1. I'll be honest I don't think I've ever been in a band where I'm truly into the music I'm playing, but the dynamic of playing with other people and collectively making something that people seem to like has made that music great to me and made me love it, if you get where I'm coming from. So, yeah, to answer your question I guess it's a bit of both, but it would be primarily people based in terms of deciding whether I were to move on. You can always tell when a band has no chemistry and that takes a while to build, so I guess the question to ask is do you want to rebuild that with new people and do you think you're capable of it with the new lot? Also how much do you value just hanging out with your current band? Leaving my last band (despite being entirely on good terms - I moved away) genuinely felt like a break up! TL;DR - I'd personally choose the people I'm playing with over the music
2. I used one for years with an external step down transformer. Was achievable though fused so many venues! Unbelievable amp though, sounded great through some epifani 410s I had at the time
3. This might sound odd but what kind of character does it have sonically? I ran a mesa big block through a series 2 UL 4x10 a while ago and it sounded absolutely magnificent and am kinda interested in assembling a mini rig with one Cheers, Ash
4. IIRC there's some Eden stuff lurking around Mansons at the mo , pretty sure a 2x10 was amongst them. I will point out this is based on when I was last in there about four months ago...
5.
Be sure it's the bass and not an amp or pedal or anything else.
Heya , yeah I initially thought it was a rig issue too, however I've repeated it on now four different rigs (my mesa/matamp rig, through guitar rig 4 on my mac, directly into a friend's PA with his own cables, and through a hartke head into my matamp) with different (and sometimes new) cables that have worked fine with other guitars. Really quite annoying haha!
6.
no worries both the Bartolini pre's were the MK1 type & both on Cort basses too -- no more Bart' mk1's for me where as my Zon was the import Sonus 4. really weird, mid gig i'd get carried away & really dig in (finger stylee) then the buggers just went quiet on me,only for a second but damn annoying.
This is almost exactly what I experienced. I'd be having a ball onstage and then my entire rig would go silent. It would last more than a few seconds though. By the end of the tour I was so used to it cutting I had my switchover down to the ten second mark! Problem was at that point I was still blaming my wireless (which had its own issues) and since the bass was brand spanking new and had arrived from Germany 3 days before heading out I kind of assumed it wasn't the problem. I love this bass but my Spector was so much more reliable. Kind of wish I hadn't sold it on now . The current lowest quote I can get is around the £140 mark to get it to Germany (insurance is what's really driving up the price). I really can't afford that at this point. I've emailed asking whether they'll accept just the body, hopefully that'll do the trick . A quick question then, if this is the preamp is this a faulty one or are they just designed to do that? If that's the case I reckon I'll need to move it on . I'm not a light player - particularly when I'm mid set. Again, thanks guys, you know everything!
7.
Checking the jack is a good call, most active circuits use a stereo jack that's wired to make the power connection on the active circuit when a mono plug is in. If that part of the jack is faulty it may be cutting the power to the active circuit, but therefore not causing a problem running passive. (They're wired that way so the active circuit doesn't drain the battery when the bass isn't plugged in). Shouldn't take an experienced solderer too long to replace the jack socket, probably cheaper than sending it back to the factory, but it might invalidate your guarantee.
I didn't know that! Learn something new every day eh? . In all honesty Sandberg have been very quick in responding to emails and very helpful so I can't fault them so far, I'll drop em an email and see if we can both agree this is the best way to go. Fat Rich and Machines, thanks again for your help
8.
Changed the battery too ? Does it happen in passive mode ? I also had a similar 'fault' with my G&L which turned out to me the cable not being 100% in the socket.
Heya Thanks for the quick response! I've changed the battery and have never encountered it happening in passive mode. I'll be honest I did wonder if what you described was the issue since it seems to have really not agreed with some cables, but to my eyes it appeared (and felt) completely in the jack when it happened? Worth someone having a look at the jack input maybe?
9. Hello Just wondering if anyone's ever encountered a similar problem to this? I have an active Sandberg VM5 (haussel PUs, 2 band EQ), and it has this bizarre fault where if I'm playing hard and digging in (particularly on the E and B string) it just completely cuts its output. This doesn't happen all the time, however it happens often enough that I can't trust it for live shows anymore. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it happening. I've managed to repeat this fault through 3 different set ups and with different cables. I'm absolutely perplexed. Sandberg want it back at their plant to have a look at it however it's going to cost an absolute load to get it there (there's no way I'm sending it uninsured) however I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences with this kind of fault and could maybe suggest something? Mansons had a quick (10 minute) shufti at it and couldn't see anything immediately wrong with it. I have a local tech who's pretty decent however it'd probably cost just as much for him to have a look at it as it would to send it to Germany, and there's no guarantee he'd fix the issue. Any advice would be appreciated, it sounds and plays impeccably however it's just massively disappointing that this is happening, particularly with a bass that cost so much. Also anyone who knows a courier who'll insure it at a reasonable rate would be helpful! Thanks, Ash
10. Hello, I'll have a photo up later. Fully working, great condition, can fit a load of pedals onto this board. Can fit 12 Boss size pedals but you can play with the layout to get what you want. Power etc supplied. £50 + around a fiver for posting. If done by bank transfer it'll be sent instantly. Thanks! Feel free to PM me with questions etc . Ash
11.
