FS/FT: Kala Ubass Rumbler with Galli Flatwound strings

Up for sale is my Kala Ubass Rumbler. I bought this on the forum earlier in the year from Linus27. It’s in great condition, and I changed the strings to Galli Flatwounds which I think feel much better. I will include the Silver Rumblers it came with, as well as the foam case. Only selling as I’ve hardly used it. Would consider a trade/part exchange for a precision or jazz bass. £250 delivered ono.

Epiphone Masterbilt DeLuxe Century archtop acoustic bass in excellent condition. Fitted with Labella 760N black nylon strings which I think are an improvement on the stock D'addario’s. The original piezo pickups on these are pretty bad, but I know some people can make them work for what they want. These basses play well and look super cool, so I had some dialog with Aaron at Kent Armstrong pickups about other options that would work for me. He has wound me custom floating pickups for these basses, which give the lovely warm, thuddy tone that I requested. This has been wired directly to the output jack, with the piezo disconnected. The bass now has a beautiful double bass type sound which works brilliantly for the old time stuff I play. Also sounds great unplugged, and when played with a pick sits nicely with an acoustic guitar. Is even louder with roundwounds, but I prefer the tone of the tapes. My gigging bass is the natural finish version, and I got this one as I wanted a sunburst too. Now other things are needed so this one’s up for sale. £550 Would consider a trade/part exchange for a precision or jazz bass. I will also include the stock D'addario Black Nylon strings and a gig bag in the sale. Collection much preferred but please contact me for a potential meet somewhere or posting.

I love these basses, and this is my third....... However I've been lured out of electric guitar retirement and need some money to buy an amp. Plus my wife has made it quite clear to me that having three of the same bass is pretty ridiculous. Epiphone Masterbilt DeLuxe Century archtop bass in mint condition. Fitted with the stock strings D'addario strings, and original piezo pickup. I'm not a fan of piezo pickups so never used them, however I know some people can make them work for what they want. These basses play well and look super cool, so I had some dialog with Aaron at Kent Armstrong pickups about other options. He has wound custom floating pickups for my other two basses, which give the lovely warm, thuddy tone that I requested. I will include the original black prototype he made with this bass, along with a little wooden wedge that helps when fitting it. I am looking for £350 for this, and would much rather it be collected from Beccles, Suffolk. However I have a box if that is not an option. I will also include another set of the stock D'addario Black Nylon strings.

Just had a look at the Status strings; 45-105 look good and very nicely priced. I’ll give them a try, thanks. The Epiphone with a high bridge and plectrum is surprisingly loud. It’s perfect for our acoustic practices with vocals, guitar, fiddle and snare.

I found some Labella 760G Gold tapewounds in my music drawer so have tried those. Louder than the TI flats unplugged, and sound pretty good. I should add the Epiphone uses medium scale strings so that limits choice a bit.

Thanks, I’ll give them a look.

Hello all. I was wondering what peoples opinions were on strings that have the most presence and volume unplugged. I mainly practice on my Epiphone Century bass unplugged (with a pick) and whilst the TI Jazz Flats currently on it sound great, I got to thinking if there was a particular material or brand that would be louder/brighter/fuller etc. I know phospher or roundwounds would probably be louder but I'd prefer to stick with flats, tapes or halfwounds. Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.

Are there any double bassists around the Norfolk/Suffolk border than are looking to play New Orleans street style jazz with others? If so get in touch for a chat. Cheers.
