1. Man, makes me happy that i can get an awesome sound from my Ashdown EVO 500, Mini 48 and Mini 15, with my Jazz bass. All completely flat EQ :).
Why don't you stop buying a loada amps, and learn to drive, then u can save money, get exactly what you want in one amp rather then having them scattered around.
And if you don't like the sound of your bass through a PA (god help you if you do any large gigs), then make sure you get an amp with a DI that can take a signal Pre and Post EQ, means you can control the bass sound going through the PA.

2. Glad you like the tunes Stag, thankyou, i should write some new ones really :)

Just looked at the DM guitars pricelist, and its again between £200-£300.
Makes me wonder if the gallery's price is for a strip and natural lacquer finish, and any other kind of colour/stain/sunburst will bump the price to within these other quotes!

3. I've got a set of Rotosound Tru-Bass 65-115 that i've just taken off a fretless.

They've been on their a few years and have been gigged and used, but fortunately because of the nature of the string and the sound you'd expect from them i don't think it matters.
No box, just wound up etc, just thought i'd put them here in case anyone wants to try them without first spending £50 on a set or whatever they are new.

Collection only from High Wycombe or any of my gigs i have (see gigs section).
Nice

4. Most of my covers gigs are in the greater/central london area, and i live in south bucks west of london. Most gigs take 30mins or so to get to. Its no problem for me, although i get driven by the band leader to them all, so i've got it easy lol
I'd say it sounds pretty good as long as you can get away from work to soundchecks taking into account rush hours etc. We generally don't arrive at our gigs before 9, so the traffic is usually cleared by then.

5.
Well, I got a quote from a local luthier who has been mentioned on these boards...

...quoted me £300!!!!

Surely that's too much? What's a decent ballpark figure for this job guys?
That sounds like a price for a full strip and refinish? but if its already down to the wood.......?!
I think the Gallery in Camden has re-spraying from £150, but it all depends on the actual job i guess, including what colour/finish you want.

7.
The dumb thing is that if you did the gig once, then the second time she'd probably pay you your normal rate (if I understand what you wrote in your first post correctly).
Or not, theres another post (OBBM was it?) who did a "1st gig" for cheaper, and the landlady told all the surrounding pubs thats what the band charged so no-one would give them more!

8. I won't do a covers gig for any less then £60

UNLESS:
1) its local
2) i don't have to lug any equipment that isn't mine
3) the others playing are good musicians who i might learn from and have a good time with.
4) I don't have anything else booked

I have this policy because i play covers FOR the money, bands generally get treated like poo at these gigs, so i want good payment! I usually get between £60 & £150, and the covers band i work with are great musicians and we all muck in with gear etc, its a good laugh. The band leader always makes sure we're on no less the £60 each and because i live 5 mins from him, i get taken to all the gigs in the van :)

If we're talking originals, then my band is where my heart is and 99% of the gigs i do with First Signs Of Frost none of us take any money. We generally get payed £60-£100 per gig (the whole band) and that goes straight into the kitty for van diesel and merch etc.
Other originals i do as a hired bass player i'll generally do for expenses only if i like the material and go from there depending how successful the artist is.

If i was going out and doing gigs for next to nothing (£10!!!) then i wouldn't be playing covers, i'd be doing my best to find great original artists and playing for them! Playing covers is a service and as such should be payed accordingly. I know Duos that don't go out for less then £160, let alone full bands, its depressing!

9. These are both from a gig we did about 6 months ago at Bar Monsta in Camden.
The sound is pretty good for a camera, but make sure you play them through decent speakers or headphones, laptop speakers just aren't gonna handle the low notes.

Yes it actually was that dark onstage lol so forgive the odd, as Miles put it, "Opportunity" :)

Enjoy

p.s.
we're actually auditioning for a stand alone singer at the moment, thats why Owen is still playing guitar and doing vocal duties.

10. He was doing a deal a couple of months ago of like two GS112's and a mark bass little mark (250 or 450 i can't remember) for £999
I assume those just went straight out the door! lol

Nice rig, will sound awesome i reckon!

11. Theres nothing to say you need to tune down for prog, Coheed & Cambria tune to standard i believe. I wouldn't want anything thinner then 45-105 on my C-tuned bass, i was merely highlighting that i could if i chose to because the Newtone high tension strings are so good.

I played 5 strings for 3 years or so, both fretted and fretless (matching pair actually), i personally feel that i miss nothing with my 4's, standard or downtuned.

12. I wish i could grow a beard! I'd have a massive one if i could :)
At the age of 24, i shave often, nothing grows lol

anyway

Edward, you're more then welcome to watch me play some prog/tech on my 4
Just tune down!
And if you are tuning down, its not all about guage, its about the string core size. I use 45-105 on my C,F,Bb,Eb tuned bass, i use Newtone strings and they are able to increase the tension of the string by making the core size bigger. AS a result i play the guages i want (could probly go thinner if i wanted), in a low tuning, with an action similar to a standard tuned bass!