I'd love them to do a non all tube amp, maybe a valve pre but a different power section with a lot of clean headroom and reasonably light. Do you think they would ever do something like that?
I thought they were working on a hybrid with a MOSFET power section? I could have completely made that up but for some reason it rings a bell
12.
Don't worry, Emperor aren't either. Making the cab broader negatively effects dispersion, so the cab gets beamier. Putting the speakers off center in the baffle has a positive, but small, effect though, as it evens response a little from the effect of the baffle, central would mean twice the effect from the symmetrical sides, whereas off center spreads the error out a bit so it has less effect.
Lovely stuff, thank you
13. I have a VM-5 with the 2 band eq, but with the Haussel pickups and honestly it sounds absolutely phenomenal. One thing I would say is definitely try one before buying - the neck profile is certainly different to other basses I've played and while I personally love it I do know some on here who've said they really didn't.
14. Hello! I was recently browsing the emperor cabs website ( http://www.emperorcabs.com/bass-cabs/ ) and looking at their 810, each set of two speakers seems to be offset. I'm not really that au fait with the physics behind cone dynamics and waveforms and stuff - I just know what I like the sound of, so what I'm wondering is if this actually has any effect or if it's just a visual thing? Cheers guys, Ash
15. Matamp are great - visited the factory when I got my 410. Lovely lot, great to deal with, stuff sounds incredible and honestly for what they do they really don't charge that much. Definitely looking to add another matamp to my collection. Possibly a 2x15, who knows!
16.
I'm also amazed at how quickly he manages to detune....
I know right? Unbelievable.
17. Unfortunately can't be too much help but my guitarist used to have one of the top end kustom cabs. Great sounding things and well made too. You looking into buying?
18. Haven't ever experienced this tbh, but if that's their stance then good riddance. I made the switch to 5s about 6 months after picking up my bass and never looked back. I find very few reasons not to have the extra string tbh. Though I find it really weird that other musicians would have an issue with it? I guess it's just a fashion thing. Just seems really odd, if anything people found it a novelty when I played with them. As for newcastle every gig I've played up there has been ace, well, scratch that the only gig I've played there has been ace , and I actually got some positive comments about my sandberg and my tone, so maybe you've just been unlucky?
19. Heya, Merry Christmas everyone, hope you all had a lovely time and are nursing suitably giant food babies Basically, since I've come by a little cash this christmas and have been saving for a bit I've been thinking about adding to my rig. A while ago I used an Ampeg SVT preamp into a Mesa strategy power amp, and I got some really nice tones out of it. What I was thinking of doing would be picking up another one (or maybe another preamp) and running it into my Mesa 400+. My intention would be to gain a second channel by switching to the new preamp via an AB pedal. My question is, can I do this? Will it be detrimental to the power end if I have two preamps running in to the Mesa 400+'s power section? Can I even do this? I'd be running the new preamp into the effects return input, which according the manual goes directly into the power section. Thanks, apologies for any potential stupidness in this question.
20.
Pretty much every single thing that comes with this logo attached:
Here we go...
21.
Got to agree that the first time I tried one (unplugged) it didn't feel right...
Fair enough, I can see how the neck could feel really wrong, it's very... flat, if that's the correct way to put. Hard to describe. Got to say I love mine though (when it's working...)
22. To my very amateur eye the wires all seem in place, however one of the wires heading into the master control on the preamp looks exposed and almost partially severed, like it's been twisted to a degree where it's begun to break. This is so weird.
23. Heya, Just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas here. My sandberg bass doesn't seem to want to give me any output anymore. Changed leads, changed amps, switched between active and passive, twisted all the knobs, changed the battery, nada. Just not getting anything. Interestingly though, when I do switch to active you can hear a bit of white noise which would seem to indicate the input is still working? All the leads and equipment I've tested it through has been fine with my Geddy. I'm utterly perplexed, the bass hasn't taken any knocks or dings, it's been treated well and doesn't have a scratch on it. Am I missing something here? Just wanting to ask if anyone can think of anything I can try before I throw it at a tech. It's got the haussel PUs in. Thanks, Ash
