2. Try Major Minor's Boot Camp Sessions on this very site: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...major+boot+camp Sessions 20-31 might be what you want.

  4.
Oh c'mon, mate, if those videos appeared as part of a Jack Dee special we'd all be banging on about comedy genius. Of course it's supposed to be a piss-take ... it's just that loads of Brits still go with the stereotype about how the Yanks can't do irony and can't do po-faced and basically aren't as funny as us Brits.
Trouble is that there are so many videos almost the same on Expert Village which AREN'T a joke. I suppose that's why it's funny.
  5. I'm wanting to customise my amp and one easy way of doing this would be to make some kind of DIY speaker cloth with the band's name and logo on it. The combo has a metal grille screwed on, so I don't see it being a hard job to unscrew this and attach the cloth over the top. However, I don't want to use anything that might cause the sound to be muffled or distorted or (worse) cause the thing to overheat. Any suggestions?
  6. Ahhhhhh - it all makes sense now
  7. Looks a nice amp. Anyone care to elaborate on what it sounds like?
  8. Maybe I'll just stick with it on 100% volume permanently.
  9. Is his bass actually plugged in? (and, for reggae, wouldn't it have been helpful to have had some percussion in there, it's not like you're playing every quaver) Expert Village - home of sh*te uninformative videos since 2002.
  10.
Has it always done this? If you have a 250k pot in ther you may want to try a 500k for a different dynamic. This graph might help explain your situation.
That graph is definitely something like what it's doing - it would appear to be a standard thing. And yes, it's always done it. What difference would using a 500k pot have on the dynamic?
  11. The volume control on my Squier Affinity P-bass works very oddly (or maybe all guitars do this, I haven't played that many different instruments). When turning the control, about 95% of the movement increases the volume from silence to about 20% of total volume and then the last 2mm of distance increases it by about 80%. It means that I have almost no finesse over my volume, it's basically either off or on. It this normal or is there something I could do to improve this? Thanks for the advice in advance.
  12. Just realised that I never left any feedback when I bought my Ashdown rig from Tom last year. The 115 combo plus a 15" cab and cable for little more than I'd have expected to pay for the combo on its own. Really nice guy, cup of tea and a chat at his home as we finished the transaction. Doesn't seem like anyone has a bad word for him
  13. My problems is translating the notes into fret position. I've played piano since I was about 8 years old, so I could pick up a bass chart and play it on a keyboard no problems, but playing it on a guitar is a very slow and painful process. As Bilbo says, it's practice, practice practice, and then some more practice. (Something that's very much easier said than done)
  14. That Baby Bass would be ideal for me, it's exactly what all the salsa bands used in the 60s and 70s. I'm using flats and foam to get somewhere close to the sound, but I'm not fooling anyone. Enjoy it.
  15.
Thanks guys. My small attachable music stand is that same as the one in the link. It's way too small for a folder. The mic attachment doesn't sound too great. There must be a solution. I'll keep digging. - martin
Go for a mic stand with a boom then - it'll solve all your problems and you'll have a lot more choice.
  16.
Dunno if this one's any better than what you've found: http://www.quiklok.com/catalog/?p=products...mp;sName=MS-303
Our singer's got one of those. Not big enough for my thick folder, but she seems more than happy with it.

    obbm's feedback

Klotz instrument cables ordered on wednesday, later afternoon, arrived friday morning in time for a gig. Top marks and great quality cables - I can't imagine these will start crackling anytime soon.
  18.
The main issue will be who writes the songs and whether they will keep all the publishing income (e.g. Lennon/McCartney), or whether that's shared between all band members regardless of particular contribution (e.g. Chilli Peppers, Radiohead). Both are common, but be clear what you're all agreeing to (the Spandau Ballet court case was on this) Songwriters get an additional income stream - as a very rough example, if one person wrote 100% of all songs on an album, he'll get 8% of the wholesale price of the album for that. The whole band because of their playing on the album may get 15-20% royalty. For ease of example let's say 20% royalty. Split that 5 ways, all members get 5%, except for the songwriter who gets 5% + 8% = 13&%. Some more info here - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2508
That's pretty much the sort of thing I was wanting to know. If we printed a CD ourselves and sold it at gigs and online but only a couple of band members write the songs, what would be the usual split of payments (stated as a percentage of the profit, ignoring the record company take etc). Obviously the song-writers would take more, but what would be normal for performers to receive? (And I'm aware that this is agreed by the band, but it's helpful to have an idea of convention before we get into the wrangling side of things).
  19.
Get a fretless No fret buzz at all (its the real reason I went fretless but don't tell anyone lol)
Yeah - but there's an infinite number of wrong notes!
  20.
Or 'because you expect them to'
Or because you've paid as much as a new car for it.
  21. Just wondering how the money from royalties etc is generally divied up (ignore any cut from the record label etc, this is just on money that comes back to the band). Whether that money comes from sales of CDs, radio plays, or even if the song is used on an advert for Nike trainers. What happens to that? I know that Jagger, Richards, Lennon and McCartney etc are vastly richer than Starr and Watts because they wrote the songs, but they still got / get money from every record sold don't they? Just wondering how this is usually resolved.
  22. So much nicer without Metallica lol. Seriously, that's a beautiful tune and arrangment (and this is from a bass player who reckons that bass solos are the worst type of solo - even from my hero, Israel Cachao Lopez). I still have your Bass Crash Course: learn bass guitar in 8 weeks. And one day I'll get past week 3 instead of just playing the exercises for fun.
  23.
A guitarist friend came around tonight. He has just purchased a fretted bass. I let him have a go on my fretless. At first he did not want to try. By the time he left he was pumping out a groove! I was just wondering how many play fretless and how many don't want to even try.
I daren't choose - I tried one once in a shop when I'd been playing less than 6 months and was so bad and out of tune that I banished the experience from my memory. I suppose I might be better by now .... but I possibly doubt it.
  24.
What a great gig that must have been to play - some right nifty movers there. The 3rd vid is my favourite.
Awww thanks. It was a nice gig, sun was out, people dancing in the sunshine ... We set ourselves up as a band for salsa dancers, so we're kind of used to people dancing like that at our gigs. We very rarely play for non-dancers though so it's nice to get some feedback from people who aren't immersed in the latin idiom.
  25.
Excellent and I like your hat too.
Why thank you, sir. I find it helps my playing to have a decent hat.
