1. Hi all, I am downsizing my rig, and now looking to sell on my custom Flite cabinet. In a nutshell, it’s a light (50 lb) stereo 4x10. It was built by Kurt Meyer at Flite for a US customer who wanted two 2x10s put into a single 4x10 sized cabinet and still have it be superlight. I bought it off him when he downsized his rig, about 5 years ago. (Flite has changed hands in the meantime, is now owned by a chap called Gerry Suprenant. The website is now at http://www.flitecabs.com.) The cabinet has been handled carefully, and the carpeting is in good condition. The specs are as follows: - each side is a 3-way 2x10 cab; they are built together to make it a 4x10 (a la old Ampeg SVT cabs). - Rated at 300 watts RMS @ 4 ohms/side - 600 watts total - Each side has two 10” woofers, a 5" mid, and a tweeter - Speakers are Eminence, but I have never found out the exact model. - Each side has attenuators for the mids and highs - Each side has two Speakon connectors and a 1/4" input connector - The previous owner said the efficiency rating was 99db @ 1watt/meter. It certainly has been plenty loud enough for anything I’ve thrown at it (mind you, I have a Peavey DPC 1400X to power it…) - comes with a custom non-padded cover - 26” high x 28” wide x 14.75” deep - Weight 50 lbs This has been a great cab for me – light, loud, punchy, and even. However, I’m just not doing the big gigs that need this size of cab at the moment. I’m looking for £425 + shipping. Pickup is fine if preferred, and you are welcome to try it out if you are in Edinburgh. Pete

 3. I seem to have slipped down the forum a bit. Further PMs replied to.
 4.
sure you dont need spares? this is a lovely bass, if it was a five string i would currently be selling my flatmate to buy it. Funkle is a great guy btw for anyone seriously considering this
Thanks for the props! I hear the new SJ5's are creating quite a splash across the pond...very tasty looking too. Pete
 5.
argh this is soooo lovely, dont need any organs do you?
Sadly (for you, rather than for me), all organs present and correct.
 6.
If anyone's wondering what it's like to play a fanned fret, it's honestly no different to playing a parrallel fret bass. The change took 0 seconds for me, and I can switch back and forth between the two easily.
I found much the same.
 7. Fret not! ...sorry, that's the best I can do at the moment...
 8. Yep, it's a great instrument. Fortunately for me Sheldon makes them in ash as well as alder - I like alder, but I love ash.
 9.
Looks lovely but I think I might fall over while playing it!
Why? Fanned frets don't make you drink...
 10. Hi all, Up for sale is my nearly-new Dingwall Super Jazz 4. After my experiences with this bass, I have been in discussions with Sheldon Dingwall about commissioning a more customised SJ4, and it’s 50% down with a 7 month wait…so I need to free up some funds! I recently bought it off of the original owner, who used it twice on a recording session and then put it back in its case. Apparently he had 15 other basses and had to thin out the herd a little. Came to me strung with flats (which are included in the sale), but I strung it up with DR Jonas Hellborg’s (40 – 100 gauge) – which are, I think, the perfect string for this bass. Crisp, funky jazz bass sounds plus a few other tricks, courtesy of the incredibly flexible electronics package. Great slap feel on it too. One of the things I really love about the electronics on this bass are how uncoloured the preamp is when it’s activated – sounds exactly the same as when the bass is being run passive - at least until you boost the bass/treble knobs… It only takes a few minutes to get used to the fanned frets, and I find the claimed benefits of more even string ‘tension’ and improvement of tone to be true. Plus you don’t need to use custom Dingwall strings on the SJ4! Bonus. This particular bass is also fairly light (8.5 lbs) and resonant – presumably partly due to Sheldon’s custom chambering of the body. I have handled this bass with great care, and there are no dings or nicks. I did find a small area of loss of chrome on the bridge after it was shipped to me (see bridge pic), but no obvious reason for this. Otherwise this instrument is pristine, as the photos show, and the glossy black finish is flawless. It’s so new, when I first got it, the bass and the case still smelled of the nitro finish! As it stands, the case even still smells faintly of the nitro… The bass is truly professional, and one of the best built instruments I have played, bar none. Let’s just say I’ve played every kind of Jazz I could get my hands on over the passing years (yes, I have visited Sadowsky’s shop in Brooklyn, thanks for asking) and, for me, this one is top of the list. It is, quite simply, one of the most thoughtfully put-together instruments I have ever played, from the deeper body contours on the back, to the novel battery compartment which uses magnets to keep it closed, to the incredibly well-thought out electronics package. Action is currently set very low (3/64” on E string at 12th fret with the first fret capo’d), with minimal neck relief – I have a light touch. It would be simple to raise it for the buyer, should it be desired. Specifications (as per the Dingwall website -http://www.dingwallguitars.com/html/products_superj.html)

