1.
Perfect colours for Christmas ................... ballpark price?
Saw a California Series PJ bass go for £475 on here recently so around the £450 mark would be great, if perhaps a little ambitious. Any pricing advice from someone who really knows their Fenders would be much appreciated!
2. With a heavy heart I'm forced to sell my first ever electric guitar, bought brand new before I started playing bass around 11 years ago. It's a Fat Strat model from the California Series which was only made for a couple of years in the late 90s, you can google it for more information. It's in great condition as it hasn't been played much over the last 4 or 5 years and kept mostly for sentimental value. There is a tiny ding on the back of the neck but couldn't get it to show up in the photos. The volume pot was replaced a long time ago with a black one, the original is long gone but new ones are not hard to find. Sadly, as I get my sh*t together to set off for a cruise gig in January, I need to sort out my finances. I'm willing to travel so pickup from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Dundee would be great, but also happy to ship at buyer's expense. Comes with original Fender hardcase and all the bits and pieces I got with it, including the tremolo bar. The case is covered in stickers but they can be removed if requested. I'm open to offers. Also up for trades for a 5 string bass. See photos below:
3. Lettuce are amazing, Adam Deitch is too good. Was this the gig with Stef Lawrence singing by any chance? I really wanted to go, she's a good friend of mine, but was working unfortunately. Looking forward to hearing the clips. Bubinga5 - great choices there. Never heard that live version of Kid Charlemagne before, brilliant playing. Forbidden Lover is a total classic too. *edit* meant to say, do you (or anyone else) have the live maceo record from the early-to-mid-90s (94ish?) featuring Kym Mazelle and Candy Dulfer, amongst others? It's well worth a listen if you haven't heard it. Kenwood Dunnard's got some great grooves on it.
4. Yeah man, I was gonna put that video up, its one of my favourite live RnB videos. The band is smokin, shame it wasn't the same one she brought to Glasgow a couple of years back.
5.
am sure using the term weedgie will get the replies pouring in where is strung out???????? the guy down in southside music is the the one in govanhill?,,,,,,I didnt realise he did repairs, also does that chap ever do any business?
I'd go for CC Music, always had good service and setups there.
6. I think he may have meant the original This video is brilliant, I love his playing on the live trio album. Unashamed Pino fanboy right here. The wee lick he plays a 1:03 is pure dynamite.
7. I think the point is that its so far behind the beat, it almost falls over itself, creating a really satisfying tension and release. But each to their own, eh. The rest of the album features Pino Palladino and Questlove on a few tunes, I'd definately recommend checking it out if you're not familiar with it. I know the whole modern RnB/neo-soul/whatever thing puts some people off, but there's some fantastic records out there. Raphael Saadiq's debut being a prime example. That Ramsey Lewis tune is cool, if a little over-indulgent for my tastes. I may have missed the point of this thread and looked too far away from the 70s funk it seems to be intended for. So here's something I hope makes up for it: The bass is pure filth.
8. Alfonzo Surrett - Gimme Your Love. Really nice feel, slightly reminiscent of Jacko's Off the Wall. Great production too, although it doesn't really come over on this crappy quality video. Heard it on Gilles Peterson's show a couple of years back and had to find it. If we're talking about playing behind the beat, then Raphael Saadiq's playing on this is just sublime. D'Angelo - Untitled (How does it feel) from Voodoo. Great tune, amazing voice. Need to say, I can't stop listening to that Mary Jane Girls track. Lovely stuff. Keni Burke is excellent too.
9.
Castlecases, never been used flightcase for precision bass. Looking to trade it for a flightcase for an ampeg svt classic. http://shop.castlecases.co.uk/images/PrecisionBass_400.JPG cheers tom
PM'd
10.
I saw Edgar Meyer in Glasgow about a year or two ago. Absolutely astonishing- he can do things I didn't think were possible on DB, and gets such a massive sound from his incredibly small bass.
I was at this same gig, it was incredible.
