They've changed the format quite a lot. Very high standard though. At least one very good acoustic player was unlucky to miss out I felt. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

One of my colleague's daughter is in this years show and has done quite well, she is fantastic!
What did she do?
Mix 1 part lemon oil with 2 parts light mineral oil. I used to use it every time I changed strings on a guitar or bass. During busy gigging schedules that could mean once a month on the gigging guitars (mainly Strat - R/W and Eggle Berlin - Ebony); less frequently on the basses of course...
The recipe was given to me by one of the senior techs at Eggle Guitars many years ago. A 250ml bottle lasts for ever; I still have plenty left in a bottle I prepared probably 10 or 11 years ago. The mineral oil feeds the wood and the lemon oil brightens up the frets - at least that's how I remember it. Whatever, it worked extremely well; the guitars felt great and smelled nicely lemony!

I wonder if many of the responses are from millenials and there's a generational thing.
I understand millenials don't like criticism.

I'm the same age as you. What's a millenial by the way?
Say to yourself as many times as possible: "There is no spoon."
Not sure it'll help but it will pass the time while you think of something better.

Well... I suppose TWO farts in one post is pretty good.

Not to mention courageous!

So essentially they heard his song Photograph, and they thought, "Wow! That's Amazing!"

I did it too for a while (though not for many years now). The playing techniques are not as common as you might imagine - things like Rasgueado (say 'Rasgeao'):

and Rumba:

are pretty much unique to the style
I'd say the instrument you have will be fine while you're in the early stages. As you progress you'll begin to notice limitations to what the guitar will let you do - as with all guitars they're not all the same, and more money will buy you a better instrument (but also as with all guitars you won't need to spend a fortune to get a good one).
Here's what it should sound like:

Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy!

Why am I the only one on Buddy's side?
It's a good question. Maybe the responses you've received are telling you something you need to hear. This kind of rant may have been o.k. 30 years ago (and I don't doubt his supporters would have gone to some lengths to defend it), but today it would be considered abuse - certainly in the UK.
It's not what he's doing; it's the way he's doing it. Inexcusable IMHO; and defending it on the ground of being passionate about his art is pretty specious.

You know it probably is just the picture. However I am not going to check just in case
EDIT: I checked, It's crooked

At first I assumed it was me. Then I decided it must be the photos. Asking was actually my third choice.
Is it just me or is the control plate slightly out of alignment with the bridge plate? Could just be the way you've taken the photos, but even so...
Not a problem even if it is of course...
I like the enthusiasm too. Good luck to 'em (and when all's said & dusted they're unlikely to want anybody old enough to be posting here, are they? Eh? Eh? ).
Well if the Northampton branch isn't to your liking try Birmingham. I used to know the manager there and he's a really nice bloke - friendly and helpful. The stock of guitars is humongous too.
It depends what you're looking for in terms of service as well - experienced players will generally have a pretty good idea what they're after and just need pointing in the right direction. Others are looking for a bit more guidance. You pays yer money I guess...
Great interview covering his life with cancer. Well worth the watch if you can.
ETA: Now finished but available on the iPlayer - go to the news channel.

I've managed to stop myself gassing over a CAR '57 RI. There's something about the red, white and maple fingerboard that makes me go giddy!!

Never fancied CAR. Just doesn't do it for me. No idea why. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to wash my mouth out with soap and water...
