1. +1 for nylons, beware that the variation between brands is huge. I've tried Piacato and they are very trebbly, Fenders have more bass.
2. Precision+piezo played somewhere around the bottom of the neck.
3. Now you mention it, that C string is going to ssssssooooooooo skinny, I think it's low B unless anyone has a damn good reason why not.
4. Low B or high C? What's the norm? The most pupular? What do you prefer? Why?
5. I set one up for them just like that, they sold it on-line a few months back. It's a nice bass, the set up out of the box wasn't great but it's well made , the neck has two truss rods and set up easily. This is a bargain! I was vaguely interested in the one I saw but didn't need a bass with so many strings or knobs.
6. Did you buy it from a Westbury (Wiltshire) music shop?
7. bass as was. bent neck neck on opperating table here's one I did earlier! Couldn't have been simpler! It went so well that the fretboard is still good enought to use. As my main reason for buying this bass was to fix it up and sell it on, I might just keep it as fretted.
8. Preivious valuations are about what I'd have said, I've played a couple of these and I'm always impressed with the tone and output from the pickups.
9.
I have done it to my old bass http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=718431 Only I didn't put the iron straight onto the neck I put an old tee shirt between the two.Came off clean.
That's the green light then, tonight's the night...
10. A while ago a got hold of a bass cheap. It's a Shine active 5 string (pics later) , it came from a shop that went out of business. I bought it with the idea of using it for parts but I've come round to the idea of trying to repair it. What's wrong with it? : the neck is more bent than a reject banana and the end of the truss rod is missing(from what I can see it's broken off). I though about fitting a new neck but the neck pocket is an odd shape so I'd have to make some sort of scratch plated to cover the join, also the cost is more than I wanted to spent on it (I may not like the finished bass, I'm not fussed on five strings or actives) So... it occurrerd to me that if I could remove the fretboard, replace the truss rod and put on a fretless board I'd be £'s in. Found this article on removing a fretboard: http://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi...amp;thread=5347 I have nothing to lose...or do I?
11. Playing an uber-heavy twin neck in two originals bands until october when I turn 45 and the chrystal in the palm of my hand changes colour...
12. I've triied a Westfield P bass and was impressed! I tried it next to a Squier (afinity?) P bass (it also had a jaz pick up) , of the two the Westfield had a better set up (out of the box) and a FAR superior tone. The Squier had a muddy tone in comparison. No idea what the Westfield jazz is like. If you current bass is a "cheap Jap thing" then unless it's also ancient , none of these basses are going to be much better than what you have already.
13. I'm glad I'm not in your band! (maybe I am??)
14. Search in the for sale forum for aerodyne, there's a red one (it wa still available last week) , the owner's out of the country but the bass is still here. Got myself a Jazz with S1 switch so didn't go for it myself.
15. COMING SOON SPUNKY VENUS! http://www.willowsguitar.com/willow_sub1.html
16. "Spunky Royal Fretless" - it's a euphemism for something, not sure what but I bet it's kinky+1.
17. Thanks for the advice, I was going through various options (including building a bass with Status neck) for aquiring amore serious bass. As it happened a US Fender Jazz turned up at a good price (Thankyou Sunfish), so for now it's problem solved.
18. "DO NOT EAT" - That's what "they" want you to think. Do you have any idea of the street value of that stuff?
19. Certainly does, as it happens I'd finally found an explanation on the web myself. PM on it's way shortly.
20. Vaguely interested but considering several options. What does the S1 switch do?
21. I'm toying with the idea of building a bass using a Status Jazz neck. Anyone have any experience of them? How to they compare to say a Fender Jazz neck?
22. I have an Ibanez acoustic, was my main bass for a while (playing mostly folky stuff). They seem to be difficult to record with, never quite sitting comfortably in the mix. I still use it but just for informal jamming, probably always have one but,if times got hard I'd trade the Ibanez for a cheaper one. Home made acoustic fretless: Also a one time main bass, mostly used for practicing/late night noodling, wouldn't be without it but not gigged anymore. Twin neck (fretted/fretless) : my gigging bass, used in two completely different bands, both necks 50/50. I suspect that most people would get more from a fretless than an acoustic.
23. Sale pending...
24. Deuteronomy 5:6–21 : "you shall have no other band members before me." God is a solo artiste.
25. One of my bands is a four piece and always has been, always will. The other has been up to six regular members, we have gigged with seven. Last year we boiled down to a steady five and that seems to be the right ballance between making a big sound and I can't make it that night , only six more instruments to sound check and the gig starts in ten minutes, how the hell are we all going to get on that stage? We've been paid but after petrol money the split is £3.75 each isuues.
