TE BLX 150-SMC combo with carpet covering and tweeter new in the late 1990s and foolishly let it go. It's the one bit of gear I regret selling - I used to use it on its own with a SansAmp BDDI for practices and small gigs and with an Ashdown MAG 115 extension cab. It was a great sounding set up. I went to a more powerful and self contained 1x15 Ashdown MAG as part of rationalising my gear at the time and really should have known better. The Ashdown Electric Blue 130 I have now is great with my Squier Jazz but I'd love a BLX again. As far as 4x10s and drowning out Marshall half stacked g&*%$rists goes, I had an incredibly loud but sweet sounding Eden Nemesis 4x10 combo for a while. That was awesome.
  7. Cool - it's worth knowing that a MM style pickup fits the ATK. I'd have to try one to see if the size and weight of the body is a problem.
  8. Hi guys - I'm in Blantyre so I'm not too far away either. Let me know if you want to buy a Warwick Streamer STD ;-)
  9.
If it were me, I'd scour for a cheap 'ray. Nothing like a Stingray, love 'em or hate 'em. Can't get enough of that tone, though.
Yeah there's a SUB 5 in the USA on eBay just now. Tempting, despite the nasty finishes of them!
  10. Cheers. I see that there's one for sale on here as well. Shame I haven't sold the Warwick yet - it failed to reach the reserve I put on it (much lower than previously advertised!). I've had about half a dozen people tell me not to sell it as I'll regret it though! I've had it for 9 years so maybe I should keep it and do some choice mods instead. I still want a 5 string though!
  11. 1) Do you welcome a bass specific shop in Scotland Yes - that would be great! 2) What would you like to see in stock A good selection of used basses. More 5 and 6 strings - there's not many in the Glasgow shops at the moment. A good selection in the £400-700 bracket, not just Fenders. 3) Are you more likely to visit the shop or use our online service Visit the shop - I don't like to buy basses I haven't played 4) Roughly how much do you spend on bass goods in a year Varies from year to year but I've spent about £2000 overall in the past 4 years. I've not even been in a band for the last 3 years! 5) Is this likely to increase if you had a bass shop you could visit? I'd like to say no but yes it probably would. Good luck with the shop and post more details on here.
  12.
Basses: 75' Fender Jazz, Natural with Maple neck and black blocks.
I'd have one of those too - basically the 'real' version of my Squier VM Jazz With unlimited funds I'd get a nice little collection going: A custom shop flame-maple bodied, maple/ebony necked Warwick Thumb 5 string neck through with whatever the best MM type electronics are for a set up like a MM Sterling. A nicely figured pommelle bodied Thumb 6 string A Musicman Cutlass A really nice vintage sunburst (is that Fireglow?) Rickenbacker 4001 A G&L ASAT in natural ash An orginal Steinberger 'cricket bat' A headless Status Stealth 5 string in black carbon weave with LEDs on the side of the neck. A T-Bass 5 string A 1957 Fender Precision in 2 tone burst with a gold anodised plate And a Squier VM Jazz fretless as I wouldn't want to waste too much money trying out a fretless ;-) Amp-wise I'd go for a Walkabout Scout and some sort of vintage Ampeg Portaflex combo. I'd also get much needed bass lessons too.
  13.
It's kinda modified 80's Tokai body Fender Jap neck, schallers, SD Quarter-pounders. Fendai!!
Toker!
  14.
Hadn't thought of that Top basses those G&L Tributes by all accounts! Eude
What's the string spacing like on those? I've realised recently that I prefer the narrower 16-17mm bridge spacing of some basses. The G&L Tributes look good but I've never seen one up here in Scotland. I've always wanted one of the ASAT/Telecaster shaped ones like Cass Lewis had.
  15.
Scottish luthier who has moved to US I believe. Not my cup of tea... but hey, we are all different. The sides look like pyjamas.
It's obviously been made from a tartan-wood tree, native only to Scotland.
  16. Er, aren't Rockbass Streamer STDs, and the original Warwick Streamer STDs like mine made of carolena and not pine? Mine definitely isn't pine and I'd imagine you'd just get splinters/skelfs/spelks if you had a pine bass. Might smell nice though!
  17. My Streamer is a 4 string and I want to move to a 5! I had considered looking out for a single pup Warwick Streamer STD 5 to come up for sale and putting a preamp on it but the Streamer STD has a warm growly sound and I'd like more treble/high mid now. I've never tried the Rockbasses but I'm considered one of the new versions of the Corvette or Fortress - the maple necks and ash, or alder/maple bodies should provide a bit more high end clarity.
  18.
Ooh, I forgot about the Warwick Rockbasses. If I remember correctly the necks use the same dimensions as the German Warwicks. I wonder if they Rockbasses will also be going from 'U' to 'C' to match??? I'll pop Warwick an email asking...
There's been posts on the Warwick forum saying that the Rockbasses will have the new new dimensions (along with the 2 piece bridge and 'W' logo).
  19.
Traben Chaos Core 5. Around that price iirc.
I'll check that out - Merchant City Music in Glasgow has one according to the website.
  20.
£250 you say ? That's a steal ! Looks nice, even fancy it myself.
Oh yeah - I forgot to say: The build quality of this bass is better than my Squier VM Jazz, except for one thing: the crappy plastic control knobs! I guess something had to give to get this bass in on budget but silver plastic knobs are tacky. Even black plastic would have been better. But still it was £250, so musn't grrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuumble.
  21.
yeah I know not everyone is obsessed with Prestige basses, sorry about that.
No apology necessary - you were just stating a fact about the quality. I know nothing about those Dean basses so that is a big minus from the off.
  22. Those ACGs are rather lovely - I hadn't seen that thread but as they're out of my price range, I'm not sure whether to thank you or not! Maybe I should offer my services as a photographer for a discount ;-)
  23. Cheers EUDE, I'll add the MM SUB 5 to my list of possibles - seems obvious now! BTW - My Streamer Standard is a German built Warwick as opposed to a Rockbass. I've been on the Warwick forum and it seems that the 2010 Rockbasses will have a 'W' logo and 2 piece bridge and a version of the Corvette $$ is on the cards! I'm not too worried about getting a less prestige bass: I sold my graphite necked Status Groove and bought a Squier VM jazz last year.
