I had a Saturday job in Wilko in Rotherham, and a woman came in with Elvis playing at maximum volume on a mono cassette player. She wouldn't turn it down so she got chucked out.
If I recall correctly, Elvis died on the Tuesday and at our gig on the Wednesday at the Barrel Organ in Birmingham we played 'Money Honey' from the Elvis Presley album and the 1954 single release 'Milk Cow Blues Boogie'.
I was on holiday when Elvis died, I remember my Mum crying and wondering what all the fuss was about. But even though I got into punk, like Marc S I realised just how ground-breaking Elvis truly was, and how important he is to much of the music we listen to today.
