1. I like the Running Dog straps offered by Leathergraft. They are comfy, look good and are hard wearing. Here's their website: https://leathergraft.co.uk/shop/ols/categories/instrument-straps?page=1
2.
I see Westone Thunder influence.
100%... This homage to Westone has twin passive humbuckers and a lightweight contoured body with through neck. Complete with gold mirror scratchplate. My first Prosebass. Very cool basses, by a very cool luthier.
3. I voted uncool. Simply because I think it's bloody ugly!
4.
Looking good and causing a pang of jealousy too. I have just decided to return to short scale after remembering how nice my Epiphone Rivoli was combined with feeling totally uninspired by all things Fenderish. If I ever have any spare cash (not likely but I can dream.) I will definitely get Paul to make me something weird and wonderful.
These aren't "shorties" by Paul ( Prosebass / Rose Pure Tone) but do come in the weird and wonderful category.
5. Lovely bass! I know it is Grabber like, but, to me it looks slightly like Brian May's "Red Special". Nice selection of woods, it looks awesome. The additional cavity work is indicative of Paul's forward thinking; and believe me the build quality will be "spot-on". Nice one!
6. WHERE IS BASS? My answer to the question is ..... It can be a complex or a simple bassline but if it carries the rythym and melody equally well it makes for awesome listening! SIMPLES! As for picking on individual players, that's just silly banter for people with limited ability or scope! My alternative answer is ..........WHERE YOU LEFT IT!
7.
just great where can i buy one how you get a three jazz pickups in one? Lance love to hear how it sounds
Hi There, This bass started out as an experiment of Prosebass ( Paul Rose ) the single coils were wired to give a strange combination of choices. The neck pups were added later for the first owner of this bass. If you would like to know more, ask Paul. He's really a cool guy. Hope this is of help! Cheers Chris
8. The Nouveau Jazz ( by our very own Paul Rose ) is an eyecatching and unique design. ( my wife says it looks like a Roger Dean creation ) The ONLY control is volume, which is all that is needed in our opinion. The tone produced by the Nouveau Jazz is broad and bright, enough to satisfy on a number of levels. ( additional eq. etc. can be set at the amp/effects pedal if needed. ) I would use Happy Jack's observation of descibing the sound as a Jazz set at 80:20 ( bridge:neck ) as a fair likeness to the tone from the Nouveau Jazz. The single passive humbucker does an exceptional job. The lower horn hooks over your leg while seated, allowing a comfortable posture. The upper horn and contour allows a female player with an "ample chest" handle the Nouveau Jazz in comfort while sitting down. ( A feature Paul assures me was not deliberately built into this bass. ) The light weight of the Nouveau Jazz and the balance of the bass when standing make it extremely comfortable to play. Not a hint of neck-dive or any other indication of a lack of balance. All of the frets can be accessed with no obstructions and the neck and fret board are really well proportioned and easy to 'get around'. The woods and the finish used are second to none. Although some may think that an oiled finish on wood is not protective enough mechanically. In my opinion oiling and waxing are the best ways of showing the grain and properties of the surface of the wood. Some finishes take the "wow" factor out of the wood in my eyes, other finishes just enhance things way too far. NB: A quick buff with a dry microfibre cloth brings the polish up as good as new. Although minimalistic, the Nouveau Jazz has the looks and a sound that stand out. The Nouveau Jazz was bought as an early Christmas present for my wife. She is over the moon and so am I. Here's a piccy... Chris
9. Fellow Basschatters, Many thanks to those of you who have made a vote in this poll. Very many thanks to Alex for taking time to chip in!! I think I will let this topic run a bit because I would like to get more people participating, just to make the results truely representitive of the views of our members! MANY THANKS, AGAIN TO CURRENT PARTICIPANTS! TO EVERYONE ELSE.....PLEASE VOTE, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR VIEWS!! All the very best, Chris
10. Thanks for those who have already voted on this. Could I be cheeky and ask the rest of my fellow basschatters to get their tuppence worth in. I am finding this really interesting due to some of the comments about weight and balance. Many thanks, Chris
11. Hi Folks, Just thought I would ask if you guys had a view on the ideal weight of a bass and if this would influence you in the purchase of a new bass. Many thanks in advance! Chris
12. If only it were a 5 String. This one has as many pickups as a road sweeper! Have a BUMP on me!
13. If I were you, I would concentrate on the originals band. Bands who do covers can be fun, especially if you put an original twist on the songs you are covering, but at the end of the day you'll pick a set list which is almost identical to the next cover band's. That's just the way it is! Happy Jack's signature features an uncover band, maybe that's the way forward!
