1. Brilliantly made made guitars - the neck/body joints were more snug than the MIM fenders in Sound Control (PMT) in Salford on Sat. I've gigged the VM jazz and CV jazz with absolutely no problems. Ian
2. Does anyone know which make of string uses the different coloured loops on the retaining loop? They are on my new CV jazz...they still sound quite good even after a gig and plenty of home noodling. Thanks Ian
3.
Just bought Ians' MIM P Bass. Top notch chap to deal with and packs stuff as if his life depends on it. Nice one! Thanks Ian. Grahame
Thank you very much!...may I also say Grahame/Pantode is an excellect 'basschat-er' - promt payment and good communication! hope you enjoy your new toy! Ian
4. the CV jazz is better than the vintage modified jazz which i had....
5. After not changing me bass guitar for the last 2yrs-ish I'll have managed to go through half a dozen *hopefully* by the end of next week. Let me explain..... Bass No. 1 Bought my trusty Mexican Precision off ebay from a guy in York - black with 3-ply black scratchplate and rosewood neck. Great action with never any probs but after selling my Digital camera and lenses and squirreling away any brucie bonuses from gigs I'd saved enough to by summat else - I fancied a Jazz Bass. Put a couple of posts on here asking for any - had a few interesting offers but they were either too far away to collect or too expensive. Ended up putting a blog on the Northwest Bands web site asking for a jazz, again offered a few nice guitars but nothing which fiited the bill. But I found a guitar for sale which is my dream bass - US Precision with through body stringing, black with black scratch plate and a MAPLE neck. Think Roger Waters/Stranglers/Bruce Foxton. But won't be available until this Saturday. But to buy it I've had to sell my MIM P Bass. Sold it on here... ....Mr UPS man before he dropped kicked it into the back of his van.... But because I'd managed to sell it so quick it left me without a bass for this weekends gigs! Ended up borrowing two guitars from blokes at work. Bass No. 2 Crafter Cruiser MB-500 Bass. Musicman Stingray Copy. roughly £180 new, ebay - less than £65. It Needed a good clean! Fair condition to body, with Neck pretty straight with no obvious buzzing or dead spots. BUT...The pots scratch, The action is high, I don't have the correct allen key to lower the bridge saddles and worst of all The jack socket 'spits' out the guitar lead. Opened it up at the back and there's a retaining metal clip which is pushing out the plug. Bent it back to stop it putting pressure on the plug. The plug keeps in place now, but its a bit loose. Would have had to gaffa tape the lead to the guitar if i gigged it. Ended up borrowing another bass from someone else at work... Bass No.3 Maya Jazz bass copy Nice Sunburst finish, but Bridge volume control doesn't work and you could have drove a bus between the strings and the fretboard! After pulling me hair out trying to sort out the action and intonation I phoned the guitarist/singer in my band and asked to borrow his guitar... Bass No.4 Stagg Stingray copy At last something I could gig! played it for the first time at fri nights gig. Bit of getting used to but got the hang of OK in the end! Offered to buy him some new strings, but got a bit waylaid in the guitar shop when I spotted this beaut... Bass No.5 Squire Classic Vibe Jazz Bass Bought it from PMT in Salford. It was £299 in the shop, but I knew GAK were selling it at £249 which they matched, no questions asked! Sounded just as good as the Mexican 60's classic bass on the wall, with a better neck/body fit. Awesome at the the gig Sat night, the thinner frets really help when your sliding up or down the fretboard. And a Lovely glossy neck! And still enough dosh for me new (to me) bass on Sat!.....TO BE CONTINUED!
