Easy. Just use a massive smartphone-style screen for a grille, with an accelerometer in the cab to detect its orientation. Then the logo automatically flips to be the right way up on the screen-grille. Can't believe you didn't think of it yourself.
Why would you want to do that?
5-string with flats and an 18V circuit. Caused nausea and a sensation of cranial crushing through the Vintage.
All the cabs have serial numbers. Whether they're actually on the cabs is a different matter! Yours is V1.
I was going to say I'd Tippex it on the back... but I'm actually so proud of being V1 that I might just get a big stencil set and a spray-can and do it huge across the grille-cloth.
200 watts - discontinued - replaced by 250 watts model
Ah, could you mean the HA2000? (replaced by the 2500) If so... sorry, don't know anything. I was only drawn to this thread by the tantalising promise of a 2000W LH-series amp!

They do an LH2000 now!? It's not on their website...

Anybody play chords on the bass....
Here's great double-stop tune:
Awesome groove, and I've always heard it as double-stops. Then I stumbled across this transcription by Lucas Pickford, which notates it as triple-stops. That threw me somewhat -- I just can't hear the minor sevenths in the recording, but maybe I've got sh*tty ears. -
Try this easy little sequence of 3 note chords in C major modulating to A major:
Tabbed it for you. I'm not a huge fan of tab, but I find this 100,000 times easier to read quickly:
Dm7 G7 Cmaj7 Fmaj7 Bm7 E7 A --17-- --16-- --16-- --14-- --14-- --13-- --14-- --15-- --15-- --14-- --14-- --12-- --12-- --11-- --17-- ------ --15-- ------ --14-- ------ -0/12- ------ --15-- ------ --13-- ------ --12-- ------
Unfortunately there's no sensible (quickly readable) way of imparting fingerings, but I found your suggestions were exactly what I naturally fell into anyway. A nice little Autumn Leaves progression... until that A major! -
Lots of Eminence guitar drivers - about twenty different models. Hence no idea where to start!
I remember my guitarist (before settling on the Tonker, which is an absolute brute, and now available in a Lite neo version) was very tempted by the Swamp Thang. They're both supposed to be great for the stonery/doomy/brutally-heavy end of things, which seems to be the way you'd have to go with these cabs if the above responses are anything to go by.

Like I said over here, I haven't experienced the phenomenon in Gary Willis' pictures. In my extremely scientific test (sample size: 2 ), I didn't find anything like that drift. I found that if I "set it like this for the 12th fret": then I "might have to play like this in the first few frets": Exactly the same everywhere. And when I used to set up like this for the 12th fret: I played like this all over the neck, and was bang in tune: My SR5's a bit more accurate beyond the 12th than my VMJ, but it's much of a muchness. I don't understand how Gary Willis is getting his results. We need more tests, people!
The first time I got to play Newcastle City Hall. Another 'WTF?' moment... and the novelty still doesn't wear off when I play there.
Agreed, it's an awesome place to perform (once accidentally drank the Mayor's rider there), but don't try singing a cappella there. There's no reverb. You can't hear what the people on the other side of the stage are singing. Same with the Newcastle Opera House or whatever it's called these days.

