1.
Typical GP....hot air and pain killers. I find it bizarre that you have to go back in a couple of weeks before physio is considered. Seriously consider paying for a couple of sessions with an osteopath.
Standard though, isn't it? The medical profession has such a strong focus around pain relief - so, that's what I got. Have found a good osteopath locally, recommended from an old work colleague - so I'll be having a trial session next week! He was right in his admonition, however. I could be a bit lighter, and I have a history - not only from when I slipped my disc, but I did crawl out of a car crash and have had a whole swathe of earlier sporting injuries (both of which did for my back!), so... bugger, might have to take that one on the chin and get back on the bike.
  2.
How did you get on amigo?
Well, I got a bollocking for not looking after myself - and, yes, sciatica was the diagnosis. He's asked me to monitor the pain and contact again if it persists beyond a fortnight - in which case he's refer for physio, and we can have a more serious chat. Interesting conversation on the levels of pain relief. I'm only taking a fraction of what I'm allowed - he's asked me to up that and to look again at some of the exercises from previous (and a new document he had to hand), to ensure I'm continuing to stretch and get some relief beyond just numbing the pain. Managed a proper chat with my employer this morning. I've got a couple of days off next week, in advance of some travel later in the week, to ensure I get some rest prior, and they're willing to look at travel options with me - all pretty positive!

  4.
It looks a cross between a Mosrite Ventures and Epiphone Wilshire
But plays better than both, I'd hope! You're welcome to give it a try if you're ever up this way.
  5. Ah - I was a bit of a fan of the block inlays, I must admit!
Edit: Those EB 2013 aren't very nice!
Horses for courses, which is no bad thing. I really like my EB 2013. It's not an EB, but it's Gibson having a go at a new bass - lightweight; slim neck; good bridge for a change; and coil-tapping humbuckers, I really enjoyed it The finish could probably be wiped off with a cloth, so it's probably also one for the relic'ing fans
  6. As per the above, the current Epiphone EB3 is long-scale. It seemed a nice enough bass for the price, making me wish there was a Gibson option... but, then again, they've now done the long-scale EB 2013, so may Gibson think they're off the hook.
  7.
Yes, the US Standards have this cut-out as well Mark. It`s a bit awkward to do the adjustment without scraping the pickguard though, but like Ad, as it`s my bass and it`s going nowhere, I`ve not been too fussed about a bit of wear on this.
Still, sloppy for a shop - 2 minutes worth of effort to remove the pickguard, if that? I'd be having a grumble.

  10. Beautiful, hope you enjoy it
  11. I didn't know I could bypass the GP. Last time I waited for referral. Now that is interesting, thanks.

Been a little while since I've been out in the centre, but it's reasonable for train and parking - just might be more bars for drinking.
lol ~I will send out the flying monkeys for you
With my back, can they come and get me too?
  15. Apologies Moos3h, I've finally gotten back to you! Let's have another bump. Would love some cash for another EB 2013, but again considering Gibson trades. Could also be tempted by a good P bass.

  17.
Until it happens to you, you can never imagine just how debilitating it is.
Absolutely! It is completely debilitating. If I think about myself, and my life to date, I'd like to think of myself as a big guy, capable of handling himself, capable of taking the knocks and being very resilient. A dependable rock. I had to get the wife to help me out of bed and get dressed this morning. Oh aye, a real rock, me.
  18. Bumpy @ £325. Many thanks for the offers, all PMs responded to
  19. After the last injury, I'd be working up some lower back exercises in the gym. The idea was to both pull some weight off (failing, because I'm simply adding upper body muscle mass) and have a stronger back. Total failure! I'm not sure when I'll manage to get back to regular exercise, though I did speak to my employer - ok, so it'll keep me from going out on the road, but we both struggled to work out the difference between working from home and simply resting up. I could probably do both from a pile of cushions! Dug out of my old exercises for sciatica sheet from the NHS physio. A couple of hamstring stretches gave some relief, as it's morphed from the back being an issue to some real crippling issues in my right leg!
  20. Well... blimey, I am paying for it this morning! Painkillers were a blessing; but a couple of warm-up tipples might have been a bit much, though it did make the gig fly-by (albeit in soft focus)! It took me an hour to get down up and get down the stairs this morning. My elderly neighbour even came round to offer me a bigger walking stick! GP on Thursday, and I cannot wait.
  21. Me and my new matey, the walking stick. It's one of those annoyings kinds of hurt - akin to when I broke my elbow, and just wanted to laugh (funny bone, uh oh), I've got that vibe again. My GP is going to love me. Again.
  22. ... my back "popped" this afternoon. Not quite the same as when I slipped a disc, but enough to fell me. Spent the afternoon on the floor, thanfully with my work Blackberry to hand, whilst waiting for the wife to come and scrape me up I now have a walking stick, courtesy of the kind folks on my street. I'm not feeling the love for this gig, mind. I think I might have to play sitting down, not very rock and roll! Not a hope of being able to cancel with this notice, and my GP unable to see me until the end of the week. I'm suspecting I will be signed off, again, and sent off for physio. I'll let you know how I get on / how stupid I have been to try it injured / how I survive!
  23. You see a lot of instances where the artist model is totally different from the signature edition. In many cases, it's to be expected - particularly if you have a signature edition at a price point significantly below the spec the artist requires. The thing that irks me, or amuses me in equally measure, are the videos - "I needed bass which could totally match my needs... could take the punishment... could nail my tone, and this is it." Only it isn't. Not even close. Now I know they're paying for it, guys, but come on
  24. Evening all. So, the new demo is obviously working, as we're now supporting A Ritual Spirit at Gibson's, York, on Tuesday 30th. Looks like a free door at the moment (but don't quote me on that!) if any Yorkies want to come down and enjoy some heavy riffs - more than happy to have a pint and chat gear with my fellow BC'ers http://youtu.be/yu4A6JRDir0