6. From left to right.... Maya 70's Japanese Jazz Bass Copy (borrowed), Crafter Cruiser Stingray Copy (borrowed), Stagg Stingray Copy (borrowed), Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass (I actually own it!)....sofa by dfs

8. Hi Here's my Mexican Fender Precision Bass for sale. I'm going to try and be as honest as I can with the description. Black body with a 3-ply (black/white/black) scratchplate and maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. The serial number is MZ1106549, which I guess dates it to 2001. I bought it approx 24 months ago off ebay from a guy in York. I had it professionally set up when I got it. Since then the neck or intonation has never needed altering. Its currently strung with elite stadium '45's with have been on for about 2 months. Once the new strings have settled in it very rarely needs much adjustment in tuning. It has had no modifications or any other work needed on it. The electrics are absolutely spot on, with no crackles. The neck is very fast and the back has started to gain a nice glossier feel to it, from use. There are no buzzes or dead spots. There is one small mark on the back of the neck which you can't feel when playing. Its about 2cm down from the skunk stripe, on the underside. Fret wear is minimal, there are some marks to the frets on the E, A and D strings up to approx the 7th fret, but they are too small to photograph. The head has started to mellow to a nice yellow tinge. There are three small nicks to the head, the largest being right at the top - nothing major. I have used it for gigging with my band but it has always lived in its Gator hard case when not in use. There are some surface scratches on the body, as you would expect from a used guitar, but these are all very minor with no chips through the paint. They are in the usual places - buckle rash, edges and scratchplate. They are all too small to photograph. If you wanted to make the effort they could be polished out, but I think it adds to the vibe of the guitar. Some of the screws on the scratchplate have started to tarnish as well as a couple of the pole peices on the pick up. I assume this is just from 'sweat' (....mmmm!) from playing. Again, I should imagine they will clean up if you wanted to do it, but its the mojo, man! I am seriously keen on keeping my guitars clean and it is always polished after use with a lint free microfibre cloth and Jim Dunlop 65 Formula guitar polish! All the stcratches described above were on the guitar when I bought it. Like I said, a bought it off ebay, but I'm loathed to sell it on there due to ebay and paypal fees. Thats why I want cash on collection only. I only want back what I paid for it - £275. Or I can sell it with a black Gator case for £295 I've had scout about on ebay and the last Mexican P Bass in the UK went for £285 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precission-Ba...=item45ef2feb71 Give me a bell of you're interested! - 07964866512 Thanks Ian
9. 'play that funky music white boy' by wild cherry?......always goes down well with the laydees....giggity!
10. fender american traditional, same tuners as my MIM P, 80's stylee one peice scrat plate and control plate.....are they the budget fenders before the mim range?
11. Ended up takin the strings back...... Loads if ' I've never heard of that happening before!' and 'you must be playing a Fender copy'..... They finally offered me the Elite strings I originally wanted for the price I paid for them last time - £18. A lot of fannying about when I could just buy them off the interweb for less.
12. Great service and products! Highly Recommended Cheers Ian
13.
After losing out on a MIJ (Salmon Pink) '62 Jazz Bass on eBay last night (probably to one of you evil people) due to being caught out by £1 in the last five seconds, I've decided I really need one in my life. Would anyone be willing to sell one, or know anyone who wants to sell one, or even any local stores* that are selling one? *Preferably NOT to be imported in from the US, or Far East - because I haven't yet got the balls and confidence to buy from abroad. If anyone can help me with my new lust, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
yeah..was watching that guitar, very nice...not mine though!
14.
Nor me - I like things as simple as possible but it does mean I'm set up first at practices and gigs. This means I end up helping everybody else shifting their gear!! Steve
yeah..that's me as well! Come to think of it, our guitarist just tends to use two guitar sounds - dirty and clean - without the use of effects pedals. I reckon its more unusual for a guitarist to not use effects and I must admit that sometimes I wish he would use more sounds, but i suppose he does have enough to do being the lead (only) guitar and lead vocal.
15. Got a gig on Sat - Halloween Party. The bar staff are dressing up, and we've been asked to as well. Anybody ever done this before? Have you got any photo's? I need some inspiration for a costume! I suppose an obvious couple of things are Alice Cooper face make up or Slipknot masks...
16. How many people just use their guitar and amp for gigging, without any effects inbetween? I just can't be a**ed with lugging about more equipment, which could also be another thing to go wrong. If you're playing regular Rock / Pop covers which was originally recorded without obvious effects, are effects really required in a pub/club situation? Ian
17. Went to my local music shop to buy a set of my usual strings - Elite Stadiums. I'm certain the last time I bought some they were £18. But now the price had jumped from £18 to £24! Its one of those shops with no price tags on anything, I'm sure they just make up the price on the spot...sod that i thought, i'll buy some off the t'interweb. Then they offered me the cheap strings for £12. Like a fool I bought them. Alice strings...Made in China. Tried to fit them yesterday to a MIM P bass with standard bridge, but the metal loop on the string is too small to be held by the bridge. It first popped out when i was tightening up to tension, but you can pass it through the hole in the bridge at a certain angle. The loops are definately smaller than the loops on the elites which are on the guitar. Luckily I didn't just cut the old string off, which I normally do. So now i'm gonna have to go back and either get me money back or ask them to replace them with string which will fit.