Singing with my old choir in the official opening concert for the Sage Gateshead. I hadn't really heard much about what was going to happen in terms of running order. I thought it was just: sing a few pieces, listen to the orchestra, some carols (it was Christmas) and naff off. Concert starts. Audience of 1700, Northern Sinfonia playing, all good... then Martin Carthy walks onstage for a few numbers. f*** me! Then Eliza Carthy shambles on, they do a few more... then Norma Waterson comes on with the rest of the band. And I'm onstage with Waterson:Carthy. Yikes. Awesome.
It's only valve amps you need to worry about, solid state heads are fine, but the fact not everyone knows this is another good reason I wouldn't be happy lending out my head as backline
I thought it wasn't quite that straightforward a distinction. I'm sure I've heard of valve heads with a dummy load that means they can survive being switched on unloaded. And I'm sure I've heard of SS heads that can die without loads. Or they at least cry a bit and wet themselves or something.
Once we played a gig where we were headlining, and one of the support bands announced that they hadn't brought amps. The bassist had even somehow forgotten his bass! In a fit of generosity I lent him my US Jazz, but that's another story. Our guitarist said they could not use his valve combo, as was his right. They did anyway, behind his back, and tried turning it on with no cab connected - one dead amp. Idiots like that are why I dont think heads are an acceptable part of backline.
Fair enough. I've never had a head that couldn't cope with having no cab connected. It's probably a good thing -- I'd have killed a fair few of my own by now if I had.
-
On the originals circuit backline is generally considered to be drumkit and cabs, but NEVER amps and drum breakables unless it's been agreed beforehand.
I'd much rather lend out my head than my cab. Cabs are surely much more breakable? Mind you, if the person borrowing doesn't understand impedance, then it could be bye-bye head too...

Talking of support, the Birmingham and London shows have OM supporting (and OM are also at ATP). Saw them a few years back, and they were superb. Epic stoner bass & drums 2-piece. At the time it was the rhythm section from Sleep, but Chris Hakius left last year. Haven't heard anything with the new drummer, but if you like your riffs heavy and simple, I'm sure they're still awesome.

OK, it's a pretty niche thing here, but for those of you who are interested and don't yet know, here's the heads-up: SUNN O))) are touring in the UK in December. Dec 6, 2009 Stereo Glasgow, UK Dec 7, 2009 The Sage Newcastle (Gateshead), UK Dec 8, 2009 Islington Mill Manchester, UK Dec 9, 2009 Trinity Church Bristol, UK Dec 10, 2009 Asylum Birmingham, UK Dec 12, 2009 ATP Minehead, UK Dec 13, 2009 ATP Minehead, UK Dec 14, 2009 Koko London, UK For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the spiel from The Sage website:
SUNN O))) is a drone metal outfit from Los Angeles, which explores the power of electric amplified sound, venturing into drone, psychedelic and experimental minimalism/maximalist as well as fusions with such underground metal cultures as black, death and doom metal. Exploring life and death defined through the heaviest guitar sounds possible, the band works collaboratively with experimental composers and sound artists. NB This concert will be extraordinarily LOUD.
A band for amp fetishists: I've got my ticket booked for the Gateshead date. Should be nicely visceral. Earplugs, anyone?

Huh. Looks like I'm in the minority here. I don't know a single guitarist with a Fender combo. The guitarists I know are as obsessed as any bassist with finding the right tone. The guy I do most of my playing with has spent years going through various combinations of heads (or pre/power amps) and cabs. After months of research on frequency response, he ended up putting Eminence Tonkers in an old Sound City 4x12 cab, which works nicely with an old Carlsbro bass head. He just hates how heavy it is. Another guitarist we gig with quite a lot spent 4 or 5 months waiting for an Avatar 2x12 bass cab to arrive from the US (via Holland). He loves it, because it's brutally "full"-sounding and relatively light. I seem to have a rare view of guitarists: IME, they're highly creative, tone-obsessed, "thinking" musicians. I've never met a "guitard".

Does anyone sing or hum the bassline they are playing?
BottomEndian replied to Paul S's topic in General Discussion
I do it when I'm drumming. Trouble is, my mouth's a much better drummer than my hands. -
A good idea?
Yes.
a lightweight Marshall 4x12" replacement that looks as imposing but has better dispersion and weighs very little
This is the holy grail. That said, like I said in my initial reaction to the Vintage, it sounded incredible for tuned-down, fuzzed-up riffage on guitar. Perfectly voiced for the stoner-doom crowd. If my guitarist wasn't a poor student (again), he'd have a Vintage like a shot. If there was a 4x12... well, he might starve himself for 6 months to get one.

How do you practise in order to play jazz?
I would also recommend learning 'I Got Rhythm' changes and form. It helps in movement, and does pop up from time to time in different disguises, The 'Flintstones Theme' being one you would know.
Now that I'd never noticed. Very cool.
