As you can see in my sig i have a jazz bass but also have a PJ ebay bass (which i think to be a ibanez copy very similar to THIS). Lately i was thinking of striping it and painting it black, filling the pup cavities with epoxy and routing a P and MM routes as the current ones seem a bit sqwint , buying all new hardware and electronics as it feels PERFECT and was my first bass. Only thing is i dont like the jazz sound from it and always fancied a MM and i feel as if i have neglected it since i built my jazz (really did love it, was only 60 quid with ****y amp, case and strap from eBay). It probably is some bad wood like MDF or plywood but if it feels and sounds right then i cant complain. Sooooooo does anyone play a P-MM bass? How does it sound? Can you get the signature MM sound and the signature P sound from it? How does it sound when both are on full volume? Any help will do as this may be my next build seeing as my thunderbird project seems to have stopped until i can find someone who can build me a custom body.

I just upgraded to a hipshot 3 string retainer from the 2 string version as the A string rattled a little and needed that little more downwards pull that a retainer offers so selling the old one with the screws. Bought from HERE and will let it go for £10 posted.

Ok, So i bought a white pearloid thumbrest for my jazz but in the end never attached it and dont quite fancy it myself. Got it from ebay from a guy who makes lots of different kinds of thumbrests. Heres a link to the ebay page HERE. I would be looking for £15 posted which is slightly cheaper than from eBay. I also have a chrome thumbrest which i got from HERE which i was going to attach to another bass but in the end decided against it (gotta stop buying rubbish i dont actually like/need for my basses ). I would be looking for £12 posted which is again slightly cheaper than from eBay. Cheers, Andrew

Remember he may have modded it himself, Could look and feel like an OLP but actually haves some awesome eletronics, Unless you asked him of course... Hope you fix this problem either way.
-
I just hope he replies to this thread or me and clears things up with both of us. Hopefully he can explain himself.

Ah, seems its not just me who has been rippped off. I asked for a ash TBird body to be made and gave him a deposit which he then PM'd me saying later on that he was instead going to use ash core and maple wings, i later was able to call him and ask for a mahogany core with ash veneer's (front and back) and since then no PM has been answered, just sent him a PM a moment ago asking if anything has happened. I think i too will give shockwave a PM if i dont hear from him by monday.

Obviously with a custom you get everything you want and the chance to get that dream bass youve always wanted whereas a high end would be great but also much easier to know that the final product sounds/plays the way you want via reviews. The custom made jazz i made is great, it just needs a replacement saddle and a pro setup (once i save up some money) and would highly recomend DIY'ing it if your peicing it all your self as its great fun.

I bought 3 from the states, 2 P necks one jazz all for projects but only fitted the jazz one and its great.

Seen Megadeth the last 2 (maybe 3) times they have been in glasgow with my mum (shes liked em since their 1st album) and i gotta say they are everything i was expecting and more. Always preferred dave tbh.
I've got a little Saltire in the corner of my amp grill. Subtle yet visible! I try and steer clear of things like that on my basses unless it's on the scratchplate and therefore easily replaceable. By the way, if it's for the bass in your avatar, don't do it! It looks amazing as it is!
Yeah it would have be. Think i will just buy a wee sticker and put it on the strap
-
Hmm now that i seen that pic i think it looks horrid :snob: Maybe a wee sticker would be far more appropriate

Read somewhere someone was thinking about painting a union jack onto the body of a bass and sure this may be a common thing (flags and such instead of solid colours on a body) but was wondering if anyone has ever done this to a headstock. I was thinking of a Saltire for my Custom Jazz (already a light blue so might go with it) Just wanting to know if anyone has done it or any feedback on the idea at all. NOTE: If this should be in a another part of the site (like tech and repairs) please can a MOD move it if they think its the right thing to do.

I emailed Schaller and they have replied telling me to send it to them and they will replace it for free Anyone else had anything like this happen?
-
I would love a jazz bass one if there is still any going.
-
i want it!!! I really like the bridge ashtray, Usually i hate em...
-
No exposed thread, if there was i was gonna use a set of pliers. I tried the once supplied with another schaller bridge but their site says they are the same size and it does actually work on the other saddles. WD40?? I have heard of it but never used it and not really sure what it does either... Could someone tell a DIY noob what it is all about? Cheers
-
Ok so i was trying to do my own little setup on my bass and noticed that the height screws on one of the saddles on my Schaller 3D-4 bridge wont move, so i cant change the string height of the A string. I have a allen key which came with my 5 string version of the bridge and tried a bunch of other allen keys too and no luck. What are my options? Is there a way to force them out then hopefully they can thread through again. Just rather not spend the 40+ quid to replace a full bridge.
