1. Right chaps, whilst the paint on my effects is drying up I was contemplating over the idea of building a dc brick. There are 2 sensible ones I can find. First is tonepad project using LM317 voltage regulator with total cost of around £40 : http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=111 Second is general guitar gadgets using flatpack transformer with total cost of around £30 : http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/gg...ower_supply.pdf To be honest the tonepad project appeals to me more than the ggg one but I might be wrong, wht are your thoughts ? There's also a question if any of you built one ? If you did how quiet is it and is it difficult ? Cheers Jack
  2.
this is it: i was going to change the jack plug for a 1/4" socket, and run it from what i would describe as a side chain. any ideas?
It looks fairly simple to acomplish, you can however expand on this project and put in a sound sensor as well which would react to the music being played, sort of a effect of flashing disco lights.
  3.
hi guys, i want to build a sound to light unit that i can plug into. i've found a drawing which i think should work. It uses a 12v circuit, but i want to power it using a 9v battery. is this going to be a problem? as far as i see it i'm going to need a box to allow me to take a feed from the main signal, but without losing the main line, in order to make it work is this going to be a simple - ish job? sorry for so many questions!
Can you post the drawing/schematic for the unit?
  4. I have 3 of those that I will not be using http://www.musikding.de/product_info.php/i...black-14mm.html
  5. for knobs go banzaimusic.com, what resistors and caps you need? I might have some spares!
  6.
has anyone ordered printed PCBs from tonepad before? what are the delivery times like?
It takes about 2 weeks to arrive, I've ordered 5 pcb and had to pay about £10 in vat and other stuff!
  7.
Do these good write-ups of the SR300 extend to the 305 as well? I'm looking for a 5 string for a max of 300quid to satisfy my metal urges.
They do, I have one converted to fretless and it's absolutely amazing!
  8.
Have you tried Bitsbox? Fast delivery & good prices. They should have all of those caps. You may find this useful as well For example 0.0027uF = 2.7nF What are you building BTW? Cheers
I must be blind coz I can find them I'm "attempting" to build : Small Clone Chorus, Rebote 2 Delay and MXR Envelope Filter all of them based on tonepad.com projects! I'm just ordering parts and stuff but couldn't find those capacitors anywhere!
  9. Right lads, I'm in a need of some parts that I can't find anywhere It's all capacitors so if any of you could help me out I would apreciate it I'm after : 4 x 0.05uF 2 x 0.0027uF 1 x 5pF 1 x 0.0027uF 1 x 0.0033uF 1 x 0.0047uF 1 x 0.033uF 1x 0.047uF Who can help
  10. I can do better than that http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-282620-...3440&sr=8-1 got one of them and it's ace delivered for free as well
  11. Right, time for an update because the ink for the printer and spray cans have arrived. First thing first we buy a bigger desk and assemble it Second of all we order some pizza I had someone PM me asking how I know where to drill the holes on the box, it's simple, I went to my local timber merchant and asked them for some mdf cut up to size and created a template : It doesn't have a top because the holes for the switch and pots are dictated by the decal design as well as the layout of parts inside the box. First we print off the decals on the waterslide paper and let it dry, the instruction says 30 mins but I left it overnight We come back in the morning and start preparing the enclosure, you have to clean it from all the dust, grease etc. I use normal washing up liquid and soak the box for about 5 minutes and give it a good rub with a soft sponge. When the box is getting soaked I cut out the decal using very sharp stanley knife I then prepare the work area with all the materials needed. I soak the decal for 60 seconds and it peels of nicely, I then apply it to the box and get rid of any air bubbles using aan old credit card, the end result should look like this : After a couple of minutes is starts to dry and show true colours : Now I'm going to leave the decal for 24 hours and spray it with clear coat tomorrow, I'm planning on applying 3 coats in total to make it a hard and scratch resistant as possible. 1 last thing to mention, you learn as you go, I originally printed the decals exactly the same size as the box which means that the edges are not sticking to the box, it's a minor thing but I suggest leaving 1-2mm off from the size to make it look neat and tidy. More updates to follow.

