  1. โ€œand incorporates features never before found in an electric bass guitar.โ€ Like...what? Am I missing something?
  2. Unfortunately the post-Brexit situation (=extra VAT) puts this off limits for me but as an owner of a couple of NS-5XLS I can honestly say basses don't get better than this. Good luck with the sale! Would love to see some pics, too ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. It sounds different, but if that's worth enough to get another bass is another question. The idea with the pink one was that since it is a preLX Euro with maple wings I wanted to get the classic PJ sound Spector is known for in a 5 string version without going the custom USA way. It ended up sounding quite similar really and now that I have a 35" Euro Pl with maple wings and is tuned to BEAD I have a direct comparison. The pink sounds different than my other Euro with TW's and my NS-5XL with DC's. So for me its great having this. One thing to look for when buying 40 sized P is that one should get the 40P5, not the 40P as the magnet bars are placed differently (the 40P is split in the middle and aimed for narrow spaced 6 string basses) And yes, @krispn they are reversed.
  4. This one I have has a 40PX at the neck position and a 40JX at the bridge. (Originally it cam with the stock 40DCs and I put in the new pickups)) I have a 40DC that I'm contemplating swapping with the J as that would have a more balanced output with the P. It is not a big issue but I had to lower the P considerably and raise the J so they have equal output.
  5. I don't have a vast collection and don't want to sell any of them for the time being. But I had to, these would be the ones I'd hold on to. 1. Spector NS-5XL buckey burl top, walnut back, maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard, EMG40DCX pickups with haz lab preamp. Thi is the best bass I ever had, it records so well and has that extra in it that makes me pick it up over my others most of the time. I don't gig it as I don't want to risk it being stolen, damaged etc 2. Spector Euro5XL heavily modded and refinished. Not much to say, this plays and sounds great, the reason for keeping is sentimental, I have recorded some important music with it and played a lot of gigs. 3. Spector Pre-LX Euro 5 with East preamp, P/J pickups in soapbar housing, refinished, shaved neck. Same as the purple above, got a lot of gigs with it worth a lot more for me I could ever got on the 2nd hand market for it. And play this to this day eventhough it is a backup bass for my other Spector I play live now.
  6. When was the other time I did so?
  7. About twelve years ago I have sold my two main basses at the time, a Yamaha TRB-6II and a Spector Euro5, both had 35" scale asI thought that I was done with the 35" and would stuck to my 34" Ibanez SR3006. After a few years being Spectorless I have returned to the brand in '14 with a Euro 5 and couldn't really understand what had I been thinking back in '08 as it was comfortable and great playing bass (still is). I do not have very big hands and long fingers so I understand if some feel that there are bigger reaches on the money end with 34" vs 35" but I think that the NS design is really helpful in other ways (as @Al Krow poited out) For me the smaller body and the position of the bass ((if you see my profil pic, that is the way I like my bass to be positioned) is equally if not more important than the scale lenght and I think there are a couple of factors that contribute to the overall playing comfort.
  8. No, that is NOT an error, they truly have 34" scale, a rare thing for a 5 string Spector in the current line (and a nod to the late '80s 34" NS-5's)
  9. I think that is a typo in the description. For what I know the 5 string Classics are JJ only, no other configuration for this specification
  10. Thank you @ead and @Eldon Tyrell for giving it some time. I myself am not a fan of the growls, also I agree the mix could use more bass but that was out of my control. We share the same rehearsal room and the drummer, too ๐Ÿ™‚ so it was natural to give them a hand when they wanted to go forward with the recordings.
  11. yes! I knew when I saw this before even reading the text ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. I have been asked to play on the EP of a band consisting a few friends, a classic session "job". I have used my Spector NS-5XL for the recording. Thought to share with you here (prog metal content with female vocals) Would be awesome if you would give it a spin. Thanks!
  13. It is like this has been for a while for Ibanez, they churn out a couple of super expensive basses and either call them some versions of their Prestige lines or some signature ones like the top end Willis, Veasley or Nitti models, all in an attempt to increase the perceived value of the brand by offering these at high prices almost nobody buys at but giving leverage for their entry to mid models which they are making most of their business. I own a bunch of Japaneese Prestige SR's and the brand always stays on my radar with models I want to own/ try so all the above is simply my observation, not a praise /critique.
  14. Yeah, more is more ๐Ÿ™‚
  15. Nahh, what's that straigt nut, fanned first (zero fret?) thing?
  16. That worked for me for a while but now anytime I think of selling any of my Spectors that I'm not using as much as the others I'm quickly coming to a conlusion that no way, I should keep it. So nowadays I'm buying basses that I'm either interested in trying or they are Spectors and I buy them for being keepers. My Spector collection is by no means big, seven to be precise but it is a well rounded up gang so my Spector GAS is limited (but unfortunately quite money demanding)
  17. I like the Dimension 5, not sure about the pricing or if I would get one but sounds cool and looks nice (apart from the string tree)
  18. Not exactly this model but I had two FGN neo classic 5 string jazz and the quality of them was flawless. I would recommend FGN without any doubt, the workmanship is impeccable and both of them sounded great, too. Actually the model you have linked is pretty much the same as the neo classic apart from the pickguard shape
  19. How many is that so many? I think I could count about 10-12 basses in this video with the ones hanging one the wall plus a few that is on the left side rack. Mind you I've never seen any other videos of his nor am I familiar with him so maybe I'm missing something. But anyway, you just need the right number of Spectors, right? ๐Ÿ™‚
  20. This looks like something that just escaped from Aliexpress ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. Cool find! I think they have nailed the Dimension pretty well, the headstock is nice (though that string tree is strange) Would have loved if the pickups are slanted a bit differently ( more to the direction of the bridge at the lower strings)
  22. Most likely referring to FujiGen Gakki, the Matsumoto based guitar manufacturer. Love the TRB II series btw.
  23. Yes, both the 4 and 5 string versions are weight relived.
  24. Congrats to this wonderful piece of subtle beauty. I am a longtime Spector player and for me the NS design is the best out there coupled with one of the most useable sounds a bass can have. (Yes, Iโ€™m a fanboy ๐Ÿ˜€) This classic lineup is really tempting but I really should not buy yet another Spector. Anyway, enjoy your new bass!
