It all depends on the sound I am going for. On my p bass I prefer the dead thud so a set of chromes will last a couple of years. If you still want a bit of a brighter tone and you are recording I would be changing them just as often as round wounds. But it's totally subjective.

Love them, been hooked since day one. Janek and Bob Reynolds are 2 truly inspiring people. I love their content.

Oc2 and afrantabit he has a video on YouTube showing ir

He definitely not using the OC2 for this as the OC2 only has 2 sub octaves. As I said above it's definetly the boss PS5 supershifter, with the iron ether frantabit before the PS5 in the signal chain. -

No, no no!
Go and sit on the naughty step and think about what you just wrote.

Each to their own. I love the postal service version too, But the is something I love about the sound of the deadened piano. -
Dirty loops - Baby, Ben Folds - Such great heights, Rage Against the Machine - Renegades of Funk

I use them on my 35" scale fretless, I love flatwound chromes on my p bass but thought they were too dull on my fretless, so it sat unplayed for a year after i bought it. I saw the half rounds and though I will give them a bash. I love them much brighter sound they feel nice and slinky. I would definitely recommend trying them!

Recently been using Andertons, really good service, answered email questions quickly, and sent and packaged well

He uses a boss ps5 super shifter (now discontinued) he also has a bit crusher usually either the iron ether frantabit or the bug brand bit crusher (both no longer made) and the tc electronic nova repeater delay (discontinued) in the signal chain. In his vlog #5 he really details how to get that sound.

Great video from Scott on how he reproduces sound of James Jamerson:

I really enjoyed this too. -
I'm with ambient on this one. Muting is a 2 hand job. I think at least 50% of my muting comes from my left hand, whether it's fretting with the pads of my fingers using the tip to mute the string above, or mainly fretting with my first finger then using my middle and ring fingers to mute

I think as I have gotten older I appreciate flea's tone less and less. When I was a teenager and californicaton was out I loved that brash beat the hell out of the bass tone, now my ear drifts towards a bit of a smoother tone.

That's my bid in...been wanting an acg for years

Thanks guys for the response. I have seen them live a few times and yeah I've watched funky monks a couple of hundred times. It's crazy how tight they are as a band to adjust to each other's playing. Because only hearing the bass it sounds pretty sloppy and lose, then going back to the album it sounds awesome.
-
Hmm is there any way to know the authenticity of this? Is this the actual album track. Listening closely the seems to be a lot of rushing the beat etc.
-
I'm agree with Bubinga5 and say Pino Palladino, but Mike League has to be up there to even if just for his awesome bass face.
-
No you are right, it is a crazy request. I would expect to have to change the strings on a 2nd hand instrument. Most people would want to put on strings of their own preference.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I would love to say We like it here - Snarky Puppy, I can sing all the parts but still working on playing them! -
I made the switch and it does take some time to get used to. I do miss the B for playing Motown or anything in Eb, but I think for soloing and chordal playing the C is just much more useful.

I genuinely didn't realise I was opening up such a big can of worms by posting this thread. I just wanted to bring one of my favourite musicians and a dude that I thought a lot of this community would like over to the UK for a solo gig!
-
I agree really nice genuine guy who shares his passion. One of the finest musicians out there at the minute. If people are judging him based on stopping using an Internet forum, I don't think the problem is with him.

The mapping tonal harmony app for iPad is a pretty good tool, I think it cost about £8 or so. Scott's Bass Lessons, and videobasslessons.tv are really good learning communities but do cost quite a lot at about 40 dollars a month each. If you are willing to shell out that amount of cash I would recommend getting some proper face to face tuition, and read as much as you can. You will be surprised how quickly you will pick it up once you start reading every day with your bass on your lap. The mistake I made when doing what you are trying to do was I tried learning theory and reading as a separate thing to my playing. Have your bass in front of you as much as you can so that you relate everything to the bass.

To be fair if you watch his VLOG you would see a guy who has gone through tremendous personal growth. I think it would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to bring one of the worlds best players over to the UK.

So today 09/01/17 Janek said on his VLOG that he is wanting to do Solo bass gigs anywhere in the world he just wants people to bring him tangible suggestions and help setting up a venue. I would love to bring him to the UK ideally Scotland or North England. Is there any one else out there that wants to help make this happen? Get in contact and we can make this happen!