  13.
I brought up a similar idea and used 7string.org as a benchmark, but the general consensus was that people couldnt be bothered.
What if it was mandatory to post a new thread! If someone can't be bothered than what's the point of selling in first place? Maybe some sort of a search that when you put your postcode in it will show a location, ie N22 = Haringey, North London!
  14. Agreed, when I joined the forum and had a combo for sale I think it was Hamster who pointed out that adding location would be beneficial! I wonder if there is a way that all the posts in Bass and Amps&Cabs could have a template so when you start a new topic you'd have a mandatory fields like price, location, postage cost, description, photos etc...
I get a lot of stuff off Bobs Bits Box, he only has the pin-type jacks, makes no odds to me what I solder onto Wiring the 3pdt switch either way up makes no odds, as long as you have the tabs running horizontal, if that makes sense.
The metal clips being on the left and right hand side ? I read somewhere that the logo should be facing north and south but mine don't have any logos
  17.
Here's the enclosure - graphics done by printing in reverse onto inkjet transparency paper, then laminating to the box with a thin smear of epoxy, ink side down.
Heh, no prob sir! Here's the pcb being wired into the enc. Just waiting for the CA3080 chip now, bought a couple off ebay.
Looking at that pic does it matter which way you wire up a 3pdt switch?
  18. Hi Al, Looks great Do you mind posting it in the DIY topic in effects? I want to get a one place for all the builds where people can ask questions etc and then maybe we can get one of the mods to make it into sticky! You also owe it to me due to the fact I took up the DIY route after seeing your builds
  19.
A step by step would be awesome if you're feeling up to it! I've always fancied building my own pedals, and as I'm in the market for a fuzz the idea of making my own on the cheap is even better. Unfortunately the only electronics work i've done is a basic wiring upgrade. I can handle soldering wires, but how to all the little resistors, capacitors, chips and whatever else, attach themselves to the circuit board? Witchcraft? I've got a Behringer DC9 compression pedal and it's got a fake stomp switch. It annoys me a bit so I bought a real switch thinking it wouldn't be too hard to change over. I gave up just looking at it.
I will try to be as specific as possible. I'm not a electronics expert mind, I got myself ''Electronics for Dummies'' and I'm reading it at the moment and it is great, just wait and you'll see me soon asking questions

    DIY Effects

Right chaps, Seems like there's a lot of people on here building their own effects so it might be a good idea to have one thread where we can have all of the hard work in one place. Hopefully one of the mods will sticky this for us. What got me into effects was 2 separate things. 1st was a request from my guitarist to build him a loop pedal and 2nd was all the recent threads about the effects which made me think ''I can do that'' and of course the fact that I'm unemployed until 11th of April and have loads of time on my hands. My first project is a double bypass loop kit which can be found here http://www.musikding.de/product_info.php/i...3cb450a8ffe5743 It's a very simple thing for the first project so I'm happy with it. Progress so far : The box has been pre-drilled There's another little box on there about which you can find out a little bit down. The second stage will be to apply the decal of which the template is this, not that it has the position of LEDs and switches on it as a reference point. The second project is a fuzz face pedal which can be found here : http://www.musikding.de/product_info.php/i...3cb450a8ffe5743 I believe that it's a good project to be my 2nd attempt, you saw the pre-drilled box for it in one of the pics above and here is a template for a decal : I am waiting on some toners for my printer as well as some paint so as soon as it arrives I can start putting it together. For now I'm going to put my mind into making myself a proper workbench as I think that my Mrs does not aprecaite me using kitchen worktops Expect a build report on a workstation tomorrow.
  21.
Maybe a stickied DIY thread in the effects section? That would be cool. Finishing a simple blend circuit tonight
Very good idea, I'm sure one of the mods will do this for us. BTW if you want to try the paper drop me a PM and I can send you 1 sheet, I've got 8 and I doubt I will use them all given that you can fit about 5 decals on 1 sheet.
  22.
First pedal I have built in ages. Silicon Fuzz Face with increased input and output caps for more bass. I used 2N222 transistors in this. Controls for Fuzz, Bias and Volume. First time painting an enclosure, a metallic red finish. Very hot output. Has two sounds really, a gated fuzz and a full on fuzzy meltdown. Quite pleased with how it turned out although next time I think I will try some decals as well.
If you want decals then use this http://www.inkandmedialtd.co.uk/acatalog/I...ecal_Paper.html . With my research I've gathered that this is the best paper for that sort of stuff. You get 8 sheets for £13.78 which isn't a bad deal. I will be trying decals on a effects loop that I'm building for my guitard so I'll post results here. Funnily enough all the recent threads about DIY effects got me into building some and I have quite a few projects lined up so maybe we could create a collective thread where we can all post questions, pics etc ?
  23. Ibanez is deffinitely a good bass for a start and I can recommend them with no problems as I had quite a few and my first ever bass was Ibanez! Your price is a bit steep tbh, look here http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/ibanez-gsr-bass/66291 and you can have it for a lot less! GAK are on this forum and they can probably do you a deal as well so drop any of the guys a line!
  24. Well you can always buy a good pedal tuner for the fraction of the price of a rack unit! Like this http://www.dv247.com/guitars/korg-pitchbla...ar-tuner--48997
  25. Well I'm in the same boat but can't justify buying a separate tuner when I have one at my feet! Might just do a 1U strip with some flashing LEDs
