nordstrand big split and big man pickups with him some crazy pickup switching options!

Those are the pickups I have with 4 way switching for each pickup! Good choice! It’s incredibly versatile. It will be worth the wait

  2. Yeah the burnt  ash is a beauty! I saw the body in the flesh when I was down a few months ago! I was very tempted to go the same route for my next bass. But I wanted a light coloured bass. I’m going with a walnut body, Italian sycamore top wood, sycamore neck and fingerboard, with a walnut scratch plate. Chris and Al are great guys, who are masters of their craft! I don’t think I will ever buy an instrument from another company.

how did we ever learn stuff in the old days, lift the needle, back a little bit, oops too much forward a bit oops too much.....

If we were lucky there was piano music for it, having to transpose it for bass lol oh my, it's SO easy now.

There is a lot to help now, but to be honest it has a lot of downfalls to! We can all learn from looking to the past, my ears have gotten so much better since I made the conscious decision not to look for scores / tab for songs I want to learn, and just transcribe by ear.

That being said learning theory helps as it narrows down possible note Choices and make the process much quicker.

  4. You Tube is your friend here. There are lots of online bass schools that use you tube to advertise the types of lessons they give.  I would recommend checking out the following people:

    Janek Gwizdala

    Scotts Bass Lessons

    Jayme Lewis

    Adam Neely

Once you get an idea of who would give you the most inspiration, you could either sign up to their school, or just take advantage of all you  Tube has to offer.

  5. I reported this instrument too. It winds me up that people list this stuff like this. I don’t believe for a second that the seller believed the bass to be genuine, because if they did the asking price would have been closer to £1000. Some one trying to pull a fast one on some uninformed parents before xmas!

  6. I acquired my Alpher 2nd hand but it’s a masterpiece! So much so that I have my own spec of Alpher in order.  My current Alpher is a Claro Walnut body, Buckeye Top, Rosewood Neck, Ziricote fingerboard. Nordstrand big man pickups. It’s a beast!

  7. I love the cure, but I think they are a shining example on the fact that the masses listen with their eyes and not their ears. It always confused me that they were labelled a goth band when so much of their output is very joyful! People looked at their image more than they listened to their music.

  8. Thanks Dannybouy. I know the reddi will only affect the FOH tone. I do like the Tone Hammer and it is really flexible, I’m just sick of arguing with sound guys that don’t want to take a post eq Di from my pedal board, and I end up going through whatever cheap DI they have lying around.

I not bashing the Aguilar at all it is still on my board, and I will use the AGS for some grit when needed.

On the other hand, Janek Gwizdala in one of his videos talks about not having any issues with flying around the World with his Fodera into a SKB Bass Safe, which essentially is a hard ABS shell that fits your gig bag into it (which does not look very safe to me...).

I think the gig bag you use inside the SKB would also be a contributing factor. Following Janeks VLOG showed that Fodera being checked in  numerous time and no major damage, so perhaps a good gig bad and an SKB could do the trick for one bass, then hand luggage the 2nd bass.

  10. Bit late to the party here, but as a first DAW it’s worth looking at Mixcraft if your running Windows. It’s got a very easy learning curve and is fully featured. Plus it doesn’t cost a lot.

Think you might be wrong there. I've been in shops and bought something, took it to the checkout and when they scanned it it came up with a higher price. They said they had to sell at the price listed on the item.

Any price listed is an “Invitation to barter” shops don’t have to honour an incorrect price, but you will find a lot of the time they will honour it in the name of customer service.

  12. Wow we are on page 2 and no one has said Jaco Pastorius by Jaco Pastorius yet...

i would also put in Voodoo by D’Angelo - Pino’s playing on this is insane.

i would also throw in American Elm - Janek Gwizdala, the more I listen to this album the more I realise that the bass in just an instrument, and it doesn’t restrict what musical choices we have to make.

  13. Does anyone have some real life experience with the REDDI? I am thinking of getting one but it’s a lot of money to shell out when I don’t really know if I am going to get a decent return. I would be using it for live and recording. I currently use the Aguilar Tone Hammer DI. If I could get some feedback that would be great, even better if some one in Scotland has one they would let me try that would be amazing!

    Cheers

  14. I was in the same position as you, and after playing as many compressor as I could get my hands on I went for the Cali76 CB. I don’t regret it for a second. It’s expensive but it’s worth every penny!  The High Pass Filter and the dry blend is what really stands this compressor out from the crowd. I am very happy with it, and would highly recommend!