14. I have a Shine 5 string ( SBT 705 N ). ( Korean built ) The bridge pup sounds a bit weak but the overall playability and tone is ace! The string spacing suits me and the overall feel of the bass is really nice! Through neck through strung well put together! Overall a very nice bass for the money! Don't be put off by them being affordable, but I would recommend a visit to the shop and trying them out before buying! I bought mine from Ebay and was lucky to not be disappointed! Hope this helps! Chris edited cos me speeling's rubbish!
15. Sorry!! Couldn't decide. I like both!
16. I've got the heavier active baby brother of this at home. I like the chunkier neck! Hope you sell this one soon. and bump
17.
Gibson? Big name? Maybe for guitars. I wonder what Bassassin voted?
O.K. Gibson may not be a massive name in basses but they did design the Thunderbird and they have two more types ( The SG and the Grabber ). Oh yeah and the EB! That's 4 designs.... I shall go and flog myself now!
18.
+1 Have thought that very same thing myself recently....
Prosebass ( Paul ) does build to spec. and has some great design ideas. Give him a go for any style of bass. It's worth it, trust me! I own a P-bass lookalike and a complete one off based on the shape of a Westone thunder 1A with twin humbuckers. Both sound, feel and play like big name instruments and look great to boot! Paul is very approachable and his quotes are very reasonable for the amount of instrument you get. I will be going back to Paul when I have enough money to get my dream bass built.
19.
Labels are great, especially these.
NICE ONE!
20.
Agree totally - at the notts bass bash I saw an instrument that prosebass made and may well call him when I need new one
I can personally recommend Paul ( Prosebass ) if you're after a 5string Jazz he's got one almost ready to go! Lakland neck, custom jazz body, Bart pups and it plays and sounds like a dream! I own 2 of his basses and I can't say a bad word about either. Thanks for taking part, Chris
21. Hi there, I would like to ask all of my fellow basschatteers if they prefer well known labels to lesser known and other manufacturers, and why? Please indicate your own preference and please add a little bit about why you prefer to follow that route. ( I know this probably is old hat and I've probably duplicated a topic. But I'm relatively new to the forum and just would like to get to see what other peoples views are. ) Many thanks for taking part, in advance! Chris
22. Bought the Gold P bass from Paul (Prosebass). This is the second Bass I have bought from Paul. Both play extremely well and sound superb. Paul's a really great guy to deal with! And he makes excedingly good basses! I am really surprised that no-one has bought the Lakland necked 5 String or the Gazzumper ( If I'd had the money I would have been on Prosebass number 3 ( the Lakland! Maybe another time! ) The basses still available are very different from one another: The Lakland 5 string jazz bodied special has a really superb neck and devilishly low action. The tone is from quite bright, rounded and full to warm, mellow, deep and down right jazz. The Bartolini pickups really are good. IT'S ALMOST TOO EASY TO PLAY. (the neck is a peach!) Controls are TONE and VOLUME, there is a switch to select if you want both or just the bridge pickup selected. Simple but darned effective and elegant. The Gazzumper is an animal all on it's own. Great tonal range. Extremely comfortable to play sitting down ( that's the whole idea of it's unconventional shape ). The tone is quite punchy but resonant and deep at the same time. Overall sound can be from bright and punchy to full and quite rounded. The humbuckers do a cracking job and the coil taps just add and add to the range of sound you can get out of the bass. The body shape and horns are a SUPERB PIECE OF ERGONOMIC DESIGN. BOTH ARE GOOD LOOKING BEASTIES AS WELL! SHAMELESS PLUGGING I KNOW, BUT WHAT THE HELL, THIS GUY DESERVES THE PUBLICITY!
23.
still gutted they split up and that was nearly 10 years ago
Headlining at Download this year Mike Patton, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Bordin is the line up.......... so HAPPY DAYS!! As for underrated bass players: John Deacon (QUEEN ) Les Holroyd ( BJH ) Bill Gould ( FNM ) Chris Glenn (MSG / SAHB / Chris Glenn and The Outfit and others) Andy Fraser ( Free ) the list goes on and on....
24. Hello there, You could try these guys ( KGB music ) they do all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. Well worth a look! http://www.kgb-music.co.uk/index.htm Hope this is of use. Chris
