2.
If sex & funk had a love child this would be it!
It certainly would 😉
 3. Monday Night Bump, Now with added pics !!!!
 4. Bought a gorgeous MM Stingray from Nick. Great guy, great comms, stunning bass exactly as described. Highly recommended! Many thanks
 5. Hi all Due to yet another Stingray acquisition, my trusty Musicman SUB has got to go. It's a 2 eq 'Teal' U.S. model from October 2005. Standard spec i.e. rosewood neck, painted black neck etc. The mock ali scratch plate has however long since gone and replaced with a B/W/B plate. It looks great. Everything works as it should and it plays beautifully. Cosmetically it has few few dings, but the only one which was really noticeable i.e. down to bare wood was touched in by yours truly to a questionable standard (I still have the car touch up paints that I tried to mix if anyone would like to have another go at it). The neck also has some minor dings and scratches, but again not down to the bare wood. The damage is there but it doesn't shout at you, if you know what I mean. It's a great looking bass. 'Punky' I think another B.C.er called these. The bass will come with a Rok Sak gig bag that I have spare and as previously, I would prefer this bass to be collected from South Yorkshire as I would like to be happy that whoever is buying it is 100% happy with their purchase before parting with their hard earned. It's a great looking and great sounding bass and has been my 'go to' bass for a good while. However, this just isn't going to be played now. More pics available (upload limit reached) I do travel between South Yorkshire and Nottingham quite regularly.[s] I'll also be travelling down to Birmingham on Saturday afternoon (26[sup]th[/sup] April).[/s] ## Possible Trades Added ## Ideally I'm after a straight sale. However, I may be tempted by something old and interesting with lots of wood (e.g. Ibanez, Aria etc). I may also be in the market for a good looking 6 string for my daughter (PRS SE Custom 24, Tokai LP kind of thing but must have a pretty 'maple' top). Send me a pm if you have anything that might fit the bill. Cheers
 6.
Lovely bass at a fantastic price! I can't justify another Stingray, but have a free bump
I may struggle to justify another, but I'll give it a good go 😜
 7.
I remember reading on the EB forum that on a 2eq one is cut/boost and the other is cut only. They affect each other a bit too. Not sure now but I think the bass is cut/boost and treble is cut only, that would make the most sense anyway
Cheers for that. I think I'll get looking on the EB site then for clarification.
 8.
Centre is not neutral for a 2eq anyway
That'd explain it then. What's the thinking/reason for it being different then? (Sorry, I guess you don't work for ernie ball)
 9.
No the 2 EQ models never had them, as far as I'm aware - It wouldn't be too big a job to just replace the pots, but don't you just run everything full up on a Stingray anyway??
Yeah, you just might be right 😎 I've got a terrible feeling that this may be leading me down the road of GAS for another 3 band........
 10. Hi all This may be a dumb question but here goes anyway..... I've just purchased a 2005 3eq Stingray to go with my 2011 2eq and US SUB 2eq. Very nice it is too. My question is, did the pots on the 2eq Stingrays ever have the centre indent that the 3eq models have? If not, is it a big job to add them? Cheers
 11. I've not, never even tried one to be honest. I'm reading up on the DiMarzio Model J DP123 pick ups at the mo. They sound like they may fit the bill.
 12. I'm very interested in this thread as I'm currently playing in a band where we tune down for certain songs. To save faffing about detuning mid set, I swap basses. I use a MM stingray and (usually) a US MM SUB. However, I've recently acquired a MIM Jazz which plays great but, being passive is just not as loud as the MMs. So my question is, do I just turn my MM volume down to a level that matches my Jazz at full tilt, or are there any replacement Jazz pickups that will give it more umph. Cheers

 14. Bought a lovely MIM Fender Jazz from David. I chose to collect in person today and the item is exactly as described - lovely 😊 Great, friendly guy. Buy with confidence. Many thanks David
 15.
I love a happy ending Nice to see the old thing restored to its former glory, and even nicer to think it's going to get some use, too. Thanks for the donation, Dan - all worked out well.
I think the gratitude is all mine. The amp's sounding superb. Many thanks again.
 16.
