1.
The melody is too disjointed in that simpsons thing... No flow and very little groove. A novelty with no substance methinks. Not sure i'm into the facial expressions...
Have to agree with you about the guy's rhythm - awful. No opinion about the facial expressions - whatever helps, I guess. Still, I quite liked the rest of it.
2. Well, I've just put a deposit down on the power amp. Lord have mercy.
3. Damn it. I can't afford it.
4. Someone buy the power amp before I do. Amazing!
5.
Thank you so much! We are 'off the road' temporarily, but will be back out later in the year with the material and some awesome musicians joining us. In the meantime, there's more on Andy's site as well.. just click on 'Andy James ' in our 'friends'
Looking forward to it. I know my guitarist will love it - he's very much of a metal background. I can't listen to a lot of metal (just 'cos of the shout/scream vocal and some of the thrash drum grooves) but your stuff isn't like that. Just sounds like good prog rock to me without the flowery self-indulgent stuff.
6. I don't use any anti-virus software on my Mac. I get all of the above points about why it would be useful. Guess I'm just a bit slack.
7. D'oh. I finally understand your band's name. When are you guys heading out gigging? Would be good to check that stuff out. Sounds great.
8. Looks like a lot like a Sadowsky. Hmm...
9. My Hartke 2.5XL is deeper than the Hartke 115XL it sits on. It looks slightly funny but it's solid enough. I have a little bit hanging over the front and a little bit hanging over the back.
10. The acoustic came from the lute which was a fretted version of an Arabic oud. Yum - fretless guitar. You know he was just kidding. I think some of the opposition to ERB from bassists and non-bassists alike is that they're intimidated by it: "What will happen to our role if ERB takes over?" etc. Some of the bassists who are strongly opposed to ERB just wouldn't have the technique or mindset to be able to play one (at least in their minds) and then guitarist and keyboard players fear they could both be replaced completely with one bassist. Sweet revenge for the 70s and 80s! I think the thing people should remember before being so opposed to the idea is that noone will force ERB on you. There's no way it will completely revolutionise the way music is made for everyone. For the people who do embrace it, it will open up new possibilities - but it's all about choice, eh?
11. Damn it. I was hoping noone would notice this one. Just wondering if anyone has bid on this so far - 'cos I plan on putting in a bid tomorrow. If someone else is after it too, I won't compete for it and push the price up though. EDIT: I'm pretty sure it is a 5-string... with a broken and missing G.
12. Most of the other bands who gig with us on the toilet circuit don't get paid 'cos they don't get the minimum number of people in through the door. It's harsh but that's the way it is. Don't book your band in to play Wembley Stadium unless you know you're going to get around 70,000 people in to see you.
13. Promoters don't charge - they take all the money.
14. I hope he cut off the engineer's hands. Why are people SO F*CKING PRESUMPTUOUS!?!
15. Check the venue's listings pages on their site. There you'll find the names of the regular promoters. Then check for their myspace page. Then send them a message and get them to check out your myspace page. Tell them how many people you can get to come down too.
16.
and bleeding a bit, if the rumours are true.
I play guitar like that (I don't use a pick) - I do end up with a fair amount of bleeding.
17. But the odd thing is that they seem to miss the soloist almost all the time. That suggests something more sinister than random acts of stupidity - but I can't see the benefit in any conspiracy to film the wrong guy at the wrong time. Unless THEY are out to destroy rock n' roll.
18. My friend is the guitarist in a band that played Live Earth - not only did he get hardly any screen time, they muted his guitar on 2 out of the 3 songs! So, depending on the type of music, the bass player might not be the guy who gets the least screen time.
19. Hah, ok. I think that settles that one. Even though there are 4 votes encouraging me to try it, the science says it's a daft idea.
20. That's terrible. They won't even know what they've nicked.
21. No, I mean a studio monitor as opposed to a PA speaker. I'd have to experiment with a few different models. Volume is a concern. I'd have to decide whether to go through the PA at the venue too. A studio monitor on a stand behind my head might not be so daft...
22. So, you know how a few players go on about getting that hi-fi studio sound out of their bass rigs... well, why not just take an active studio monitor out on stage instead of a cab if the hi-fi studio sound is really that great? Who dares me to test this out one day?
23. Your bass sound is all about the interaction of your bass, your amp and your cab. If you've put a lot of work into the sound your bass produces and that's more or less the sound you're after, of course you're going to want to minimize the effect of your amp and your cab on the overall sound.
24. If you're in the US, you can forget about Warwicks in that price range. If you're getting a first bass, you can't go wrong with a Fender Jazz bass.
25. You could try a univibe, although they're quite expensive. I've got a little Electro Harmonix Nano Stone phaser - works fine.
