1.
But they are more expensive, aren't they?
If you google around the 1x15 white cab goes for as little as £399 which is cheaper than the same model in Orange
2. It seems fitting that I'm the first to comment then Very nice! In terms of your pricing question, that knock is a fair sized one but not the end of the world. Assuming the rest is as you say, I'd wager you could go for £1250 - £1400. The higher end of that if that's the original case. You mentioned the possible U2 link in the other thread. As this can't be validated it *may* make a difference but because it can't be evidenced for certain I'd suggest it probably won't affect the price. I know a few people who've owned ex-big name players kit and without certificates of authencity it sadly becomes little more than just a cool story. My Ampeg SVT USA 15E is rumoured to be ex-Wurzels and I challenge anyone to come up with a cooler naff link! We have a few other 70s Fender players on here & I certainly would be interested to hear what they think price wise
3. OK, Glam Punk days from early 1996 and then a session I did over the summer for a friend so just a few months ago. Interestingly it's the same drummer & guitarist but a very different style. Both are just Fender Precision basses just DI'd
4.
Do they do them in black?
Yes, ironically. White too!
(she signed us up for some cat food stuff online today, We don't even have a cat !!!)
5. And as I liked the Orange head so much I took the plunge with the matching cab! Screamingly good fun and really punches out the tone!
6.
BUT... ON FRIDAY I WAS IN A BIG SHOW! SINGING AND PLAYING BASS! I'M BACK BABY! I NEVER EVER EVER THOUGHT I'D BE ABLE TO GET BACK ON STAGE AGAIN, AND I BLOODY LOVED IT!
Nice one, well done
7. I am tempted to put this in Gear Porn but wanted to share the virtues of signing up for shop emails. Following the soundcheck death of my Ampeg head I needed to get a small mini rig for the gigs where we don't take a van and space is an issue. We've stopped gigging for the rest of the year so I was in no hurry to get a spare second head. However, I had an email from Soundslive with a few discount codes. I was nearly tempted last year but didn't need any gear at the time. 15% off Orange was one offer so I took the plunge and bought the Terror Bass head. I liked it so much that I decided to go the extra mile and get the matching cab. To my incredible surprise I tried the same discount code again and it worked! So I've found the cheapest shop in the UK and saved an additional £130+ on this set up. So it never hurts to sign up for the newsletters etc, even when they start to feel like spam. Tonally, I'm very happy. There's enough on Basschat on how these rigs sound so I'll just leave it with some pictures
8. Welcome to Basschat Anthony
9.
As if Argos wasn't bad enough.
My thoughts exactly. My friend runs a music shop and is forever setting up badly set up guitars from Argos that customers have brought in. The danger longer term is that the little shops like his will get pushed out of business. Then of course everyone will moan when they can't get strings on a Saturday afternoon pre-gig.
10. I'm pretty sure he's a one man operation. I have the Wizard Trad in my main P-bass and I liked it enough to buy another one (in a bass I sold on at the weekend). Traditionally people who upgrade pickups tend to go for hotter / higher output but I prefer old school tones.
11. I gave him a ring (I think it's Andy but don't quote me) & he was really helpful. Tell him your set up & what you want and he'll be really helpful. I left a voicemail & he rang me back in about 20 minutes. Very cool to deal with
12. Brian, welcome. No not rude. Your pricing is about right. It depends on condition & original parts etc. Post some pics in the general bass section with as much info as possible & we can give you an idea.
13. Ashdown in our main rehearsal studio & Laney in the one we use if we can't get in the main place. The Ashdown cabs are great but I am not a fan of the Laney stuff I've played. The other day there was a Behringer head there which blew me away. I didn't see that coming!
14. I've imported about 6 or 7 from the USA and you do get stung for customs but it can work out cheaper with the right deal. Whilst Tino's suggestion may seem quite clever & you may well get away with it, it is technically illegal and if you do get caught you'll be paying a lot more and answering a fair few questions too. I'm sure plenty would try it but personally I wouldn't.
15. Welcome to the forum
16. Welcome to Basschat and indeed welcome back to bass
17. And a body close up
18. Another one
19. And in all it's glory!
20. I'd keep tabs on EBay. I got my SD Antiquity for my 51 RI for a mere £26 or £28 (I can't remember which one!). Bear in mind the Antiquity is the most expensive of SD's range. I've seen a fair few go for similar money, albeit slighty higher. If you are not in a major hurry it's worth watching EBay and advertising here too
21.
Err.... nowt.
Likewise. And then I forget stuff
22.
I have the SP210 and the Terror and it sounds great.. You can get alot of power and tone just from these two.. People are often blown away with the tone and volume. I've done pretty big stages with it as well
I ordered this cab at the weekend Can't wait!
23. Technique aside I find foam under the strings up by the bridge works for me. It may not be appropriate for everyone but I use it all the time now
24. Just from the point of my OP, this was really wondering where people sat tonally. Not particularly about who we try to sound like. The 3 bassists I listed are not my 3 favourite players necessarily or from my favourite band. It's more a case of listening to music and thinking "this sounds like me". I would hope I sound like "me" but it was more about where we are coming from. I think tone can be quite a personal thing and certainly wouldn't want to just rip off a players sound directly - unless perhaps I was playing in a tribute act for that player. To me it's a melting pot of all the influences being put in together. Equally I've enjoyed listening to players who sound absolutely nothing like me whatsoever. I'm really interested to read the differences. Was it Doddy who mentioned Jaco's sound? The first page had a few in the Motown camp (like me) but I am wondering about other sounds too. I bet we have players who sound quite synth like but nobody has mentioned that yet. Do keep 'em coming!
If I wanted everything to sound the same then I'd have bought the same bass six times over and saved the trouble
It worked for me!
25. I suspect any of the name brands would be fine. I use Kyser Klassics Dr. Stringfellow for the simple reason it's what my local shop happens to stock
