I have 5 Precisions which I'm only now stating to think is a bit much. If you like them & play them it's no problem

I got a tuition DVD on EBay to help me, nust called something like Double Bass for Beginners.

Grammer aside, jolly decent to "throw in a stand and a strap to compliant it". That would really compliant it?!

Welcome to Basschat. Owning an instrument is always a personal thing so ultimately you'll know when you play the right bass for you. The current Fender range is great & would certainly suit your genre / budget but ultimately you won't know until you plug in. Happy hunting

I've sold a few bass things at really reasonable prices and lately I've been amazed at how many people who will undercut the price to about 40% and email to say I'll give you £50 for an item listed at £130. Years ago stuff used to just go but about half my stuff is now a relist. It sells still though and at my price I originally specified. I don't mind people trying to knock a couple of quid off the price (I say no 99% of the time) but some people just take liberties

At a standard gig it's just a Precision but at the bigger gigs I'll take my upright too. Or if it's acoustic just the upright

He's great on the Lou Reed video when he explains why he double tracked his bass (to get two fees). So unassuming. He always comes across as a top bloke

It's whatever you want to pay for it. There are sellers that break these things up on EBay and sell them for £200 plus - if you are happy with that then fine. I've picked up Fender necks for £100 before but you have to really search EBay and strike early. What's the figure you've been quoted? In terms of fakes, pretty much what Steve said really. If it's a nice neck, it'll feel good. If you have any doubts and are not sure, just walk away.

Bear in mind you've been listening to professional players with a bigger budget than you, it's still easily done though. I played rock in a band years ago with a Peavey combo & a Fender. The Sansamp Bass Driver would be good & heavier strings do thicken up the low end.
