Thanks Guys. I'm expecting some photos soon. I don't know a great deal about vintage Fenders, but I know there are variations in the logos, finishes, machineheads. I'll seek your comments again, when I get the pics, if you don't mind. I always expect the worst, and if something sounds too good to be true, then it usually is. Who keeps a Jazz bass locked away for the last 40 years? I'm hoping this is going to be one of those lucky finds! Fingers crossed. Cheers

Hi I'm looking for a Fender expert!! I have the chance to buy a Pre-CBS Jazz Bass with a serial number L36363 & original case. That's pretty much all I know. Can anyone tell me if that serial number seems correct for a Pre-CBS Jazz? Also, how much should I expect to pay? Also, how do I go about getting it authenticated? I assume an expert needs to go and inspect the bass with me to verify its authenticity? Thanks Ian

I used to run a Hartke 7000 head with a 4.5xl and 215xl cabs. Absolutely brill. Especially bi-amped. The 4.5 is quite cheap now. Check Thomann

I have been tempted by the 400+ in the past, but always been a bit nervous about lugging round an amp that weighs as much as the moon. I'd be keen to see what the replacement is gonna be. If I can get my new DB750 working reliably then I won't be looking, as it did sound lush (albeit for about 5 songs before it started making popping & spitting sounds!) I really like the weight of the sound from the DB750, and I guess that's the valve preamp doing its stuff? In the meantime, I hope someone here has tried one. The reviews I've found online (from US) all say its the best thing on the planet. Cheers

Has anyone tried one of these Mesa Titan V12 heads? There don't seem many Mesa users here! Quite a pricey head, but a great spec. If my new DB750 keeps on playing up, I'll be looking at alternatives, this being one of them. Cheers Ian

I'm having a similar problem. Can't find one to fit a MIM anywhere. The problem is that both the pickups on the MIM Jazzes are the same size, whereas on a American ones they are 91 & 94mm. So I'm going to make a template and do my own tortoishell plate!

I know Pedulla use an epoxy treatment to their F/L basses, but even that marks with roundwounds. Do you like the high gloss fretless look then?

I've just acquired a MIM Jazz, and I must have got a good 'un, coz it really plays nice. Pickups are a bit weak, but I'm going to try some Wizards in it, stick a decent scratchplate on and I reckon it'll be on par with the MIAs. Plus it should sound better with those p/ups. I'm not sure the american ones justify the extra cost. I've had a Jazz V QMT - probably the worst bass I've owned!

Definitely tort!! Pickups - I would go for a Wizard p/up, and get one of the overwound ones for more grunt.

I always use Rustins Plastic coating. You can spray coats at 15min intervals. And it buffs to a mirror. Plus it is so tough, its unbelievable. I normally thin the first 3 or 4 coats and brush on to let it soak in and seal the timber - particularly with spalt.

Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a scratchplate that WILL fit my MIM jazz. I'm not bothered about filling holes, and re-drilling. I just bought (and returned) one from ebay (CH Guitars) and it didn't even slide over the pickup!! A non-starter. Cheers Ian
