1.
I gotta say dude, I think you need to go out play some basses and buy one! Don't want to sound harsh but there is only so much advice us guys can give. If you wait for a BassChat general consensus on what to buy you will be waiting a very long time! We are all different players and have different influences and preferences in what we play. Go to a couple music shops play everything you can afford and just buy what is best for you!
+1 you have spent alot of time looking for answers, the only right answer youl find is when you pick up that bass and its feels and sounds right. I tried a VMP and hated it, horrible bass in my eyes.
2. VMJ, if you play a couple you will find the perfect bass (due to slight differences in ALL basses of the same make/model) although i have never tried the CVJ.
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4. Laney RB2 has a headphone slot if you buy a jack convertor thingy (thats what i call em at least)
5. I Really cant stop looking at this bass... I love the custom nordy pup covers, makes it look like there isn't any pups there, just poles.
6. I quite fancy an acoustic bass and noticed Wesley have THIS for sale. Anyone ever played one?
7. That is the most beautiful bass i have EVER seen... I envy you for owning it.
8. I gotta agree with thepurpleblob. I recomend a Squier VMJ which plays and sounds great then work your way onto a fiver and the VMJ is a keeper in most cases too.
9. Ooooo what you buying?? I will keep this thread in mind.
10. RIP Paul. Seem slipknot back when they had a download festival in glasgow and loved em.
11. If i could get my hands on a graphite necked bass then i would gladly give it a wee play, but dont think there is any (too busy with exams to look properly)
12.
Do they have a no 6 string rule?!
Imagine your bandmates faces if you turn up with a 6string "but guys, its got 6 strings not 5!"
13. In my search to create my perfect bass i have come across something that i am sure has had many a thread created about it before: which is better, a graphite neck or a wooden neck. I am now back to work so planning on saving up some cash each payday and saving to make another bass, the only thing i know for sure is that it will be a jazz bass of some kind. So what are the pros and cons of a graphite neck? Are they really that much better than say a one peice maple neck? How do they affect the sound/tone of a bass? Any info would be great. Cheers, Andrew
14. Come on, must be someone in the glasgow area (or near) wanting one of these? It just lives in my wardrobe hidden behind some old clothes.
15. Why do they have this stupid rule??? They must have a good reason otherwise i would go out and find a nice fiver for myself and refuse to play anything else... But with my hands i dont really get along with fives anyway
16. That sample has blown me away... No money so cant buy and havent got on well with fivers lately either. I dont want to be too Off topic but do you know how big singles sound compared to the fat stacks?
17. I started looking at the status neck now too, near enough the same price once you have chosen all your wood and frets and a nut and finish and i know alot of people love em, but how does a status neck feel? Does it feel like a gloss neck (slow) or a satin finished neck (fast)?
18. I was hoping for more warmoth bass specs in this thread by now I know it is fueling my own and im sure other peoples GAS but whats the harm in it eh?
19.
Don't encourage me - my missus thinks I already have enough basses
lol i have 4 (Aria zzb, custom Jazz, stagg warlock and eBayed PJ) and my parents are not happy with that, but in my defence i am trying to sell the warlock copy. Oh and you can never have enough basses
20.
I guess its good for my bank-balance that Warmoth don't do mustang bass bodies & necks. If they did I'd fancy a fenderbird based on a firebird-type guitar body & mustang neck.
I'm sure if you ask real nicely they might be able to help you out
21.
Brass nut for grounding, or ground all the machine heads together with a strip of copper on the back of the headstock. I just have a copper strip between mine. No breakage troubles.
I like the copper strip idea, one 5mm strip from the E to G tuners going under the A and D. If your 100% that it works then I think I don’t have to worry about the grounding issue, I am assuming I still need to ground one saddle to the jack/preamp.
22. i forgot about status' necks, more expensive but also cooler, never tried one though so dont know how i would like it. Wouldnt wanna spend nearly 300 quid for an awesome neck that i dont like in the end
23.
That would be a pretty sweet instrument - and I say that despite not being into Metal. [Shameless Plug] I'm selling a pair of big singles on here [/ Shameless Plug]
If i had the money to do all this i would be taking those pups offa you, but as the thread title suggests, its all just a dream until i get a job and being a student it will take about a year to make the money to make this bass a reality It wouldnt be just for metal, although i am a big metal fan i dont really play much metal tbh, if i hear a bass line i like i will try and find a tab for it and give it a try. I learned some blondie and hendrix basslines last week. Do you think the big singles would be too aggressive?
