  1. I had the same thought yesterday, surely you can change the fan for a better quality/quieter equivalent for not much. I had an ABM 300 head many years ago, and can’t remember how loud the fan noise was. I’m getting old and fussy now and I would love another ABM, but fan noise would drive me nuts after years of small class D.
  2. Are these both still available?
  3. Then there is still hope! I think there are a few artist preamps on the way as well. I really fancy going back to Ashdown.
  4. The Geezer is £1099 at PMT, the Shavo is on sale at £664, and the dual VU rackmount ABM 600 IV is £799. No doubt they are worth it, but still a bit too much for my needs.
  5. That looks class, but if it’s priced like the Shavo or Geezer It’s going to be too much for me ☹️
  6. I follow Guy on social media and he has been dropping suggestions/hints that there is a Ashdown collaboration coming soon. I was thinking a pedal or maybe even a bass, but someone recently asked if he was still using ABM heads and replied “watch this space”. I need an amp but I think I might hold off just in case it’s something really interesting.
  7. I keep saying this, we used to get £400- 500 a night no quarrels back in the late 90s early 2000s
  8. I used to get around £300 - £400 but it’s been a while since I have done a pub gig. One band I played with only ever did private functions and weddings which were much more profitable and we could charge around 1k. A drummer friend of mine also runs a wedding venue, and he has had couples paying £2500 plus for bands recently. One three piece charged £3500. If your in the right area, people will gladly pay it.
  9. I am currently loving everything Lee Sklar. His two basses seem like they could cover everything. So shocked Fender haven’t jumped on the band wagon with his precision, and this Dingwall shape in a solid colour is incredible.
  10. Big fan of Mr Mayer and the very talented bands he always puts together. DeLa’s work on room for squares was just fantastic, it was busy at times but so on the money and never got in the way, it just drove the songs so well. Pino is Pino, pure class in everything he touches and so is Shaun. I have listen to Sob Rock once, and then I put it on the shelf, as I realised it was going to be one to digest and make sense of at another time. I found this a bit with Born and Raised and Paradise Valley, I just needed time to appreciate what they were. I wanted him to make a soaring indulgent 80s inspired rock/ballad album with all of the influences he hinted at and I think I felt a little let down by Sob Rock.
  11. I will take a look, that’s not a bad price by any means. Yamaha gear has always been super solid in my experience.
  12. I have read through quite a lot of this thread and the QSC K.2 cans seem to be king, but they are a bit pricey for me at the moment. Is anyone using the QSC CP12? I still think this would be significantly more powerful than say a Ashdown Rootmaster 112 combo which I was looking at.
  13. Dirty loops don’t always hit a bullseye with their stuff (but I can’t name a single act I like that does) but when they do I think the results are glorious. I have listened to the new stuff and wasn’t immediately struck by thriller, but the instrumental funk song above and turn on the light just leave me in awe! If I played in a band even 1/10 as good as them I would be permanently grinning like a Cheshire Cat, playing good music just does that to me. I played in a 12 piece soul band and when we got it right I basically laughed and smiled song after song and was permanently looking at and bouncing off my band mates. I don’t know why having fun comes off as being smug.
  14. I can’t see it ☹️
  15. I bought a Toneman 1spot power supply to run a few pedals but it is making a hell of a noise, or at least I think it is. I play through my laptop, and plugged direct into my interface there is no noise or hum. I add in a battery powered Boss OC2 and there is no noise. I use the 1spot with my tuner and another pedal individually and I get an awful hum, it’s worse with the Korg Tuner. As soon as I touch a metal part on the pedal or Jack plug or my bass it goes away. Is this a dodgy 1spot, dodgy power in my house, or do I need to buy a full on isolated power supply to sort the problem out? Thanks in advance.
  16. Does he sell them direct? I can’t even find a website for them, just a few sites selling them for over £200

    Deciding on a filter

I completely get what you are saying. I had an old DOD envelope filter because of Flea when I was younger. I had a lot of fun with it, but once you have played along (badly in my case) to chilli peppers songs, I couldn’t see a lot of use. Recently I saw a video of Ian Allison and he was using down sweep with other pedals and for the first time I heard where it could be used to replicate synth parts. I am a sucker for old funk and pop and now I am hearing the down sweep filter more. I must add that for now at least I am only playing at home, so I am hoping I can jam along to some tunes for the fun of it, I cannot think of any more than one song I would have played in previous bands where I could have got away with using a filter 😄
  18. I would just use an ABY pedal to split the signal between both amps. I have thought about doing this with two combos for bigger gigs. You won’t do much better than this: https://lehle.com/EN/Lehle-P-Split-III
  19. There’s something not quite right going. I would try the head with different cabs or get in touch with Orange. I used to gig in a very loud band with a 350 watt head and really pushed it a few times and it never cut out.

    Deciding on a filter

Bought something, let’s see if it turns up ok. 😎
  21. I am no pedal expert (I have two threads already asking for advice) but when you read a lot of reviews for various pedals, they all seem to reference the OC-2 and use it as a benchmark. As the 3Leaf pedals are like unicorn tears, I just went back to the beginning and bought an OC-2 and it’s great fun. It is the original octave sound you have heard on so many records. My octave journey may continue, but the OC-2 seemed the best place to start.

This is the conclusion I am coming to, everything that seems to get universally good reviews is really expensive and pretty much sold out apart from the AF-9. The Spectrum sound great and there’s so much flexibility, but I could see myself endlessly tinkering and not just playing and getting on with it. The Filter Twin is now sold so I am toying with a Discumbobulator. I could always sell it on if it doesn’t work out I guess. I am still intrigued by the Seamoon but need to look at how much they are.

    Fuzz Hunter

I have just seen the FEA Photon Fuzz, another good option there as well as being tempted by the Malekko B:assmaster and the Latent Lemon Brassmaster clone.

🤣 got the octave sorted (for now) I bought an OC-2 from this very parish as it seems to be the benchmark for many people. Also chorus wise I may go cheap and simple and get the Boss or TC, or I do like the Providence chorus which is a bit more expensive. Got to focus on filter and then probably fuzz. after that it will be how to power it all and what order etc so expect more threads eventually 😄
