I've recently picked up a Brandoni acoustic bass for using in my bluegrass/blues/jazz band and am absolutely loving it! I was using a Japanese Mustang bass (which I also love) but it didn't really fit in with the acoustic vibe of the band. I've tried numerous semi/hollow basses but none have felt right like the Mustang does. Then I stumbled across the Brandoni in Wunjo and was instantly smitten. It's essentially an acoustic guitar body converted to bass, but the tailpiece style means that short scale strings can be used. I ditched the stock roundwound strings and added some Labella 60-115 white tapewounds. The fatter strings nicely offset the 26" scale and it feels great to play. It sounds warm, and gives us the double bass kinda sound I wanted. I just wanted to see if anyone else is playing one of these?

I'm moving on my Phil Jones Bass Cub as it's no longer needed now I'm selling my double bass. It's the black version, in excellent condition, comes with the carry bag, and has recently been PAT tested. £360 collected or can post.
I'm looking to move on my Gear 4 Music 3/4 double bass. It's a great bass to learn on and has been fitted with Innovation Silver Slaps. I will also include some old Thomastik strings and a pickup. £350 collected from Beccles, Suffolk.
Headway EDM-1 preamp as new in the box. I bought this to use with double bass but have been using my Brandoni acoustic bass recently so it's unused. £100.
That's a shame. I'm working on my dot reading and having a bit of 1990's reminisce so The Riverboat Song and Place Your Hands in dot form would have been awesome.
Thanks for the tab link.
Up for sale is my Loar LH 550 archtop in natural finish. This is an early Korean made Loar. In excellent condition and comes with an Armourdillo foam case. Fitted with Newtone Archtop strings and sounds great. Collection preferred but can post. £450.
Cool, thanks. Is it usual to keep the input gain on preamps/amps pretty low with these? I've tried it into my Tecamp Puma combo (with a Orchid DI box for impedence matching inbetween) and it sounds better with the input level turned right down.
I'm a beginner double bass player whose recently added a Bass Max. I'm not entirely sure if it's fitted correctly. It's quite tight in the bridge, and the bridge edge is not perfectly flat. Could anyone with more knowledge than me advise if this looks ok please.
Well I did it last night and it wasn't too tricky at all. The white one is slightly too big down by the control panel but hopefully that can be sanded down if I decide to stick with the switch. I think they look great. Thanks for the tips.
I have two Fender Japan Mustang basses and I'm thinking of swapping the pickguards as I think I'd prefer sunburst/tort and cream/white. The sunburst is a '96 and the cream is a '17. Does anyone know if the pickguards are the same? I'm not comfortable enough to try this myself so would have to get a tech to do it, but don't want to bother if anyone here knows for sure it won't fit. Cheers.
