IIRC from lectures on music business/management and all that, if you're playing and earning money together from gigs, you're assumed to be in a de facto business partnership. That means (among many, many other things) that you're jointly and severally liable for each other's debts until you draw up a partnership agreement that dictates otherwise. If you're talking significant investments -- and it looks like you are -- you should draw up a partnership agreement ASAP. And of course, the partnership and all its members should be submitting an annual tax return.
Exactly! A lot of the rules for partnerships are really counter-productive for bands. It's worth knocking one out just to counteract the unfavourable rules for partnerships. These things can split bands up though!
  2.
It's the self-flagellation that's driving me forward.
That's good. After each gig I like to review everything that could be improved on the previous performance and I figure out a plan of how to improve it for the next one. Not just for my playing but the whole band. It seems to work pretty well. There's always fewer and fewer things to improve upon gig on gig. The 3 things to do are: 1. get serious about practice: both technique, just to keep the fingers moving properly, and the tunes, so that you can play them while jumping about on stage like Marty McFly; 2. keep it all in perspective and don't get despondent; 3. try to nail the next gig.
  3.
Don't beat yourself up over it. Forward!
Totally agree with this as well.
  4.
It's time to up my game and be proper. I don't want to be part of such a great gig and feel really bummed out the next morning EVER AGAIN.
Good for you, mate!

    *a-hem*
I really dont understand the large cabs, plus Ive not seen anyone using them yet, but I would be interested to hear!
Did a gig on the same bill as Harambe. Their bassist Karl Clews had the big cabs. Very clean sound. Too clean for my liking.
  6.
Actually, I've just had a proper look and my thumb, which I previously THOUGHT was pointing up, is in reality parallel to the strings most of the time!
Most of us thumb up players probably turn into parallel thumb players the faster we get.
  7.
Unfortunately that would lop a few hundred quid off its value to a collector.
You're hanging around us too much. You're starting to sound like an Englishman!
  8. So basically, you're all telling me I should buy one, right?
  9. I've used distortion (and an envelope filter) on a ballad. It can be done if you write the song.
  10.
I stand corrected.
I wish all discussions in life were as simple as this.
  11. I like the Warwick and Crate practice amps: great tone!
  12.
You've got to have a seriously short strap to pull that off, surely?
No you don't.
  13. I've seen a few of these around on various websites. Looks like just the job for me. Any experience of it?
  14.
Found a real cheap Peavey 3620 Bass Speaker Cabinet Enclosure 210 / 218 And I think I'm gonna go for that, unless someone have something bad to say about it? (Please do if you do! Anything )
Looks enormous and heavy. Are you sure you can fit that in your car and carry it in and out of the house / venues on your own?
  15. Thumb up, bounce off. I don't do double-thumb and don't see how I'd be able to without following through.
  16. You could always stick your tuner elsewhere in the signal chain. Does the LMK have a tuner out / line out somewhere? That way you'd avoid excessive input if that's the problem and if it's the tuner causing it. EDIT: Just looked it up - it has a tuner out.
  17. We did a gig for a lesbian internet forum meet-up. Tough crowd at the beginning but warmed to us. There was one terrifying point at the end of our second set break when we saw two of them pissed out of their heads on the stage: one behind the kit and one holding the guitarist's Les Paul. We didn't care about the kit (not ours) but we were all on edge until we got the guitar back. Thankfully nothing was damaged but I can't stand pissed punters who think they can touch whatever they like. Chicken wire is the only way!
  18.
I don't know anyone who has ever had a problem running a separate amp and cab. That is the usual thing to do! The benefits are that you can add cabs if you need to and you can upgrade separately, which will save you money in the future.
I agree 100%. Some amp / cab combinations sound better than others though.
  19. I remember seeing quite a few hum-cancelling and humbucking Jazz pick-ups a few years ago when I was looking into these things a bit.
  20. Bernard Edwards - great bass player. Am I right in thinking he and Nile Rodgers are on Walter Murphy's "A Fifth Of Beethoven"?
  21.
Think I could go up to 800pounds.
You can get yourself an excellent rig for that money secondhand or even a pretty good rig brand new. The problem with your Rumble is that it's a practice amp. An amp in the region of 250-500W is not a bad starting point with a pair of well-built cabs.
  22. Leaving aside the cab's acoustical properties, it's just not very sexy is it?