Great story, and a superb amp, too. Trace gear isn't as fashionable as it once was, but I've auditioned just about every high -end bass amp on the market at one time or another and Trace Elliot stuff of various vintages is still a match for any of them, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. It's loud, clear and lets everybody hear the true sound of whatever bass you plug into it. I suppose I am a bit biased because the first really good amp I got was a Trace rig back in the 1980's when they were the amp every bass player aspired to , and I have used them pretty much ever since, but they have still never been bettered, in my opinion.
Totally agree. I'll never move away from Trace amps again. I'm playing through a lighter cab now, but as far as the amps are concerned, you can't beat them. I've read on BC and other sites about the 'marmite' TE sound. Well I for one love it and will continue to for many years to come! 😎
 17. To maintain transparency and to give anybody who was following this thread an update on the poorly SMX head I was generously offered……… The head is a 1993 AH250 SMX GP12 and after collecting and testing it, I sent it to my local repairer with a very long list of ailments. The main issues were found to be due to a completely knackered power stage. The first attempts at repair didn’t prove too successful and the amp had to be returned to the shop. But now, after a few repair attempts and 2 lengthy rehearsals I can now confirm it's fixed. The repairs came to £71, plus I treated the rack case to a new carpet covering and a new set of corner protectors which totalled a further £30. There's still a slight buzz but nothing too major. The amp sounds great and is extremely loud even for Trace watts. It’s considerably louder than my AH300-7 and that’s LOUD. As agreed with Tredders, I've this evening made a £50 donation (via PayPal) to BassChat. Many thanks again to Tredders for his kind offer to enable me to save this amp from the great gig in the sky for a few more years! Cheers
 18.
I have a US SUB and I love it to bits. It's strung with ernie ball extra slinkys and plays and sounds great. In fact, I found myself neglecting my MM stingray! Mine is Teal and had already had the dodgy original scratch plate replaced with a MM black one. I'd recommend these basses to anybody and I certainly wouldn't part with mine.
Correction: Super Slinkys not Extra :-/
 19.
Probably 95% of a stingray for 30 to 40% of the dosh, all things being equal.
That pretty much sums it up. The lack of contours etc on the body have never given the slightest issue.

 21.
I've got a GP12 SMX sitting in my music room. It works perfectly, but on occasion, after about 15 minutes it starts squealing (which unbelievably sounds even worse than my playing). Doesn't happen all the time, but it makes you quickly rush for the power switch when it does... I've just done a quick google, and it seems as though it's a fairly common solder problem on a smoothing cap, so easily sorted out if you can use a soldering iron (or a cheap fix by an amp tech). Exactly the same as the one just sold for £275: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222757-trace-elliot-gp12smx300-head/page__p__2354286__hl__trace%20elliot__fromsearch__1#entry2354286 Here's the deal - if you want to come and collect it, or arrange a courier (it's pretty heavy), you can have it FOC. Then, if you're happy with it, bung some money (maybe £50?) to the donations section of Bass Chat. Sound fair? (Just one condition - if it becomes surplus to requirements in the future, you donate it on to someone else). Let me know Mark.
😳 Wow. That sounds more than fair. That amp that sold was the one I just missed out on. You have an incoming pm
 22.
If you're bored and after some Trace gear, why not spend the time now looking for a good Chiropractor - save you time later when you'll need one (that TE gear is heavy- why not buy a Genz Benz???)
I steer clear of the cabs now days, but my current TE AH300-7 paired with a Barefaced Super 12 sounds awesome without breaking my back. I'd just like to try a GP12 SMX version too.
 23. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have a nosey on Facebook when I get home and keep an eye out for any gear from north of the border ;-)
 24.
I'll be the first to admit that can get on someone's case when things are bad but I don't mean cock-ups. They happen to everyone. Good nights and bad nights. That's live music, but what I can't stand is a "that'll do" attitude when it won't do. Members obviously trying learn a number in the car because they haven't bothered since messing up at last rehearsal. I'm no Marcus Miller but I know what sounds bad and that if you're being paid, you have a duty to the public and to your band mates to execute it all to the best of your ability. I have no problem with playing for fun with mates and it sounding crap if having a laugh is the only intention. Take someone's money, and it all changes for me.
+1. Absolutely agree. If you're going to do it, do it as properly as you can