11. Got a MarkBass 2x10 that I'd potentially like to swap with a 4x10 of some kind. It's an excellent cab, and has served me well since I bought it from a friend earlier this year. It's the 4ohm version and handles up to 400w. As I'm sure everyone knows, this cab sounds fantastic and I'd be sad to let it go. However, as the function band I play in sometimes plays larger venues, I have trouble getting as much bass response as I'd like (a lot). I haven't had it past halfway when used with my LMII, as I don't want to potentially hump the speakers. Only on a couple of occasions when I feel it really suffers has the master been to 1 o'clock. I'm looking for a good quality 4x10 such as an Ampeg, Aguilar, Berg, Schroeder, Markbass or even Ashdown. Would definately be up for a trade + cash if necessary. Also, I've been looking at using two 1x12 cabs (say, Aguilar DB112s) so if anyone is looking to move theirs on, please give me a shout. The cab isn't at home at the moment but I will put up photos later this week when it's here.
12. Due to a recent purchase of a double bass my funds have taken a dramatic downturn, therefore I need to shift some pedals. EHX Russian Big Muff - £35 - missing battery cover - sold! Boss Bass Overdrive (ODB3) - £30 - sold! Boss Digital Delay (DD6) - £70 - sold! EHX Micro Q Tron - £35 - sold! EHX Octave Multiplexer (new version) - £45 - sold! These pedals have never been gigged by me, only the DD6 has had light use in the studio. I'd love to be able to keep them, but need to pay the rent. Prices are exclusive of postage, I imagine it'd be about a fiver though. Or pickup free in Glasgow. Photos available on request.
13. Miroslav Vitous is worth a look too. His playing on Chick's Now He Sings, Now He Sobs is incredible, especially for being so young at the time. His solo albums are very interesting too. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Ron Carter, definately check out his work with Miles' 60s quintet. I love the 1964 concert record. Edgar Meyer is a fantastic player. And Charlie Mingus is an obvious starting point. +1 for Ray Brown, Dave Holland and basically everyone else mentioned so far.
14. This was exactly what I was looking for last year before I figured I'd never find one and got the sunburst model instead. Gutted! Good luck with the sale, if I had any money I'd have it straight away.
15. I have a spare ticket for the mighty Bruce Springsteen in Hyde Park this Sunday if anyone needs one. Looking for face value (£45) ono. He's supported by a number of bands including Dave Matthews Band and Gaslight Anthem. Should be a great show, but my mate bailed out at the last minute. Cheers.
16. Hey. Here are the photos you asked for. I just remembered the the cab is still at a bandmates flat, we left it there after a recent gig, so I've only got photos of the head so far. Can get the cab if you're interested, its pretty much exactly the same as this guy --> http://www.guitarshop.net/laneyr410.htm Here's the head anyway. and a small nick in the top of the head Say £200 for the lot? Or £100 each? Only thing is, I'm up in Glasgow so we'd have to work out some sort of postage arrangement. I have a friend from Manchester who may be heading home over the next few weeks, so that may be an option too if I can persuade her to take it in her car. Joe
17.
I may throw in a multi voltage, multi way mains power supply with the compressor if anyone is interested?
PM'd
18. Hey. I have an old Laney R4H head (which seems to have been replaced by the RB-8) and R410 cabinet (which is now the RB-410) if you're interested. Both still in great working order, but the cab has taken a bit of a beating over years of gigging. Recently upgraded head to LMII so the R4H is just sitting in my flat doing nothing. Can post pics if you like, just drop me a PM or reply here. Cheers Joe
19.
Just dealt with John great communication, went as smooth as a babies bottom.
This was the most recent john_the_bass feedback thread I could find. Just bought a Boss TU2 from this chap and he was a pleasure to deal with. Speedy and efficient delivery. Thanks buddy!
20. Just bought a Little Mark II on Sunday and received it about 20 minutes ago. Great guy to deal with, honest and super fast service. Thanks man!
