1.
I read an interview with Roger Glover once - probably in the 80's - where he said that for recording he favoured a Hondo Longhorn.
I think I read the same interview (in Music UK), he called the Longhorn "one of the best basses I've ever played".
 2.
A truly unique musician and artist. A very sad loss.
+1000 RIP Mick
 3.
Christ, that's good! Can someone explain tied notes to me please? The only point I can see for them is to make it possible for a note length with a dot to go down to a further fraction. Is that right?
I hadn't got a clue, but this explains it- Tied Notes Cheers, Rob
 4. Well I just scored "Bass Clef Newbie", although on Monday I couldn't even finish the thing! Of course it'd be easier if someone could post a tab for it... ...it's ok, I've got me coat
 5.
As opposed to a faked relic fake?
Exactamundo!
...I think I'm getting another one of my funny headaches...
But seriously....I really like that pickguard, it just seems to suit the Bongo shape.
 6.
Good grief You do realise that in 500 years time, Time Team are going to find a whole pile of these where people have forgotten where they've buried them don't you?
And then people will be asking "Is that a genuine relic?"
 7. I like it. There's a kind of ''Killing Joke" feel to the track (no bad thing imo), I like the synth bass sound too. And of course there's some hot emo/goth girls with piercings and New Rock boots; my kind of venue ;-) Well done guys, very well done indeed.
 8.
Thank you Rob thats very kind. The articulation on one verse bugs me on that tune!! I used a Fender Geddy Lee via Boss gt6b (compression I think). Did all my parts in one day after a 'dry' spell where I couldn't come up with parts that were interesting without being too 'muso'. The trouble is I did every last part of those recordings: I am not a singer, or a guitarist etc but some things are so personal yu just have to!
Kudos. It's nice to hear some songs rather than the usual "look fast I can move my fingers" stuff that people put on YouTube all the time.
I have an album of Micks called 'Bestial Cluster' - always thought he had a great sound and wonderful ideas on that. Around that era there were so many stereotypical players on fretless or slap style that people like him and les claypool were immediately interesting just because they went a bit outside the box.
"Bestial Cluster" is cool, "Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters" is worth a listen too.
 9.
Fair play! I see you got a Mick Karn pic - bad to hear his state of affairs at present hey?
Yes, very sad. Mick's playing got me into fretless bass, and I'm still trying to the hang of those weird, eastern sounding lines he comes up with. By the way, that's some nice stuff on your YouTube channel, nice bass tone on 'Silent Scream'. Cheers, Rob
 10.
Godamn - so you're the Darkhorse who prevented me getting my nickname as a username?!!!
That'd be me!
 11. They look great! Nice fretless too
 12. Couldn't afford drums. Seriously though, I just loved the sound of the electric bass.
 13. Oh the poor beast! (Go on though, get it working 'as is' and do some sound clips, enquiring minds gotta know!)
 14. Fairdeal are a joke. A few months back I looked on their website and they were advertising a Dean fretless six string; "status:available". So I went in on a Sunday morning to try it out and, all being well, buy. No sign of the bass anywhere, so I asked one of the assistants about it, "Ah," he said in the most patronising tone I've heard "our website refers to a different location and I know for a fact that they don't have one. If you want one we can order one in from Dean". I walked out. Later that day I emailed them (their head office is a different address to the shop) and asked them if the Dean was, in fact, available. I also suggested that, if it wasn't available, that they should update their site. Two days later I got this answer- "Rob, Dean fretless six string, one available. If you want to buy it, let me know and we'll order it in for you." That was obviously some new meaning of the word "available" with which I'm not familar.
 15.
Oh sh*t no! I echo Stingray5 and hope that indeed he is with us for many more years to come!
+100
 16. That's an absolute beauty.
 17.
Oh, and dangerously, he's introduces a 12 month interest free credit scheme.... Oh dear.
Get thee behind me, satan! Cheers, Rob
 18.
and the Bass Direct Tractor Beam draws in another unsuspecting soul ...
Damn right Cheers, Rob
 19.
There have been many threads praising this guy and his emporium...deservedly so. It must take some balls to stock the high end stuff he does.
What suprised me was that, while the place is full of high end gear, the prices didn't seem crazy; expensive yeah, but not crazy expensive. (Goddamit when is this credit card going to be cleared??! ) Cheers, Rob
 20. Fancying some new strings I decided to take a ride out to Bass Direct in Warwick. Wow! It's an aladdin's cave of drool-worthy, GAS inducing bass heaven. It's also run by really nice guy, we had a good old natter about gear, bands, gigging, not gigging and, oh, lots of stuff I bought some DR Fatbeams and some Dunlop strap locks, hardly a fortunes worth of kit, yet I felt that my business was really appreciated. In fact, it was one of the most positive music shop experiences I've had. So, three cheers for the good guys. Rob
 21. Some nice basses for sure, but check out the knit wear!!
 22. I have a bad feeling about this.