Weight – 8.5 lbs
2 or 3 piece Alder body, chambered
5 piece laminated Maple neck, Morado fret board
1.5” neck width at the nut, 2.5” neck width at 22nd fret
Phenolic nut
22 banjo-size frets (similar size to vintage Fender frets)
34.5” – 32” scale (E – G)
19mm string spacing at the bridge
Dingwall Passive Humcancelling Pickups
Controls: Volume, Rotary pickup switch (neck, series, parallel, rear), Bass boost, Active Treble boost/Passive cut on single pot, passive/active switch
18V Aguilar OBP 2 band preamp
Custom Hipshot Ultralight Tuners, with optional Hipshot Ultralight Xtender
Reviews

Bass Player, Nov 2006 - http://www.bassplayer.com/article/dingwall...-j/nov-06/23904
Vintage Guitar Player, Jan 2008 – http://www.dingwallguitars.com/pdf/Dingwall_VG_Jan08.pdf
As it stands, to get an equally spec’d instrument new, you’d be looking at just about ₤2000 (not including, I don’t think, customs/VAT etc). I am looking for ₤1500 plus shipping; you can PM me with offers. The bass will ship in the original SKB hardcase with the Dingwall adjustment tools, instruction manual, and a set of flatwounds. If you’re in Edinburgh and would like to try, then I’m happy for you to stop by and give it a shot. Just drop me a PM! Pete
 11. DJ4 was de-listed by eBay for 'keyword spamming' - which were the words 'as new'! I amended it and it's back up. Pete

 13.
lovely basses, but i have to question how on earth you got £35 for a parcelforce 48 service? it costs £14.99 for a typical bass!
Depends what you mean by 'typical bass'. Case, no case, insured, not insured? The values are simply what I got from typing the weights etc into Parcelforce's on-line calculator. The Lakland costs more to insure - most of the cost is added there. The case for the Hamer adds a huge amount of extra weight, and a chunk of the cost comes in there. It's interesting playing with their on-line calculator - most of the extra costs come from properly insuring the bass for the full sale value. Of course, if I send it it uninsured it gets a lot cheaper, but then if it's duffed up or lost on the way the buyer (and I) really have no recourse. It's much cheaper to ship using services that don't track too, but it opens you up to scammers who say 'I never received it'. Ebay takes their side if you don't have a tracking number and proof of purchase. Pete

 16.
They are superb bass, and I GASed after one for years, this just isnt getting played now, hence the sale/trade. Weight, I dont know, but can weigh it if needed. Its a pretty light (in the hand) bass though. IIRC they are Aero Pickups and sound superb. I will ship it in a used but solid hadrcase. Just noticed the pics, the bass now has a PuP cover on the Bridge PuP, I will add newer pics showing this tonight. I hadnt even realised these where the before pics!!
Thanks. Looking forward to the pics. Weighing it would be useful too. Pete
 17. What's the weight on the bass? Are those Aero, or Lakland, pickups? Hard Case? Gig Bag? Ships just as is? Thanks! Pete
 18. Great guy to deal with, bought the Rode NT1A mic off him, arrived well packed and in great condition. Thanks again! Pete

 20. Can anyone suggest somebody reliable in Edinburgh? In the meantime, I've asked Alan from ACG if he would kindly do a bit of tech work for me, nonetheless it would be nice if my 'local' tech wasn't more than an hour and a bit's drive away... Thanks all. Pete
 21.
I really do love this bass, But i doubt you'll take my NJ ironbird in trade
Sadly, correct. I'm wondering about having a Shuker made (like just about everyone else on this forum) and I could use the dosh Pete
